Japanese Celestia VGM Project - Where is it now? by Mouser X at 7:39 PM EDT on May 12, 2011
For some reason, the file system on my MP3 player is no longer reliable (I have encountered probably around 50 files which no longer match their original source files/aren't accessible at all), so I'm attempting to rebuild the directory structure (and the files in those directories) of my MP3 player. While doing so, I discovered that one of the "albums" I have is incomplete. I can't find the originals anywhere on my hard drives, and when I Google for it, everything leads me back to the site they were originally hosted on, which is no longer online (it's from 2005).
The collection I'm looking for is the Japanese "Celestia Project". It was a large collaboration which resulted in lots of video game music remixes. Based on my directory structure, and some of the forums that talked about it, the original file names of the archives were "cele01_day1.zip" and "cele01_day2.zip". Can anyone help me find the original collections? I know I used to have them, and it's reasonably safe to assume I still do, but I can't find it anywhere. The one I'm looking for is, I think, in a directory (or archive?) called "saki-tdb" (based on my directory structure. However, all the files, and directories, were created on a system which didn't have support for Japanese characters, so some of the file names came out wrong, or needed to be altered to be extracted at all).
Anyway, if anyone can help me find these (the Celestia Project as a whole would be nice), I'd really appreciate it. Any suggestions on where else I should ask, in addition to here? Thanks in advance. Mouser X over.
While I can't really be of any help here (I'd never heard of Celestia until now), in a related vein, does anyone have any info on what became of the Ultima Eternity competition from 2000 or so?
HCS, you are, by far, beyond awesome! I would have checked the internet archive (it occurred to me at least once) but I didn't think they would have created a backup of the ZIP files, so I didn't bother. Thanks for finding that for me! Since it's all in Japanese, and fairly ugly to look at (from an English reading/speaking perspective), I was able to find a forum thread where someone translated the tracks/titles/file names, and provided a track order for them. On my MP3 player, I attempted to match their track order as near as I could, but I never bothered renaming the files. For those interested, the forum thread is here.
HCS, thanks again. I know your ego is extremely inflated and deformed ( :P ), and I should avoid feeding it anymore than it already is, but I think you deserve it. HCS is, as always, awesome, and the best!
Also, I already have (still have?) the wallpapers one. I don't think I got that when the set was originally released, but later, when I found the translation/ordering I linked above. For some reason, they mistakingly linked to the wallpapers, instead of the day1 album. I never actually looked through it until yesterday, or the day before though.... Some of them aren't too bad, and others, it's pretty obvious their artistic skill is not in the graphics area... Still, nice to have the "entire" set. Thanks again. Mouser X over and.
It really is impressive that they grabbed every 200 MB zip they ran across. Thanks for the ego stroking, if only it was this easy to be awesome all the time.
