Disappearing from Tracker? by logan28469 at 7:09 PM EDT on August 17, 2011
Why are there 2 different versions of Link's Crossbow Training?
Link's Crossbow Training (2007)(Nintendo)[WII][PCM - Sequenced][AST] and Link's Crossbow Training (2007)(Nintendo)[WII][Nintendo DSP - PCM][AST - BNS]

I don't know which one's better or what the differences are because I can't find the files. Only one is on the tracker, and I can't download anything yet because my ratio will drop to 0 as I've not succeeded at seeding anything yet. Also, I can't find Super Mario Galaxy 2 even on the tracker. It seems as if the files originally were, though. Why did they just disappear?

I'm not sure why SMG2 disappeared, I still have a .torrent for it but it isn't on the tracker anymore. I've reupped it.

The main difference between those is the [PCM - Sequenced] one also contains all the sound banks. They aren't very useful, though. The [Nintendo DSP - PCM] one contains all the streams, including the banner sound. You can find that one in the "Streams 2009-10-19" torrent.

Okay cool. Thank you very much.

Here's the problem:

On our tracker, it's set up to delete any torrent that's been dead for 30 days.
by hcs at 3:44 PM EDT on August 19, 2011
Oh? That kind of sucks.
by Hotcakes at 10:04 PM EDT on August 19, 2011
I can understand hiding them due to inactivity, but deleting them is a bit silly I think.

Just when my ISP fails... Now I don't know how I'll seed a month (unless I somehow can hide my laptop at my friend's house ...for a month). Hopefully people keep SMG 2 from dying so that it isn't gone by the time I get my chance. Just 28.5 days to go
by logan28469 at 2:17 AM EDT on August 23, 2011
Does it say what my total seeding time is anywhere? And if I seed multiple torrents at a time, do I reach the one month seeding time faster, or is that not a combined total and would mean that it doesn't matter how many torrents I seed? Also, my total time spent uploading to peers has only been a few minutes, even though I've got a couple of days at least from seeding.

About seeding - if this tracker uses ratio system: you will only increase your ratio if you have some other people downloading from you any part of that VGM torrent. To be more precise: if you downloaded some rip, but nobody else downloads it (you must have connected peers, who also want that specific rip), your ratio will be the same... The point is: it's worthless if you're seeding something that nobody else downloads for great time period. So, if your current concern is about increasing your ratio, you must first download something which is popular at the moment, so other peers will download those parts from you.
There are some trackers that use time system, which is in my opinion the best-you download something, and seed it (of course it can be multiple things at the same time) and no matter if someone downloads the parts from you or doesn't, your "time points" will increase. And what are they for? They are spent when you download something else, and when you seed, they are comin' again... So that system is ratio-free. Some Russian trackers use it, and I've been downloading bunch of stuff, without worrying about my ratio. F*cking legendary system!

But do I get more"time points" when seeding multiple files? And does it say my seeding time anywhere?
by cooljacker at 2:55 AM EDT on August 24, 2011
All that was just my attempt to explain different systems. And I don't have access to VGM tracker, never asked for it because my upload speed sucks. I think this tracker uses only ratio system, so there are no time points at all. Again, if it's a ratio-only system you could seed for days something that nobody else downloads and your ratio will not increase at all, no matter how much time you seed it, unfortunately...

This tracker system is way too strict. What's the point of ripping all this stuff if people can't get at the results? Seems totally self defeating to spend so much time ripping when so few people can get to the files.

Well the ratio can be difficult, but is it that hard to leave a torrent running for 30 days? Most rips average about 300mb, so space shouldn't be an issue.

The rules were put in place because there were a lot of hit and runs. Just look at the history of most torrents. What's the point of ripping if no one helps share after they leech it?

The reality is most of us enjoy the ripping no matter what. It would be nice if people seeded for longer than a day or two. At least of couple of weeks.

But really, only gross offenders are gonna be deleted. If you make any effort at giving back what you've taken, you probably won't get deleted.

I, for one, still stand by my previous assertions that torrenting is simply ineffective in such leech oriented systems.
DDL would be faster and less of a pain for uploaders.

I'm with arbingordon on this. I hate torrents for all the same reasons, plus the fact that many files can lose popularity very quickly (&, therefore, they lose seeds); a good reason to delete torrents that haven't been touched for a month.

I had to download a 300 MB ISO file once; I opened my torrent port in my firewall, forwarded it through my modem & it still took me 72 hours to download the file (the seed-leech ratio dropped from 16:3 to 2:3 during my download). If that same file were uploaded on a host like RapidShare (or even someone's Dropbox account,) downloading would have taken me 15-30 minutes.

The technology behind Bit Torrent is too heavily reliant on people being team players (which makes it volatile); the fact is that people just want to download files & leave (especially if it takes them over 8 hours to download 300 MB through high-speed cable). They tend to either not care about seeding, or they just get fed up from the whole process.

I'm mostly concerned with when the torrents disappear. The thing I dislike about the direct download stuff is those files disappearing, ideally that wouldn't be an issue with our tracker.
by cooljacker at 2:02 PM EDT on August 26, 2011
The problem with direct downloads disappearing can be solved...

By creating a free account at the file hosting site, and when uploading files, avoiding suggestive names. (And of course always upload stuff to said account)

I have a free account at Mediafire I made around 4 years ago. And when I upload God of War 3 soundtrack, I won't name the file "God_of_War_III_Official_Soundtrack.rar", no, I don't want to be so obvious to MF mods... I name it something short which makes perfect sense to me (and in my native language), and for all this time, I never had a deleted file.

I don't like to be reliant on that kind of thing.
But hey, I don't upload most of these rips, so I don't have any say in where they go.
by logan28469 at 2:14 AM EDT on August 27, 2011
It just get hard to keep track of my upload time when I'm now using my laptop at friends' houses 'cause my internet stopped working. I think there should be a big new torrent that has not just new files, but many of the old ones as well, as this could cause a higher popularity of that torrent, if the files are wanted again.
If anyone could upload Super Mario Galaxy(2007)(Nintendo)[Wii][PCM][AST].zip (the 847MB one),
Link's Crossbow Training(2007)(Nintendo)[Wii][Nintendo DSP - PCM][AST - BNS].zip, or especially The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess(2006)(Nintendo)[Wii][Nintendo AFC - Nintendo DSP][AST - BNS].zip to a file-hosting site, it would be more appreciated than anything else in the world
