could anybody name some average/good/insane techno VSTi's?

I don't write techno but a really versatile synth vsti I enjoy is FMMF. You might find it useful.

Go to http://www.kvraudio.com/ and check out their plugin database.

It has hundreds of vsti's listed, both commercial and freeware.
