N64 soundtool missing samples by Dutchie at 6:14 PM EST on December 24, 2011
i think alot of people have noticed that N64 sound tool does not properly extract some instrument files

while lookin through the mario kart 64 instruments, i noticed it did play or extract many drum samples and 1 bass instrument

i think i know why this happens, for some reason there are multiple samples in that adress, i found a pattern in the intrument tab in the MK64 rom, every ''instrument'' represents a different song, the 0000 intrument contains all the sound effect and intrument 0001 contains the instruments used for the intro sequence, now the intro sequence is a nice example

the bass used in this song probebly has 2 samples mapped at different sections of the octaves

at the end of the intro song, the bass goes really deep

i rebuild the song and found out that it was NOT possible with the sample i ripped from rainbow road [wich uses the same bass]

but the same goes for the drums, various samples are mapped to different notes, all those samples [bass drum, snare drum, open hi hat, closed hi hat, bongo's, bells, and those monkey sounds] are at one single adress, maybe the file at that adress is not a wav file, maybe it is some compressed thing that has to be extracted before it can be ripped.

and so far, i cannot finish the mario kart 64 rebuild :(

MORE FILES!!

Hey Dutch,

You seem to be fond of this MOGG format, but I have no way of playing it. Is there a Winamp plug-in that can do so?
by Dutchie at 6:32 PM EST on December 25, 2011
Hey Elven

you play MOGG in audacity [free audio edit software], after importing, merge the 1st and 2nd to a stereo track, do te same with 3d/4th and 5th/6th, togheter they form a song split into 3 layers [drums, bass and lead]

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu............
Why does MediaFire have to be down RIGHT when I actually notice this thread?
Wait.... http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/mediafire.com

They say it's up, so it's up... just being VERY slow? Slow enough to say that the server can't be found, etc?

Oh NOW they say it's maintenance. Well that's OK. At least we know what's going on. Wait, what the heck? Why is it when you keep refreshing the scheduled time seems to alternate between pm and am every so often? Also 0%? Not to mention, WHAT FREAKING DATE? I hate it when sites say a time, without a date.

@hcs, I'm not -- or at least I wasn't.
my fault by SubDrag at 2:48 AM EST on December 29, 2011
I was aware of this, but I can't figure out how to parse it in Mario Kart. It does work fine in Mario 64 and I ripped it for that.
Was able to rip some by SubDrag at 3:01 AM EST on December 29, 2011
OK I was able to rip some of percussion for Kart. Not all of it. Maybe it will help.

EDIT: Also output the full three facets of the sound (not just the center one). They do sound different so not sure how they work honestly. They're all similar though in each grouping.

Mario Kart Sound Rip Fuller

I did update n64 sound tool if you click rip button to also rip these. Should work for Waverace, Mario 64, and Mario Kart 64.

screw luigi, Subdrag you're the best :D

so about the the ''prev'' and ''sec'' i suppose ''prev'' means 1 octave lower? and ''sec'' 1 octave higher?

is there possibly any way you can also rip the root key data? this will help alot O_o
by SubDrag at 11:53 AM EST on December 29, 2011
I can't find anything that looks like a root key anywhere. I'm not quite sure what Prev/PrevSec mean, the order is though in-file:
1) Prev
2) Normal
3) PrevSec

They're in triplicate so must be related, perhaps as you said.

It looks like root key is now supported, but it's a floating point. 1.0 = 78, 38 = .5 and 0 = 0.0, I think. Maybe someone can test. I support importing the three sounds now.

where can i download the updated version?

also, the ''rip all banks'' function makes the program crash [at least, in the super mario 64 rom it does]
Same site by SubDrag at 10:45 PM EST on March 4, 2012
Same location. I fixed the rip all banks too. Was only a couple types, like Mario/EAD.
