I think the sweep at the beginning of the Final Battle from TTYD is from Komputer Inside, from the "Throb Sweeps" samples. In the demo on the AMG website, the similarity is a lot more apparent, because I imagine they distorted it and placed a lot of reverb on it for the TTYD one.

Some of the other samples feel familiar, for example I think I might've heard a sound from Macho Grubba's theme, but in reality all of it is pretty standard analog stuff, so I can imagine a lot would slip by.

You posted something a little while ago asking about the Professor Sycamore accordion's origin from XY and some stuff from ORAS, and some other songs. Here's what I have so far.

-Sycamore accordion is Best Service ETHNO WORLD. Dallape accordion under key instruments.

-Trick room organ is probably EWQL Goliath.

Looking for the organ from the May encounter, it's done by Hideaki Kuroda and he has a list of his plugins here so if you find anything please update! The organ definitely sounds familiar.

He also has some hardware synths, including an SC88Pro.
Spectrasonics and Good Feel by icecream at 11:55 AM EDT on July 28, 2016
How much does Good Feel use Spectrasonics sounds in their music? There are a lot of its sounds that they used for Kirby's Epic Yarn and Yoshi's Woolly World documented here, and I think I found another one in Omnisphere:
Game: Kirby's Epic Yarn
Track: Tube Town (which uses Anticipation also from Omnisphere, and 72 Liquid Frame Combo from Stylus RMX)
Preset: Chinese Resologue Lead 1
Timestamp: ~1:40-~2:04

I'm not sure it's even used that often to be honest. Then again, there are so many sounds in Omnisphere it's possible I haven't even heard all of them yet. I'm curious as to where the synths used in Yoshi's Woolly World's castle theme comes from, but for all I know they could be from somewhere else.

Speaking of Kirby, I somewhat recently listened to a demo of Zero-G: Chemical Synths. I could be wrong but I may have heard the lead synth used in Grand Doomer's battle theme from Kirby's Return to Dream Land in there.

On an unrelated note, Super Mario 64 uses "BANJO D3" from AKAI Sound Library Vol.2 in "Slider". Also, the organ sounds like it's sourced from the Korg M1, but without the "wobbliness" from the original patch.

Sample: Big Band Brass

Keyboard: Yamaha DGX-650 (not XGlite)

Game: Star Fox 64 3D

I'm not exactly sure this is the exact sample that was used, but I recognized it yesterday when I played this game (I own the keyboard this sample came from), so I added it to this thread.

What keyboard is the one you own with that sample?

Also, I went to Guitar Center and heard Mario 3D samples on a Roland Juno DS88 (Dig-n-Duke, Detuned Square) and it probably has Fantom hardware inside.
I wonder where the synth sounds in Super Bomberman 2-5 are from? I hear some analog sounds.

Yamaha DGX-650, it's just an ordinary digital piano from 2008.
Not XGlite by G-Boy at 3:30 PM EDT on July 31, 2016
Sorry, I got it wrong. It's not XGlite, it's the main voices in the Yamaha DGX-650 keyboard.

I knew it was a main voice because I also have a Yamaha keyboard with the same sound, but it is a PSR-e443, but it could be another Yamaha keyboard with the same sound.

What synth was used in Mt Chimney in ORAS for the "bowww bow bow bow bowww" sound in the intro?

@Benjamin: I have a name on this forum you know :P

Yes, Yoko Shimomura has been using East West Symphonic Orchestra stuff in her work for a while now, like the strings (I also think one of its oboes is used in a couple songs in Dream Team), and that library is used a ton in the recent Pokemon games (especially 4 trumpet sustained and 18 violins sustained vibrato), at least one preset was bound to be used in both. I don't want to say every string sample originates from there (like the ones in the boss battle theme, which I'm not sure of) but a good portion of them are.

As for route 111 PokeMusic, those drums sound like the Kontakt Factory Library Pop Kit, and I wanna say the synths are from HALion since that track was arranged by Minako Adachi and she uses HALion sounds a lot, but there actually aren't that many presets from HALion introduced in OR/AS. Then again, I don't have the full thing so I can't definitively verify.

For everything else, well, your guess is as good as mine.

She also uses Omnisphere a lot because the lead from Route 113 was figured to be in Omnisphere and it is also by Minako Adachi.

What did Pokemon Black/White/BW2 use for most of its samples? Omnisphere? Vienna? I forget what else.
by icecream at 10:04 AM EDT on August 5, 2016
Off the top of my head:
- Roland stuff (a bit SC-88, supposedly the Korg Triton)
- HALion stuff (the synth bass and accordion, both from its GM library)
- EWQL stuff (such as the "Pink Strat" guitar from Goliath)
- Spectrasonics stuff (a bunch of loops from Stylus RMX Xpanded were sampled, which IIRC is illegal by their standards lol, and some basses from Trilian)

Addictive Drums' startup kit was also sampled for Virbank Gym, and BW also used higher quality (and longer) samples of instruments from previous games, mainly HGSS (this includes VSL and Kontakt). I can't recall any specific Omnisphere presets being used in BW/2, but then again there are a lot of sounds in those games we don't know the original source of.

While using the samples, i was enable to remastered and remade one of the goldeneye tracks.

The main problem with the Collection mainly some of the presets are different i only got it for the metal vapor sound and infinite one sound as well.

The pitch is also a issue and it don't sound that close of the original.

I'm not entirely sure about this. I browsed through the Vintage Vault by UVI which I purchased recently and stumbled upon, what I think are, the strings from A Link to the Past. It's really hard to tell because of the quality difference. It's from a Kurzweil K250. Are you talking about my links? I've tried to fix that, but it doesn't work.
by punk7890-2 at 6:57 AM EDT on August 20, 2016
No, the page is fine, but the links contained in that link you posted are offline. I don't think anyone has a correct dump of that set sadly.
by PokeMusic at 7:08 AM EDT on August 20, 2016
Junichi Masuda apparently has some hardware synths, including a Teisco 110F and Korg MS10.

Can anyone make a list of instruments used in the Mario games just like someone did with the Pokemon games please? Same with Zelda, Kirby and Yoshi games?

"General MIDI" is not a proper instrument collection. It's merely a standard for what loose type of sound program numbers should provide by default.
by Ricky at 4:30 PM EDT on August 20, 2016
Does anyone know where the samples from Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga come from? I'm interested in the Organs and the Strings specifically.

Edit: Just to clarify, by Organs I mean the Drawbar and Rock Organs.

General MIDI by G-Boy at 3:07 AM EDT on August 21, 2016
@henke37
I know, I just found these instruments in that soundfont. The guy who made the soundfont ("Timtech") called it "General MIDI". Should I rename it?

It's this soundfont I'm talking about:

http://timtechsoftware.com/general-midi-soundfont-download/

I don't know the sources of the instruments in it.

That's the GeneralUser soundfont. It's not immediately obvious, but if you look at the URL...

http://timtechsoftware.com/ad.html?keyword=sf2%20format?file_name=the%20General%20MIDI%20Soundfont?file_url=uploads/GeneralUser_GS_SoftSynth_v144.sf2

It's not based on any specific set of hardware, but compiled samples from multiple hardware/recording sources (I think).

@jimbo1gaz
Then why was the Roland Sound Canvas brass section included?
by punk7890-2 at 4:59 PM EDT on August 21, 2016
As jimbo1gaz said, its compiled from multiple hardware/recording sources.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door by ThatPMGuy at 9:25 PM EDT on August 21, 2016
I found some samples used in Paper Mario TTYD which I didn't see on the spreadsheet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJznmG5D-7I uses Tron from E-MU Proteus VX.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAFAtfrWz4Q uses INTERSPACE from Zero-G Ambient 2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcLcNnJSNjI uses GLISS_WATERPHONE from E-MU Emulator II.

Does anyone know what the "Ooh" sound from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSA6dfz6BEY is? The sample I'm referring to can be heard at the beginning of the track, and comes in again at 0:10.

I just went through UVI's library Emulation II (E-MU Emulator II) and I found this:

Oooh noise from Goron City.

I have no idea what the original patch is called, but it's in the Tumba Mix and Tumba Solo patches in Emulation II by UVI.

Yeah, it's been posted several times now. It also is on Roland-L.A Composer Vol 1.

There really should be a more updated list in the first post so people don't spend decades trying to find stuff people have already found.
by Enclave123 at 5:55 PM EDT on August 22, 2016
@punk7890-2

I really agree with you on that, there should been a updated list.
by ThatPMGuy at 7:51 PM EDT on August 22, 2016
@starerik I found the samples you're referring to, they don't sound like the one that I'm looking for.

It probably wasn't my best idea to refer to it as an "Ooh" sound, I meant the sustained sound at 0:00-0:05 and 0:10-0:15.

@ThatPMGuy

Though I can't confirm it, I'd take a stab and say that's a Logic instrument, or at least a synthesiser sound, as opposed to a sample.

Speaking of which, is it confirmed that Logic's previous factory libraries contained patches/presets that are no longer present in X?

EDIT: Just found Glider from Korg Wavestation is used in the opening of Bowser's Rage from Paper Mario.

Yeah, "General MIDI" is not a soundfont, however, Windows includes an old version of Sound Canvas, known as Virtual Sound Canvas, in a file called gm.dls, and this is the general "MIDI sound" that people know and love.
by starerik at 7:47 AM EDT on August 23, 2016
@ThatPMGuy I totally forgot that you asked for the sound in Twilight Town, and that we used the same term "ooh". My post and find was independent from yours. Sorry about that.

The one you're after sounds like a swelling square pad.
Ace Attorney Soundfont by G-Boy at 9:58 AM EDT on August 23, 2016
FYI, I'm working on a Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney soundfont right now. I'll release it on this forum when it's done!

EDIT: I've stopped working on it, because I found another soundfont: http://www.mediafire.com/download/99wnctdg75r3jvc/Ace+Attorney+Soundfont.sf2

It's been very quiet.
Does anyone know what sample CDs Koji Kondo used in Super Mario 64 other than the Akai samples. Also, I think the KK songs from Animal Crossing use a similar Casio to the Rapman but the model is probably one with 100 sounds. Also, I checked a video of a Korg PA-600 and 2 VCO Planet Lead is used in Pom Pom's battle theme as the synth lead. It is probably from a Korg Triton LE someone said. I also recognized some brass presets from Super Mario 3D Land on the Roland Sound Canvas.

Here's one that might get some response if we go to a certain fan site.

Anybody know where the instruments of Earthbound come from?

I'm particularly interested in the source of that Overdriven Guitar that we all know from a couple final boss tracks, the saxophone from the beginning of What a Great Picture! and in most of the Runaway Five's songs, the Jingle Bells from Snowman, and the Rock Organ found in the beginning of Otherworldly Foe and in Runaway Five's Final Performance.

I did a search before I posted this and somebody said that the Korg M1 had a trumpet that sounded similar to Earthbound's one, so perhaps one should look around there?

Of course, if they haven't been bugged about this game enough already, we could always ask Hirokazu or Keiichi where they got their instruments.
Stinking Samples by G-Boy at 6:03 AM EDT on August 27, 2016
@Master E
I think I've heard the saxophone sample before... maybe it's from the Roland Sound Canvas or something like that.

BTW, do you mean starmen.net?
Maybe Off-Topic by G-Boy at 1:06 PM EDT on August 28, 2016
I know this question is bad and off-topic, but I couldn't find a good explanation, so: How do you install a sample library? I've downloaded the Best Service Gigapack library from a weird website (it took 2 hours to download), and I don't know how to open or install it.

I've tried unpacking the ZIP file, and the only files I could find in the folder were r00 files, more ZIP files, and a NFO file that I couldn't open. Do you have to burn the files to a CD, insert the CD into your computer, and load it with a sampler (or something)?
by Infernus Animositas at 1:42 PM EDT on August 28, 2016
.r00 probably means it's archived in WinRAR

Use 7zip or WinRAR to unpack it.
