how do you make samples mute other sounds in a soundfont? by Dutchie at 12:40 PM EST on February 18, 2012
everytime i want to make a drum kit i have trouble with the hi hat samples ad other cymbals

when i click the open hi hat and shortly after that click the closed hi hat, the sound of the closed hi hat shoud automatically mute the sound of the open hi hat right?

how do you do this? i use viena

I don't have Vienna installed at the moment but look for something like "exclusive class" for the drum notes you've assigned. I think the default is 0. You can set open, pedal and closed hihat to all use 1 (or whatever) instead, so that they cancel eachother out.
Thanks! by Yoshinkeru at 9:04 PM EST on February 19, 2012
Do you know, I have often wondered how that trick was achieved myself. Such a simple tip! This should be spread to other aspiring SoundFont writers/editors!

search for 'exclusive'. there's a bit about it on that page.

oh, yea i forgot to mention that i where using that one cheap ripoff of vienna [its spelled viena with just one n]

anyway, i have already tried to install that program from creative but it doesnt seem to start up, when i double click the exe file, a message pops up saying something about my soundcard

can this be fixed?

if its neccesairy i really have to start using vienna instead of viena

as I understand Viena is basically a clone of Vienna with the hardware dependency removed. look harder, the exclusive class setting will be there somewhere. surely it came with help files anyway?
Vien(n)a by Yoshinkeru at 3:05 PM EST on February 24, 2012
I used to use viena too, and you're right, I don't think the exclusive class thing is there.

Don't worry, though, I think the proper Vienna is available on Creative's site. Lemmee look...

Yeah, here we go! Try this. I'm not sure if you need a Creative soundcard or not...

Hm, that is strange if so. I'm about to download it and try it out myself rather than Creative's Vienna (just for a change.) If it's annoying somehow I can always shitcan it.

I am pretty confident that you can't use Vienna without a soundblaster, because it uses the soundblaster MIDI device drivers. At best, it'll open but you won't hear any sound for anything, at worst it won't even let you open it. Feel free to try it anyway.

Viena is an amazing programme (actually better than Vienna in some cases), along with SynthFont.
I am using version 0.923.

The programmer Kenneth is amazingly responsive and can be found at: SynthFont Website
And the forum is found at (and so am I): SynthFont/Viena Forum

It does do Exclusive Classes:

So do I, how did I miss that?

Hey, wait a minute...has Viena been updated? I haven't used that program in so long...

I'm actually curious with soundfonts myself . One problem I'm having is that sometimes , after so many keys are pressed , the last key you may hit will mute the previously released key noises . I have the release knob high as well and it does this . How would I be able to fix this problem ?
