Why is everything on josh.info so slow? by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:20 PM EDT on October 23, 2012
I'm trying to download stuff, and it's just REALLY slow. I checked my own download speed, and I should be getting about 1.1 or 1.2 MB/s

But the speed is just constantly dropping.... just now it said there were 8 minutes left, and that's just a 1,078 kilobyte file, and the speed was less than 2 kB/s. It's gone up to 4.8 kB/s just now, and slowly rising, but it's still some 0.3% of what it should be. Yes, it's so slow, that it's not even a single percent.

Saying what you "should" be getting is a bit silly, there's no rule requiring he pay for an up pipe to match your down... that said, that does seem a bit on the extreme end of slow. Good times though, reminds me of downloading stuff off napster with aol... ahh, nostalgia...

I don't mind the speeds - it's a free and a great service to us and others - but did a bomb go off in hes.joshw.info? I just went there and half the folders are missing and everything seems to have been uploaded in the last few days.

Huh, does seem a little slow. I'm testing it now and am getting about 30kb/s, although logging onto another server and downloading something from it gets me about 7Mb/sec, so maybe some funky routing or qos problems are happening.

I've been meaning to get off this server and onto something better (and cheaper :)

I've been thinking of something like Amazon EC2, but i'm not sure how much i can trust that...

I was saying what I "should" be getting, for comparison. Having said that, usually I can download from there at closer to that, around 1.1 MB/s.

And some other things as well, proper announcement once I'm done with uploading.
