Mario Galaxy AST files by Elven Spellmaker at 2:12 PM EST on November 9, 2012
In Informer on first sight these files look 44.1kHz and not 32kHz.
The information to the right of the 16kHz mark looks nearly identical (not always though) on most songs as the previous information (10-16kHz), is this some method of mixing the changes of those frequencies onto one channel into a mono stream?
EDIT: Or is it part of the way Nintendo makes things pseudo-5.1?
That bottom image is reversed after 16k, the song has a glissando that goes in on itself. I confirmed that by listening to the OST which is in 44.1kHz.
So ADPCM upsampling just takes the data from 10-16kHz and flips it for the >16kHz data? I didn't know VGMStream did upsampling, Winamp says it's playing in 32kHz which is odd.
vgsmstream doesn't do upsampling, it plays 32khz at 32khz, but if informer is sampling at 44.1khz then somewhere in between there's some resampling going on.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is the ADPCM that makes it look symmetrical across 16khz, that would make a little sense (but I don't know enough to really be sure), but anything over 32khz is coming from someone resampling without antialiasting.
