@Bxaimc: I got it about dupe renaming and will refrain from such extra work in future (saves me some time, doesn't it?). Sorry about Crackdown rerip suffering from those old issues (I got it all wrapped up & sent to servers before I saw your comment). There's just one track with "=" in filename anyway & its second name is somewhat descriptive so that it might be kept that way... I guess.

BTW could you advise me what has to be done with another pack of files which are simply begging to be renamed? You see in Goldeneye: Rogue agent there're multiple folders for different levels/maps and each of them has SOUND subfolder and inside it a mus_str.mus file can be found. I renamed all those MUS banks to 1~1_3.mus, 1~1_99.mus, 2~2.mus, etc. (using just names of level directories) but is it OK? Maybe I've got to keep it this way: 1~1_3~SOUND~mus_str.mus, 1~1_99~SOUND~mus_str.mus, 2~2~SOUND~mus_str.mus & so on? The 1st solution seems much more reasonable to me but possibly another one should be preferred and I'd not be so eager to rename given files/directories...

@Marcusss: I thought that nowadays you can simply add that enormous SS# bigfile to playlist and get hundreds of tracks / thousands of segments ready to be played back but probably there're lots of freaking "corner cases" with convoluted Ubi formats (the same deal as with EA ADPCM tracks)... Maybe you should contact Bnnm and see if he can add support for that specific BGM archive? I'm in no rush anyway and would like to possibly wait a bit but get a 100% streamed rip.
BTW is there really singular Music.SS# archive and all other audio (CS, VO, SFX, ambience) is located in other bigfiles? It's like a miracle to me because it's not always so convenient with UbiSoft soundbanks.

So long!

I'm pretty sure that this has been asked and answered before, but how do I loop ogg files? Talking about the files for games like DDLC and various others where the root files are in ogg format.
by bxaimc at 9:35 AM EST on February 6, 2018
It’s all done in the comments section of the tags: LoopStart and LoopEnd, you enter a value for those and vgmstream will read it. What I don’t know is if games will automatically check for this. After you enter these tags and values, you change the ext to logg or leave it .ogg if you want to try to use it in a game.

Freshly decrypted and uploaded: Dirge of Cerberus FF7 (PS2)(EU+JP)

Music by Masashi Hamauzu (FF XIII composer). Surprisingly it uses the highest quality of ATRAC3, ie. better than most PSP games.

Many songs had a *m.at3 version but those are just mono-doubled-as-stereo variations, didn't include. Removed many dupes too. For some reason bgm_255 (only) has weird loop points, I think its used as an intro of some kind (could be fixed manually?). The EU version has more tracks than the US version, which has more tracks than the JP version, which has exclusive PlayOnline stuff instead. Weird...

I think EU/US had more videos too but unfortunately decryptors only work on the JP version (guess they changed the keys), I hope you like moonspeak.

@bxaimc - Rename plz, I messed up: Romacing Saga 2 > Romancing Saga 2

@bxaimc - Makes sense, but how do I get/find the loop points of games? I don't personally own most of these games, so I can't grab them myself.
by kode54 at 11:28 PM EST on February 6, 2018
From the Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age, which soundtrack is which? I can only recognize subsong #1 as the PS2 version.
by bxaimc at 11:41 PM EST on February 6, 2018
@mariofan12ify: Sometimes loop points can be scattered around the game data in another file or even the executable which isn’t very fun. For my own pleasure, I find my own loops manually using programs like Sound Forge, Wavosaur, or Audacity.

@kode54: The order is “PS2 Hardware” even though they used PSF2s more than likely, The Zodiac Age Re-recorded soundtrack, and the Original Soundtrack from 2006.

How do I know the PSF2s were used? Find Dalmasca Estersand (music100 I think) and Giza Plains and listen to the first sub song of each. Then listen to the PSF2 set. And finally, play the original game on PS2 or find gameplay videos for that version. You’ll notice the percussion (snare drums to be exact) is broken/missing on the PSF2s compared to the real hardware.

...Dirge of Cerberus?!? o_O by SquareTex at 10:04 PM EST on February 7, 2018
Ooh yessss....YESSSSS. :D

Ages ago, when decrypting the original audio was a pipe dream, I took the OST and Multiplayer tracks and cobbled together an ADX set that attempted to loop the tracks as closely as possible. And in some cases...a BIG swing and a miss. ;P

Sadly, those ADXs bit the dust due to a STUPID accidental HD format. <:S

Just recently, I dug out the OST and was listening to it again. I was wondering if I'd be brave enough to do it all over again, but go the OGG route. Well, now...it won't be necessary. THANK YOU!!! :D

For the NSF archive, LXXX XXXXT (1993)(Unknown).7z is actually a sound rip of the unreleased Love Quest prototype. It was silently released and claimed to be from a SMB romhack:
http://nintendoage.com/auth/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=100772
http://lostmediaarchive.wikia.com/wiki/Love_Quest_(Original_1994_Unreleased_Famicom_Port)

You should check out the NesDev thread for NSF request. It has very new rips: http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=115&hilit=NSF

Also, MrNorbert1994 has an NSF archive too that's worth checking out (click the NSF picture to be directed to a MediaFire download):
http://mrnorbert1994.uw.hu/

Also, some of the metadata for the NSF could be updated. vgmpf.com has composer information collected from interview. I have a personal NSF collection of my own that is much more updated than the one on here. I could share it if you'd like.

To whom ever uploaded the kingdom hearts 2.8 final chapter, thanks a million!
Would anyone like it tagged?
I'll do it for myself anyway, so I was just wondering if I should go through the trouble of uploading it somewhere.
I can also tag 2.5 once it gets re-dumpped; or whatever.
I already have 1.5 tagged if anyone's interested.

should be in the unlicensed folder.

@Mark: Hi mate, big thanks for all those Screamer games & especially PowerSlave! I'm absolutely sure I listened to the latter eons ago but for some unknown reason didn't save a single composition for personal collection. I did it this time, be sure of that!
Actually all that old-school batch is quite good but I haven't checked out all those rips you contributed... yet. Nonetheless I'll keep 'em in mind and not forget about Fatal racing, TM1 or Virtuoso sets!
BTW would you like to add Screamer 4x4 to Archives? I have this one in collection already but it's an ancient transcoded (I'm sure of it!) release, it means that any rerip (CD-Audio dump I guess) is most welcome. Give me some heads-up if you're gonna do this rip, deal? There's no ETA as usual but I'll definitely grab proper rip of that VG whenever it surfaces.

@BX: I think this obsolete version should be deleted: not only it was custom-split into 8 pseudo-tracks (original Music.xwb can now be played as it is or divided into separate streams with XWB_Split.exe) it also misses quite a few audio tracks from movies (even those actually containing undisputed BGM! I don't really know why Knurek left them out, they were included in my initial archive posted here but somehow those BIKs never made it to JoshW set).
My last rendition of Tracklist.txt is also superior to its older counterpart (track titles became even longer & more precise + numerous band names were edited too so that they're pretty accurate now).
Oh and timings for beginning/ending of each song weren't always definite in that old gamerip.
To sum it all up: I don't see any reason to keep that outdated variant because newer set surpasses it in every possible way - much more VOs in vids, Bink files weren't split into multitude of (mostly mono) BIKs plus original XWB is also whole & untouched (it is also truly convenient to have 105 streams in just 1 file), etc.

Later!

Uploaded Mario Kart Arcade GP DX to the server. Hopefully it gets approved. They were originally IDSP files but they were changed to .lwav files. And also, is there a console for Arcade games? Hey, guys... I know I'd usually have a few new rips posted by this point, but unfortunately I've got some PC issues at the moment, which forces me to put any new uploads on delay for now. Hopefully I'll have said issues sorted out as soon as possible.

BTW, @bxaimc, I once again noticed that DmC: Devil May Cry for the PS3 still wasn't added to the archive yet. Just posting my rip again, if it's acceptable...

Sorry about that. It needs to be sorted before I can upload it because it has all sorts of sounds in there apart from just music. I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. Unless you want to have a go and sort it.

Wow Mark, that "GT Racing 97" set looks like special delivery and more than a pleasant yet totally unexpected surprise! I was unsure anyone even remembers about this game anymore, did you play it when it came out or do you have some different reasons to know this racing title even exists?
Also Rebel Moon should be quite interesting, I have Rebel Moon rising already but original RM might be just as nice. Thnx for supplying this truckload of goodness and sharing those neat sets!
Oh and H.A.W.X. 1 should be checked out too, I have the 2nd one but haven't ever searched for the 1st installment. I presume it's finally time to fill in some gaps!
All the best!

I have a rip that's in ".mus" format, which for this rip is just headerless 8-bit PCM. Do I upload the original files, convert them into another format (FLAC), or just add headers with ffmpeg?
by OzoneOne at 3:27 AM EST on February 13, 2018
Hi, I was wondering if we could have ExciteBots: Trick Racing for the Wii added? There seems to be a QuickBMS script for it and a few archives in the game that could potentially contain music

@ Basillica: Original files are preferred as far as I know, might want clarification on that though

Edit: I guess some stuff happened in this thread about ExciteBots but there hasn't been any progress since 2011: https://hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php?showthread=22254&showpage=0

Are MIDIs an accepted format for PC game rips?
so... by Eliskuya at 1:05 AM EST on February 14, 2018
Bxaimc, I was wondering if its possible if you could try get the music from Animetic Story Game 1 Cardcaptor Sakura.
by Basillica at 3:48 AM EST on February 14, 2018
I've uploaded archives for the following games:

-PC

Axysnake (AxySoft)
Airxonix (AxySoft)

However, no music player will be able to play them because they have a .mus extension when they're headerless unsigned 8-bit PCM files.

@Basillica: that depends. Usually with MIDI exist some sort of sound font or sample banks. I think if you include those then maybe it’s fine?

@Eliskuya: maybe? No guarantees though.

@OzoneOne: uhh.....I’ll ask furrybob if he remembers something since, judging by the thread, he had some interest in it?

Is it possible to create GENH files without Windows? VGMToolBox doesn't work under Wine.

I do have a Windows machine, but I don't usually have access to it, and I don't quite have enough computing power to run a VM.

by bxaimc at 8:22 AM EST on February 15, 2018
Technically it’s possible to make GENH headers by hand through a hex editor as long as you follow the spec.

Secret of Mana HD on PC released today...hmmm 🤔
by Basillica at 6:03 PM EST on February 15, 2018
@bxaimc
Is there a format specification document somewhere?

I could try to reverse engineer the format from the VGMToolBox code. That would be a pain, though.
by bxaimc at 7:23 PM EST on February 15, 2018
Unfortunately no there isn't :(
by Basillica at 8:04 PM EST on February 15, 2018
I'm currently working on reverse engineering it by changing values in an existing header and seeing what happens in foobar2000. I'll post the results up somewhere when I'm done (pastebin or Google Drive).

Related: For PC games, do I have to upload the original files along with the GENHs, or are the filenames contained within the headers sufficient?
by bxaimc at 8:43 PM EST on February 15, 2018
Just the GENH files. It’s basically just a generic header attached to the original file without modifying it.

This question wasn't answered before, so I'll ask again. When I uploaded Mario Kart Arcade GP DX to the server, it said "You are logged in as mariofan12ify so bxaimc will know it's from you"
So do I need to add my username to the original .7z file?
by bnnm at 11:54 AM EST on February 16, 2018
@Basillica - ultimately vgmstream plays those GENH, meaning whatever it supports is the spec. IOW check the bottom of this file.

@bxaimc - Any chance you could post Xeno2 with original filenames, or a tagged names > original names list or something?
by bxaimc at 1:15 PM EST on February 16, 2018
@mariofan12ify: Uhh. I guess you don’t need to add your name to the upload as long as you’re logged in? I guess Datschge finally made the changes I asked for :)

@bnnm: ✉️

@mygoshi: No names. Might take a while. More than likely ATRAC9.

edited 1:21 PM EST February 16, 2018

@everyone: also, if you guys would be so kind to use at *minimum* 7z compression with normal - ultra settings (don’t care if it’s LZMA or LZMA2 but I think LZMA2 is the better compression algo? Plus I think it compresses faster?)

No big deal, if it’s not possible, I can continue recompressing some sets.

edited 2:03 PM EST February 16, 2018
by AnonRunzes at 5:01 PM EST on February 16, 2018
well, for the .7z format i use "ultra" for compression level, "LZMA2" for compression algorithm, 128MB for dictionary size, 273 for word size, 64GB for "solid block size" and 1 for "number of cpu threads". that's quite enough for me to "pack" my own VGM set without any foreseeable problems some sets tend to have, such as tagged filenames.

i just don't understand why people tend to do this with streamed sets though. i mean, why can't we just think of developing a dedicated playlist format that deals with such streamed files so it can be used on vgmstream? just keep yourselves open-minded everyone!

I try to use compression where necessary but lots of formats are usually heavily compressed in their original form but yeah for wav and others, definitely I try to compress as much though I don't
bother if it takes minutes to compress a further 1 or 2%

Btw i downloaded ToZ and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the latest release page with my mobile 3 times each and every time they were corrupt evem though size is correct... Secret of Mana works fine so dunno whats up. Never had issues before..oh well If they work for you guys then ignore me and I will just use my pc at some stage to grab them again.

Wow, lots of awesome new rips this week (XC2, DW9, Secret of Mana remake, etc.).... really wish I could've contributed, but sadly my PC's still on the fritz.

Anyway, late response, but as far as the DMC rip is concerned, I actually DID try to sort it out a bit before uploading it.... but gave up partway through due to the sheer amount of files to go through, lol. Pretty much the same story as with the PS3 Splatterhouse rip I did a while back. I'm not sure if I'm ready to dive back into that haystack just to pick out a few files containing a split-second or so of music, but in case anyone else is willing to.... be my guest. BTW, checking out the new round of rips reminded me of yet another set of mine that went unnoticed.... the first Dragon Ball Xenoverse for the PS3. Thankfully, you don't have to worry about hundreds of small files for this set! ;)

Oh, and @Knurek, interesting coincidence that you re-ripped Chaos Rings.... I had recently considered doing that myself before my PC troubles hit. I see there's no need for that now, heh. Hopefully, I can post new uploads soon!
by Knurek at 3:44 AM EST on February 17, 2018
@bx: Let me know if you'd prefer for me to upload my rips directly to the server. Up to you, really, you might want to check them out, or remove the playlists I create. But if I can save you some time/work, just let me know.
by bxaimc at 9:22 AM EST on February 17, 2018
@Knurek: you can if you want to since you have access :)

I’ll still grab them for a listen regardless ;)

Hi BX, how's it going with The Incredible Hulk (PC) & Spartan - Total Warrior (Xbox) sets? Or did one of them (or maybe both) not make it here so that you don't have them at hand? I'm sure I've experienced a "disconnected" sort of error while uploading one of these rips but didn't retry right away.
What do you think? Could I forget to restart my upload(s) and those sets were never upped? But if they were I'd still like to get an update on them if it's not too much to ask.

Where should I post the rips from Super Lucky's Tale and ReCore? It appears Lucky uses Wwise .bnk, a single 76MB file that contains 128kbps Vorbis, including jingles and some sound effects, and there don't appear to be loop points if I split it into .wem files using bnkextr, which I had to build myself, because my AV scanner tripped on the binary download.

E: The binary download was quarantined as:

PWS:Win32/Lineage

Seemed rather large for a simple binary, but MinGW32 produced an even larger binary, even after stripping it.

by Ultrafighter at 6:37 AM EST on February 18, 2018
@Bxaimc: That explains it, I've already forgotten about those unplayable single-track split FSBs containing MP2 which were found in that Hulk VG... Of course it'd be the best option to wait until they're finally playable and exclude original FMOD banks from final version of a set.
BTW what a weird sorting of individual streams in that title! You see main non-interactive BGM bank also has a hundred or two short VO files inside and there're also multiple small FBSs holding just music (I'm talking about the ones with "(interactive) " prefix); on the other hand we've got a single *.fsb which contained one composition (this file's definitely one of a kind!) and numerous 1-track FSBs which didn't require splitting of any kind too (those had just one voice quote in it so that I left 'em out). Take my word for that: I've never seen anything like that before! It's not just that strange grouping of sound files but also extremely low quality in all the tracks. Gotta rip this score from some different platform some time...

And regarding Spartan: all those *.W or *.WA files I packed and uploaded were originally headerless files with *.WAV extension, no extraction was even needed because they're originally located in SOUND/STM0 folder. I didn't try to decode every single bugged track with VGMstream's test.exe but normally it fixes such issues... I guess?

Later!

Going to reupload my AxySoft rips, as I've now converted them to GENH.

@Knurek: I could try to look into it, I guess? You seem to have better luck with the vita stuff though. Do you still have access to GGn and Bemaniso, btw?
by kode54 at 9:43 PM EST on February 19, 2018
If I have a Wwise .bnk, do I need to post the .bnk, or is there an official splitter that I should use?
by bxaimc at 10:31 PM EST on February 19, 2018
There are plenty of bms scripts and tool called bnkextr but unfortunately the bnk itself doesn’t contain names (at least not plaintext). Would be nice to support the bnk directly though. Me personally, I usually extract the wems from it. Be careful with those RIFF/X headers though, according to bnnm, sometimes the size declared in the header doesn’t match the actual size of the file.

Any chance to rip Mortal kombat X or Shadow warrior 2 for PS4? Just saying...
Cheers!
by bxaimc at 8:26 AM EST on February 21, 2018
Mortal Combat X, maybe. I hate dealing with UE4 XXX, but yea it’s possible.
by marcusss at 5:14 PM EST on February 21, 2018
From the UE4 games I ripped so far, they tend to use low bitrate efficient audio..so hopefully on the ps4 they have improved the quality a little since it is a powerful console afterall.

As always, look forward to more goodies

Btw I like Dragon Quest Builders music on the ps4. Nice classic /orchestrated style music. Tbh I never listened much to the DQ series but this is a good start .Reminds me of the Lunar series which I always loved :)
