Fighter's Impact PS1 (JP): http://www.sendspace.com/file/ujrvjd

Sharing this because recent MAME svn's finally have some ZSG emulation enabled meaning games like this one finally have music... even if they don't sound right yet.

Hey, I found this site which has a lot of music that's not found here.
I've only seen a couple of pages, but it's worth checking out.

The music on that site are rips in flac or mp3(for the ones i could confirm), not audio in original format extracted from the video games themselves. I couldn't confirm some others because they use an archive format that you have to pay for.

Soon. Upload isn't too fast compared to download speeds

plus I have a life too -_-

Is there a rip of the PlayStation version of Mission: Impossible?
by Kirishima at 9:33 PM EDT on March 19, 2014
@TheUltimateKoopa

Is this what you wanted:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/3f8gne

Ripped from US version.

Tried to separate out music from voice work and cutscenes. Should be complete unless there was something sequenced in there or the developers hid music among the abundant dialog.

Nice work on adding or better say integrating these contributions into archives Knurek! However I have a suggestion: why don`t you state what addons, DLCs, etc. are included in the main game`s pack? I think it`d help people searching for scores or soundtracks coming from those smaller releases alone. Not everyone can figure out all by himself that he just might find some music out of expansion packs or whatever inside sets dedicated to their original titles (if to judge merely by the name of a set).
Do you think that a bit stricter specification of set contents would increase usability and keep overall usage convenience on the highest level that such an awesome archive deserves?
by Knurek at 5:00 AM EDT on March 21, 2014
The archive names are already quite long, people tend to hit Windows 255 character limits if they have them in subdirectories.

I don't think changing Borderlands 2 (2012-09-18)(Gearbox)(2k Games).7z to Borderlands 2 {Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty} {Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage} {Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt} {Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep} {The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler}{Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre} (2012-09-18)(Gearbox)(2k Games).7z would work out for people, sorry.
by Lunar at 6:16 AM EDT on March 21, 2014
I just rename them anyway. haha
many a time have I copied across HD backups and files have had truncated filenames :(
by kode54 at 11:46 AM EDT on March 21, 2014
Maybe they'll fix that in Windows 9. :D

Incidentally, I changed all of vgmstream in my fork to use a global definition for maximum path length, and set it to 32768, because foobar2000 supports paths that long. Just like any Windows program can if it uses the Unicode API and precedes the path with "\\.\".

Too bad Windows will never fix that bug globally for everyone. Too many people probably have their software hard coded to use whatever PATH_MAX or MAX_PATH that MSVC defines, which I think is 260.

Meanwhile, in every other modern user facing operating system...
by TheUltimateKoopa at 7:49 PM EDT on March 23, 2014
@Kirishima: Thanks... it's just a shame that, like the PC version of Turok 2, the songs don't even play in full, such as Port of Adia, which goes on for about 5:24, yet in the game, ends at about 5:08. In short, anyone who fades out before the full loop has finished, should want to die a most painful death.
by Koto at 5:44 PM EDT on March 24, 2014
@bxaimc: Your incoming KH1.5 is different from the one uploaded by GuardianSoul? His gamerip have 2 files (music100 and music137) completely unplayable, and I would like to know if they could be played at last, or if you are able to extract adittional themes (I miss some themes like the one used in the first battle against Darkside).

Uhh, guys, if anyone's up for some completely unexpected GOOD NDS soundtrack, try Nihon Pro Mahjong Kishikai Kanshuu - Pro ni Naru Mahjong DS (2005-11-24)(Affect)(Success).

Surprise of the month for me, wasn't expecting FM music hitting pmh before Etrian Odyssey. :)

Whoa, that Nihon Pro Mahjong Kishikai Kanshuu soundtrack is really cool; haven't gotten this big a surprise from an NDS soundtrack since NEW Eitango Target 1900DS which... incidentally also used FM music. That is Yousuke Yasui's speciality though, of course ;)

Hey Josh, nice work with my collection! :)
I've checked some of my rips and noticed that duplicate tracks like movies are only included in one platform. Shouldn't there be some note that explains where to find the "missing" tracks?

Don't know. I haven't uplaoded any 5s yet, but I know a couple of Alpha's were 5 like the Brave rips.

I have the music files from the game New York Race for PS2 (perfectly playable with vgmstream) and would like to submit them to the joshw archive. Where should I upload/post them?

Also, I noticed that the CD-Audio streams from the PSX games are ripped in MP3. Any chance they could be replaced by EAC lossless rips?
by Knurek at 1:08 AM EDT on April 20, 2014
Where should I upload/post them?

Wherever you want, just post a download link here.

Any chance they could be replaced by EAC lossless rips?

No plans to do so, server space is finite and I don't have the source material anymore for most of the games either way.

I thought I had mentioned this at some point, but I probably didn't....

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance just got added to PMH, but it's missing two tracks (understandable, since they seem to have been widely overlooked). Two of the tracks which aren't on the OST (90 and 91 in the GSF set) are different in the original Japanese version. Just lettin' ya know.
by Knurek at 12:50 AM EDT on April 23, 2014
Amended, thanks for the note.
by banshiryuu at 1:25 AM EDT on April 25, 2014
Some new assorted tags for PMH I've had lying around for a while... (or in some cases just did :P)

RPG Tsukuru GB (GBC)(2000-03-17)(Kuusou Kagaku)(ASCII)
Medarot 5 - Susutake Mura no Tenkousei Kabuto Version (GBC)(2001-12-14)(Natsume)(Imagineer)
Samsara Naga 1x2 (GBA)(2001-12-14)(Groove Box Japan)(Victor)
Dragon Quest Characters - Torneko no Daibouken 2 Advance - Fushigi no Dungeon (2001-12-20)(Chunsoft)(Enix
Di Gi Charat - DigiCommunication (GBA)(2002-10-25)(M2)(Broccoli)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Blue Rescue Team [Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon - Ao no Kyuujotai] (2005-11-17)(Chunsoft)(Nintendo)

Some really nice songs in this bunch, some standouts being VS Hardness Ten, Sky Tower, Absent-Mindedness, Toro Ruins...
by Dais! at 6:35 AM EDT on May 3, 2014
two more things to bug ya about, Knurek.

First, I should've been clearer, but I can tell you which is which with those two Japanese FFTA tracks. Unknown 3 is the original track for "Data Screen" (you can hear it for a split-second here), while Unknown 2 is the original track for "The World is Changing". I verified these myself (shoulda mentioned as much).

(oh geez, how did I miss that, after the first 15 seconds, "Main Theme" and Unknown 1 are basically the same song? And that both would match almost perfectly with the scene where "The World is Changing" plays, which itself mirrors the first half of the opening where "Main Theme" is used? Unknown 1 must either be an early version of Main Theme or a discarded attempt at "The World is Changing"...)

Secondly, I did a search for "Neverland" on joshw.info (looking for the Saturn version of Chaos Seed and anything else of interest), and I noticed something that I'm pretty sure I noticed before and will be doomed to forever notice again if I don't tell somebody at some point.

A good half-dozen or so sets for games published by Idea Factory have "(Neverland)" listed in the filename as if our dear defunct friends had been involved, but I'm pretty sure this is a case of an understandable mix-up. "Never Land" is actually the name of a vaguely-defined set of Idea Factory titles - I'm still not sure whether it's a franchise or a universe or what, but as far as I know, none of them involved the company Neverland Co.

I suppose it's not impossible that Neverland did some grunt work on Never Land-related games and is only credited by the few sites who know this, I could be totally wrong, but I think it's more likely that there is no connection at all between them. This kind of confusion is likely the result of Idea Factory's notoriously corrupting influence.

---------

banshiryuu - ooh, neat set of tags there.

Most JRPG ports on the GBA aren't particularly interesting in terms of music conversion (it's generally mostly adequate or quite inadequate, with the notable exception of FF1&2). But Samsara Naga 1x2 and Torneko are a bit different than failing to reproduce SNES clarity (or Genesis force). The former is interesting as a case of trying to find a balance between the original NES and SNES sounds, while with Torneko, you have a conversion where the original PS1 music was not just streamed but orchestrated. It must've been a challenge to make the dozen or so variations of the dungeon theme sound distinct from each other.

As you noted, "Toro Ruins" stands out, as it does in the original game. I have to admit, while I say they are interesting examples, both releases still mostly pale in comparison to the games they were based on, and also it is 3 in the morning and I've been writing this post out of order and to be honest I'm not even sure what I'm talking about so I'm posting it while it still seems legible.

Samsara Naga has a click/pop at the start of every track with foo_input_gsf. I wonder what causes that.

Medabot 5 has that nice Natsume GBC sound, but I''m trying to figure out how Battle 2 works. It's gotta be for special event battles, right? Maybe the developers had a different idea about proper battle theme labeling than I do.

Something new about this? :$
by banshiryuu at 1:10 AM EDT on May 7, 2014
Hmm, that's odd. I'm not getting any clicks with Samsara Naga in foobar e:(

But yeah, I definitely agree with you on your points. It's mostly interesting for me at least to find out just how faithful the arrangers can be with their conversions. For Toro Ruins specifically it was cool to hear the drums clearer than any other part in the song. But yeah, there's no way that it's replacing the original's place in my heart any time soon. ^^

I'm working on collecting the music sets for all WWF/WWE wrestling games. I noticed that WWE Day of Reckoning (1) for GameCube is actually Day of Reckoning 2, which meant DoR 1 is missing, so I just uploaded proper versions of DoR 1 AND DoR 2.

DoR 1

DoR 2

I'm hoping someone could let me know when this is done so I can then remove them from my hosting area.

Got them, than you for contributing.
SSX 3 (PS2) by Firebrandx at 4:58 AM EDT on June 6, 2014
Did whoever rip the SSX 3 tracks retain the original bit-rate? The reason I ask is I found an alternate package on another JoshW directory that had the songs rated at 22050, while the current official package has them at 32000Hz. I want to find out what they were actually store at and would prefer the original bit rate. The two /BIG files total about 800MB, while the package on JoshW is less than 700Mb. This leads me to suspect they were 44100 files originally.

Edit: I just figured out the 22050 set is taken from the Gamecube version of the game. That would explain the bit rate difference. Now all I need is a confirmation that the 32000Hz rate is what the original PS2 files were stored at. Thanks to whoever can confirm this!

By the way, track #25 is corrupt in the PS2 package. It plays static in Foobar 2000 when you try to play that track.

SSX 3 (PS2) by Firebrandx at 4:22 PM EDT on June 6, 2014
Well I tried extracting the music myself, but it seems people have been asking how to do this for years on the Internet, and there's never been a straight knowledgeable answer. I got as far as using Dragon Unpacker to extract the .mus files from the .big container files on the disc, which is as far as I've seen anyone else able to do. Attempting to use MFplayer to play the mus files gives garbage results, although you can sort of hear some music beneath the static. I'd like to know what the big secret it so I can do this properly...

Edit: Some progress: I was able to find an "sx.exe" command prompt program that converts the MUS files into the wave data. The problem is it only does the first 2 seconds. I need some pointers on how to get it to convert the entire MUS file.

The game uses streamed audio played back in a sequenced format; I'd wager your program is simply decoding the first detected audio clip and ignoring the rest. Maybe each clip has its own header? You may be able to truncate the first clip from the file and have it decode the second, and so on.
by Firebrandx at 1:54 AM EDT on June 8, 2014
That would be great... IF I knew how to do that. In other news: Just from the 2-second clips, I was able to confirm the tracks were stored at 32000Hz. Kind of disappointing.

Anyway, I'm hoping whoever did the track package on the joshw directory will see these posts and fix track 25. That is the only track messed up in the package.
by Ultrafighter at 1:53 PM EDT on June 9, 2014
You can extract individual segments in SNG format either with help of FastElbja`s ADPCM player 1.44h (simply scan the files you want to split into such smaller parts with fixed play length out of the actual tracks, those EAMs) or ALuigi`s QuickBMs accompanied by Alpha23`s generic splitter script (it comes with preset values for such tasks however firstyou`ll have to uncomment the required strings to make them readable by the prog thus usable). Of course you should save all those found segments somewhere on your HDD before you let that console decoder loose on them. But if you have vgmstream installed for EAM playback you should be able to listen to such SNGs with no further conversion required, simply add barrage of those 2, 3 and so on second long "clips" a playlist and you`re good to go.

And the most common reason for EAMs or SNGs to sound as ear abusing noise is because they`re not of EA`s 4-bit variation of PS2 ADPCM origin but are pretty likely of a later introduced VBR MP3 nature. Try converting each segment which you think is being played back incorrectly with Zench`s EALayer3, another command line decoder which should make the most typical MP3s out of files fed to it and resulting tracks / clips have to play just in any player and it doesn`t matter whether VGMS in installed or not.

Hope this helps although I`d be quite lost if the solution suggested in the paragraph above didn`t work out at all.
by Firebrandx at 8:45 PM EDT on June 9, 2014
@ Ultrafighter,

If you reread my posts more carefully, you'll see I'm referring to the original .MUS files stored on the disc. The EAM package hosted on joshw is NOT how the files on the disc are stored.

Now if the programs you suggested work on .MUS files, then of course it doesn't matter and I'll look into it.
by Ultrafighter at 7:37 AM EDT on June 10, 2014
If you really want to check bitrate values out then as I said simply try opening those extracted MUS files with an ADPCM player by that exact author and it should almost definitely work. BTW I forgot to mention that it also has a built-in converter to PCM WAV so this function makes it interchangeable with that sx.exe.

I get that those EAMs are probably not 100% original game files retained as they originally were although I haven`t ripped all those games myself. However many years ago I completely processed all the music from "Sled storm" (2002) using just that tool by FastElbja (if to mention GoldWave for further merging of segments) and everything worked out just perfectly fine. I`d like to specifically point out that happened a few years before I even found out anything about EAMs and HCS64 rips.

That`s all I can help you with, if solutions suggested by me don`t satisfy you you can always attempt searching for more programs yourself IE the ones which would be able to do the work more appropriately.

I've uploaded the PS1 rip of WWF Attitude Beta. The big difference between the Beta version and the Retail version is the Beta themes were 2:00 in length, while the Retail were only 1:00.

Information from the XA's via vgmstream:
Sample Rate: 37800 Hz
Channels: 2
Encoding: CD-ROM XA 4-bit ADPCM
Layout: CD-ROM XA
Metadata From: RIFF/CDXA Header

It's uploaded HERE. Please let me know when you downloaded it so I can remove it.
by godzfire at 1:04 PM EDT on June 24, 2014
Here are rips of the three WWF/WWE wrestling games for XBox:

RAW 1 (ADX)

RAW 2 (XBox ADPCM)

WrestleMania 21 (Euro) (XWB)

Again please let me know when these are uploaded so I can delete from my server.
by Ultrafighter at 1:49 AM EDT on June 28, 2014
You might want to extract contents of XWBs from WrestleMania 21 with help of unXWB as it`ll let you include only actual music in the package you offer for archiving because as far as I remember each contender sound XWB contains something like crowd cheering and possibly some quotes by him in addition to an entrance music track. The choice whether to consider my advice or leave your initial rip intact in up to you, it`s very unlikely anyway that current state of things will stop Knurek from adding it to console music archives.

PS. Almost forgot! To be able to play extracted WAVs you should add either "X" or "L" in the beginning of their extensions because the game in question uses the same format as Raw2. I suppose you`ve already done something similar to XBox ADPCM files from the latter title to make them playable with VGMStream?
by godzfire at 4:14 PM EDT on June 28, 2014
I had considered extracting them to normal wavs, however it seems the archives people upload on here are simply the untouched game audio files, so I was trying to keep with the normal rule.
by Knurek at 11:32 AM EDT on June 29, 2014
Not really, I'd prefer to have the SFX/Voice data removed if possible.
by godzfire at 6:35 PM EDT on June 29, 2014
So do you want all of them converted from their native files to wavs or just that one game?
by Knurek at 8:23 PM EDT on June 29, 2014
Don't convert to wavs, just unpack the single files from XWB and remove the SFX/crowd cheering.
Something like extracting ADX files from AFS archives.

If that's not possible without converting the source to another format, leave it as it is.
by godzfire at 8:25 PM EDT on June 30, 2014
Well the only way I was able to extract from the XWBs were via getting everything out via conversion.

So then can you upload the 4 sets then and let me know when I can take them down please?
by Knurek at 9:49 AM EDT on July 1, 2014
Done, feel free to remove.

I had these sitting around for a while and finally decided to submit these.

Biohazard 2 xa files: https://www.sendspace.com/file/ua3n48

Used a different method to rip these in order to omit voice work. I don't remember which region version I ripped these from... I'd have to look later. I'll probably rerip them later to get proper names for them instead of using the soundtrack names.
by godzfire at 12:34 PM EDT on July 1, 2014
Thanks Knurek
by Kirishima at 8:40 AM EDT on July 2, 2014
Update, Redid the Biohazard 2 files with proper names: https://www.sendspace.com/file/bl4m7k

Also, Shiritsu Justice Gakuen Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki 2: https://www.sendspace.com/file/kdx1pu

Most of the music in this game was already ripped from Rival Schools, so they were omitted. Missing sequences are not ripped yet because there are several tucked away in data2's biz files and the extracted data doesn't work for some reason. There are, however, several other sep files out in the open there, so i'll try to finish converting those later.

Friendly reminder: pmh is closing in on Nintendo DS/PSP release dates. Once we hit that, I'll purge both 2sf.joshw.info and psp.joshw.info sites and keep reuploading pmh sets in monthly installments.

i've been under a rock or something but what is pmh and do atrac3 have loop points?
by Knurek at 10:24 PM EDT on July 9, 2014
@Sir-Sabin:

Portable Music History
ATRAC3 has loop points, decoding both AT3 and AT3+ is supported natively by foo_vgmstream only (winamp/standalone requires wavewriting with an external tool + .POS files which will be included in the pmh sets).

@JudgeIto:

Same deal as with the GSF/WSR - data on joshw mirrors is outdated vs the pmh sets (I've been retagging/timing/ripping them for the site). It's just easier for me to start the mirrors with a clean slate.

Would it be possible to sticky this to the front page so in case there aren't any replies in here for awhile it doesn't get lost down in the list, or for example if there are new users, that they know this excellent resource is here?

- convert all frame using EA tool
- recombine all frame to EAM

the original format is EA Layer3 container.
this one need to be reripped.

Hey joshw there's a app for android called droidsound-e it's a chiptune player it plays a ton of formats and also it allows to connect to a network like modland for example

I was wondering if you could reupload the music you have on your website to 7z non solid so we could stream from your site cuz we can't stream to solid

I know I'm new and am asking alot but please think about it, your servers the best for chiptune music and having your server to stream from would be so awesome

Some more research will need to be done on 3DS sequences then, which I plan to name 3SF once some stuff is working. I'd be happy if anyone can help with the work, but I'm mostly gonna be editing CyberBotX's NCSF source to read BCSAR archives.

Was interning this summer, and I'm back in school now, so I can't really make time for it alone.

Hiya. I'm timing/tagging my first PSF set (not ripped by me). I'm wondering, are there any particular guidelines I should follow? For example, should all tracks have at least two loops? I have the soundtrack CD for the game and some only plays through once, and some don't even fade and kinda has that "ended prematurely" feeling even though they don't. I've been going accurately after the lengths and fades on the CD so far (for the tracks that were included anyway..), but I'm getting a little unsure if the rip would be acceptable this way.

edited 1:27 PM EDT August 29, 2014
by Mouser X at 10:41 AM EDT on August 29, 2014
Two loops (where applicable, of course. If the song doesn't loop or just ends, don't add a loop, and don't add fade time to songs that just end) is the standard, with a 7 to 10 second fade out. It may be true to the OST track times, but often it is discovered that the OST track times either don't loop, or end prematurely. As for "extra" songs (music in the game, but not the OST), assuming the OST is mostly complete, order and title the songs according to the OST (where applicable), and give the extras either "999" for a track number, or "901-999" if you know of an appropriate track order for the extras.

On the other hand, if the OST is very incomplete (for example SolatoRobo's OST has 25 songs, but the game itself has 80), it is preferable that you match the songs to an in-game sound test (SolatoRobo has this) if possible, or to order them in the order you'd hear them in the game through normal play-through (if you're familiar enough with the game). Otherwise, it's probably best to follow the OST (if available), and then either arrange the extras by track name, or by their HEX number from when they were ripped.

Hopefully that's all of the "unwritten rules". It's all of the ones I can recall. Mouser X over and out.
by Nisto at 11:26 AM EDT on August 29, 2014
Okay, cool. Seems I've been doing everything "right" then. I don't think the game has any sound test unfortunately. I was planning on doing exactly as you say though - go by the track order of the soundtrack where applicable.

Thanks :)
