How would I go about adding a ps2 game here I wanted to add echo night beyond :D
by Kirishima at 8:49 AM EDT on September 4, 2014
Does Mario Party not work for anyone else? I can listen to the other ones just fine, but I get no sound out of the first one. Using 64th note v1.2 beta 3 with winamp 5.666. Do I have to downgrade to a previous version of 64th note?

Can anyone check Derby Stallion P set and tell me if I'm the only one who thinks this game was scored by Koichi Sugiyama?
Sounds like something straight out of Dragon Quest.

Never seen Sugiyama credited with this game, but it does sound alot like his work. it's worth looking into, hmm.

EDIT: Interesting, even the instrumentation sounds like the synths Sugiyama uses.

Please accept this gracious offer.

Digimon World (1999-01-28)(Bandai)

Thanks to manako for the original set.

This set took me FOREEEVER to time/tag (the VGMTB Timer wasn't quite accurate).

See notes.txt for info.

Update on mario party issue: REally strange. I didn't even do anything, but the set works now... No need to change anything anymore.

Edit: The current rip seems to have an error, "64 Board Outro" is a duplicate of "04 Peaceful Mushroom Village". Used a hex editor to change on of the files into what I think it was supposed to be(forgot to edit tags): https://www.sendspace.com/file/t437fq

EDIT EDIT: Alright. Something is really broken with this rip or the plugin. It goes from not working, to working, then not working again.

The hoot rip of Megami Tensei PC-88 has strange titles and may have errors. Strangely, the X1 rip is correct.

Bright Morning -> Major II
Izanamiā€¦ -> Magnetic Magician
Romantic Hell -> A statuette of Loser
Yumiko -> Running star*
ゴーギャンの靴 -> ケルンの朝
Major II -> Si-Si-Si**
ケルンの朝 -> Over the moon***
Si-Si-Si -> イザナミ
Over the moon -> 女郎花
Magnetic Magician -> YUMIKO
A Statuette of loser -> ゴーギャンの靴
女郎花 -> Romantic hell*
Running Star -> Bright morning

*this is an assumption, as "Running Star" is a dupe of ROMANTIC HELL (in this version one plays faster than the other)...
**this track may be broken. it's supposed to loop (it's the boss theme); in the X1 rip it loops fine, but in the PC-88 rip it doesn't. it could be broken in the game itself, i don't know. btw this song is basically prototype for golden axe's battlefield, just like how starfox 64 boss is prototype for final fantasy x aeon boss
***this track may be broken. it's NOT supposed to loop (it's the game over jingle), but does for some reason

@Kirishima: My Mario Party set works fine, every time. Also your file sounds the same as the other Peaceful Mushroom village, and also crashes foobar every time I play it. Maybe your set is corrupted somehow.
by Kirishima at 1:11 PM EDT on September 18, 2014
@dogman91x Strange. It was supposed to be this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeMFr8m8mz8

Is your set the same as the one on the joshw site?

To cut a long ramble short, the 2 songs pointed to the same usflib and had the same hex value. I just used a song that pointed to a different usflib and kept the hex value.

About the crashing, ALL the songs crash for me regardless of my meddling. They will only work after some complicated running around with other file formats before starting this games things.

@Kirishima:
I have the one from here: http://usf.joshw.info/m/
I noticed your file has a dash in between the track number and the title in the filename, which seems to match the one from HERE: http://usf.hcs64.com/
Try downloading the one from the johw.info site and see if that helps. They seem to be different because the file sizes are slightly smaller with the joshw set.

I'm using Foobar with the latest LazyUSF plugin, all settings on Recompiler, and Fast Seek off. Never crashes with the joshw set. Your file seems to crash foobar every time though.

Also, if you can try hex editing the 'new' "64 Board Outro.miniusf" to play right that would be great! That still isn't fixed with this one.
by Kirishima at 12:33 PM EDT on September 19, 2014
I'm using winamp (latest last build before limbo) and the current usf plugin. One of those must be my problem... Anyway, I'm not experienced with usf ripping, I just tried out fumbling around with files in a hex editor since when I got the set to work and found a couple tracks were missing and 2 songs in the set played the same theme. I guess I should try out foobar.

Edit: I just tried out my fixed file in foobar and it works.

EDIDITDKDITNAKLIT: I just took a look at what I put up, and it was the WRONG file. OOPS. I shall correct this.... thing, word I can't seem to remember. Try this: https://www.sendspace.com/file/weyiz5

Aha, that file works, thanks. Replaygain indicates that it's a corrupted file though... you might want to redownload your set anyhow.

In Foobar you can also right click on a USF and edit the length and fade out time.
by Kirishima at 2:15 PM EDT on September 19, 2014
I'm not familiar with how foobar works, so what did you do to get replay gain to indicate that? I tried right clicking, replay gain/scan per-file track gain, and got no such message, but i did fix the file length issue.
by dogman91x at 11:55 AM EDT on September 20, 2014
Then nothing to worry about. It shows up in the peak information after scanning and doesn't let you update the tags.
by Kirishima at 1:24 PM EDT on September 20, 2014
You should use vgmtoolbox's xsf tag editor to change the tags to your liking.

Hi Knurek, are still sorting that huge contribution made by Alpha23 and splicing it with already enormous archives of sets courtesy of HCS team and some users here? Anyway I`ve already gotten quite a few questions piled up in my head so I think it`s finally time to ask them before they escape from there so here it goes:

1) Was original 2007 "Crackdown" (not "Crackdown 2" from 2010) as well as "WWE All stars" submitted in Alpha`s first bunch (not the most recent one)?

I`m simply interested in these two X360 rips and am just hoping that if any of them happens to be among the titles currently awaiting your approval and a pass to HCS`s own collection hosted on JoshW.info servers as of now then maybe you can process and upload them beforehand. Hope it`s not much of a hassle for you.

2) Were you the one who ripped and added "American chopper 2: Full throttle" for GC back in the day and even if it wasn`t you you should check all the incoming third party rips anyway, shouldn`t you? What particularly puzzles me is absence of entirely musical BIKs from "sound\cd" folder (a ripper shouldn`t miss them as all the same tracks but encoded in GC ADPCM and put into FSB containers are located right there and all those 29 compositions form up this rip). As I said each one of aforementioned 29 main ingame tracks is available in 2 different yet lossy encodes but the corresponding HCS set only includes FSBs and entirely overlooks BIKs. Was such a decision made because the latter ones were supposedly of lower overall quality or because of undexultiplexibility of Bink videos at that specific state (although demuxing shouldn`t be absolutely necessary in our case since each musical BIK holds a single audio track and no video data altogether; of course classic movies are a different matter so that I can understand their absence in the rip from JoshW.info).

So is answer to all his way simpler than I ever expected or did I guess all the background processing details correctly?

3) Do you take a separate game original lossless (CD) tracks requests? There has to be a FLAC, APE or at least TAK rip corresponding to each MP3 encoded version normally obtainable from archives. It`s just that I know one soundtrack to a PSX game using Redbook audio which is especially dear to my heart but both iterations of it I`ve ever possessed are MP3 compressed and that`s correct when talking about PSF archived ver. too.

So if I ask you kindly enough will you be able to post it in all its originality either here or in "The official streamed VGM distribution thread"? I believe I`m not asking too much with this one. Oh and of course I expect it to be on some side file hosting site since it shouldn`t fit into JoshW.info standards I guess.

4) And the last not the least. Remember me suggesting to put DLC titles in set names? Obviously I had no idea about maximum possible amount of them like in that Borderlands sequel example you made quite some time ago so it`s surely not too convenient to have them all listed like that. But right now I`m introducing a new and wiser solution instead of that earlier and way more awkward one: to either put a specific tag right after all the names a game is known under (something like (DLC) or (MP) & (XP) for older games) or add some additional line to a VG`s title between a name and a release year. The latter can be like "Borderlands 2 + DLCs (2012-09-17)...".

The only reason I care about it this much is because a theoretical consumer might be particularly looking for addons content but might easily miss them if current naming scheme is continued to be used. It`s just not so easy-to-guess with the current naming policies but it`s also possible I put too much thought into foreseeable troubles an imaginary archives user can get into...

Goodbye, I hope I didn`t bother you much with all these requests, propositions, initiatives and of course all this gigantic message.

The rip of Pac-Man World PSX seems to be missing the music for Far Out. It has Gimme Space as SLUS-00439_SCIFI2.genh which is almost the same, but missing a few instruments compared to Far Out. I'm glad to have finally found a rip after searching for so long, but Far Out is the main reason I was searching for one.
by Kirishima at 3:02 PM EDT on October 2, 2014
@Ultrafighter

Just a question for #3, if you wanted a soundtrack cdda soundtrack from a game, why not rip it yourself? If you own the game, it should be easily rippable if with something like WMP. If you have a disc image, make sure it doesn't contain fake lossless music with something like Neil Corlett's "Informer"

Posted this in the VGMstream thread, but perhaps it wasn't quite the correct place, in hindsight.

I'm using Winamp 5.66 3516. Updating to the latest VGMstream plugin is anyone else having issues with .FSB playback? I notice some sets, like LA Noire from the Josh W X360 archive are no longer working.

Last VGMsteam version it worked with: r1024.

@Knurek: Late news, but it does seems like Koichi Sugiyama composed for Derby Stallion (says so on his website)

He doesn't list what version or system he worked on, so it might have been an earlier title the PSP version is based on. If anybody can confirm the exact title(s) he worked on, that would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: seems like Derby Stallion P was by Manami Matsumae. (from the credits on Nico Nico)

In the progress of ripping PS1 Digimon World (with original driver), since the Davironica driver misses some notes on the old rip. I've got the driver and sound data ripped already. Just need to transfer some tags from the old set (wish there was an efficient way of doing this..)

For reference, I made an in-line rip of a track and compared it to the old/new PSF rips.

Inline rip ( from PS2 since my PS1 refused to play the disc I burned :( )

by Mouser X at 5:27 AM EDT on October 31, 2014
Nisto:
There is an easy way to transfer tags from one xSF set to another. There's a command-line program (I think ugetab wrote it?) that extracts xSF tags to a BAT file, which can then be run in conjunction with psfpoint to apply the old tags to a new set. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the program, and I don't have access to my PC right now to look ot up.... I'm sure Knurek has a copy of it though. It works on anything that uses xSF format tags. Mouser X over and out.

It's possible, but the game might end up using a custom format. That would require extracting the games sound driver, which would require r3000 assembly knowledge. Try using vgmtoolbox's "psf data finder" in any of the files in the game.

Something to contribute to the xbox archive.

Smashing Drive (NTCS-U): https://www.sendspace.com/file/gr3n64

All sound effects, but i seperated the music out anyway. All music (and most of the files) are xbox adpcm despite the wav extension.

I also have Silent Scope Trilogy, but the music is in xwb archives, so I'm not so sure if i should share them.

Has anyone ever heard of a "ConnectFile" .con format?
by Ultrafighter at 1:11 AM EST on December 6, 2014
Thanks for Smashing drive Kirishima.

As for CONs they may be those WAV / SGT containers I`ve encountered in at least 3 VGs for original Xbox (in case of one title they`re also used for PC port of that specific game). Keep in mind however that WAVs put inside your "ConnectFiles" might be typical Xbox ADPCM but can also be Microsoft ADPCM. The latter codec should only be utilized on PC platform however so I don`t think you`ve got to find such files in your CONs (given that we`re speaking about the same kind of container of course).

Bye!

Thanks for your input. I was asking about those archives because i wanted to extract audio from tenchu to compare to the ps2 version. I've tried genh them to see if they were xbox adpcm, but they weren't. closest was pcm, but there was still unwanted noise. Music itself for the game might be wma, since the exe had a bunch of those listed.
by Ultrafighter at 9:44 AM EST on December 6, 2014
If you`re really dealing with that specific kind of files I was talking about then there shouldn`t be any need for such in-depth methods, all the tracks / sounds contained in a CON should already be there with required headers and one has got to be able to extract them all with any generic file scanner which supports the most standard RIFF Wave type of header. Maybe this is what VGMToolbox does if to choose "RIFF style header" in its generic file cutter tab but I haven`t tested it yet.

Anyway good luck with your current and any future affairs. See you!

There are no riff headers in the file. It was one of the first things i checked for. I can only guess that these files might be encrypted.

Edit: Nevermind, there is some audio that is clear. but others range for audible to heavy static, and some are just plain mixed up.

Should I just post the 2sf files here in a 7z?

Goblet of Fire 2sf by Bonboon228 at 6:35 AM EST on December 16, 2014
Hey, has anyone here ever manage to successfully rip music from the NDS version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire? I tried ripping the 2sf files from the rom file, but when I try playing them in foobar200, I get an "Invalid 2sf" error.

What course of action do you guys recommend?
by Hiccup at 10:04 AM EST on December 16, 2014
@bonboon228
Try Mario Kart DS Course Modifier or VGMTrans.
Disregard my previous post... by Bonboon228 at 1:29 PM EST on December 17, 2014
I managed to rip the games SDAT and make a NCSF set from it. Lo and behold, it is a practically flawless set! I can now succesfully say, that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire NDS has been ripped. I shall soon be putting a zipped file containing the tracks, which I also custom named, on my Google Drive.
Cheers.

Lemme guess, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time on the Wii is also sequenced, just like the first one on GameCube? In fact, speaking of which, is there any way to get the MIDIs and soundfonts out of the game data and play it in foobar that way? At least if I could do that, I could loop them then, right?

Some of the Battlefield 2 Modern Combat ss2's play too fast. Anyway around this or is it a extraction issue?
by Ultrafighter at 7:39 AM EST on December 26, 2014
According to OrangeC this platform has its MP tracks encoded using multichannel ADPCM so that Alpha23 could indeed make a mistake assigning a header to probably headerless files (it`s his rip you`re talking about not anyone`s from HCS team). When I heard it for the 1st time I was also surprised by that fixed 5 or even 6 minute song length but somehow any kind of unwanted speedup slipped past my mind.

Anyway I ripped both remaining versions some time ago and can offer you material for playback speed comparison reasons. I don`t have all MP compositions with me but luckily I backed up complete rips in both cases. My favorites are 9 musics which are titled as the following in Alpha`s rip:

ARAB~INGAME2_2
CHINA~INGAME2_2
EUROPE~INGAME1_1
EUROPE~INGAME1_2
EUROPE~INGAME1_3
EUROPE~INGAME2_1
EUROPE~INGAME2_2
EUROPE~INGAME2_3
MENU_1

It`s not a hassle for me to upload these separately just for you and maybe it`ll be enough for you to figure out if faulty (?) XWAVs / XMAs sound faster than they should however I`m unsure if I edit any of those (I obviously mean their headers) in case you consider files ripped by me somewhat erroneous as well as those by A23.

Bye, I hope I was of some help here.

PS. Of course SS2s are open to any tuning any end user might need or simply saying every unsatisfied listener can change two specific bytes in file header that explicitly state frequency with which a track is played in a VGMStream powered player. To do so he`s got to open an audio file in any hex editor then compute a needed value using built-in conversion tools (44100 to AC44 for example) and finally go to 0xd and 0xc and paste AC & 44 (in our case obviously). I guess channel count is also simply editable but I don`t know what exact offset it`s located at.
by bxaimc at 7:47 AM EST on December 26, 2014
@Vittas

Last I remember a few years back, Echoes of Time was streamed. BRSTM iirc. Just no rip unfortunately. Yet.
by shrimp at 11:45 AM EST on December 26, 2014
@Ultrafighter Thanks. I just needed to change the frequency to 42000hz on 2 tracks.
by Ultrafighter at 12:28 PM EST on December 26, 2014
I`m glad you have it all sorted out now and I took part in it. BTW does it mean that only 2 tracks out of 25 were originally slightly sped up? And are those tracks normal ones or stingers / jingles / you get what I mean? Nonetheless I`m definitely not demanding an answer from you since I`m not overly curious.

Bye!
by shrimp at 1:50 PM EST on December 26, 2014
Oh weird. I only have 23 tracks (I deleted the other asf files as I think they were all voices).
The tracks that were sped up were (MP~ARAB) INGAME1_2.ss2 and (MP~CHINA) INGAME1_3.ss2 (coincidentally my 2 favorite tracks)

Thanks again!

Those ASFs (or SNGs) you got rid of so quickly are segments of fixed size which are used in highly interactive music system however these specific tracks can only be heard during walkthrough of a singleplayer campaign (yes the game has it in addition to multiplayer ;) ) so that if you didn`t feel like anything is missing after you listened through your manually reduced pack you probably don`t need SP MXs anyway ;) .

And you shouldn`t worry about amount of MP tracks as a respective music archive contains one file having just silence it it (Alpha23 most probably didn`t include it in the first place but I`m not certain about it ATM) and a duplicate of one pretty valid musical composition (don`t give it too much thought though as Knurek has obviously kicked it out before uploading Alpha`s rip to JoshW.Info but of course he kept one copy of the said file).

Cheers!

Sonic by Nibiko at 4:27 PM EST on January 2, 2015
Hey there,
Thank you to everyone who has helped to provide this!
I want to make a couple of notes regarding gcn/Sonic Mega Collection (2002-11-10)(Sonic Team)(Sega).7z and x360/Sonic CD [XBLA](2011-12-14)(Sonic Team)(Sega).7z:
In the former, it is missing music48a.adx, whereof music24a.adx is a downsampled version.
In the latter, the music from the videos (Bad Ending.wav, Good Ending.wav, Opening.wav, Pencil Test.wav) are .wav (.wav is unnecessary because the audio is .ogg), include only one stream of each video (each stream is necessary because there is a JP version and US version), and unnecessarily include silent "audio" from the pencil test video (the pencil test video is unnecessary because that doesn't even have an audio stream).
I've uploaded music48a.adx here and the Sonic CD 2011 videos audio streams here.

What??????
by Vittas at 10:34 PM EST on January 6, 2015
@bxaimc Thanks for the reply. Hopefully we'll see a rip soon, then. Is it not possible to do what I mentioned, though? I know the whole MIDI/sound font thing has been done with GBA, but most of those games are sequenced, right?
by bxaimc at 4:25 AM EST on January 7, 2015
Soneek has been working on a few experiments regarding that. Although it's only on games for gc that use MusyX for now. Maybe in the future. But yea, it should be possible. And he has been experimenting with current seq formats for 3DS and Wii/WiiU for C/R/F/Seq.

The Rumble Fish 2 DSF

Thanks to the work of darksoft64, I was able to make these dsf's. There were more msb/mpb's but half of the msbs seemed to be duplicates of the first twenty five, so the other mpbs might not be for music. Hopefully i got all of the ones that mattered.

Yup, but that rip is not complete, some themes are missing, specially all the song variations which forms the "Dive Into The Heart -Destati-" track
