I ask a lot of questions. So many that I often forget if I've asked some of them.

So in case I haven't asked it yet, prepare for another one.

Is it possible to rip those... WarioWare Inc tunes that aren't ripped (or weren't last time I checked)? They are played in the unlockable VS minigames, namely VS Chiritorie, VS Chicken Race, Vs Dong Dong and VS Hurdle. There maybe a few others as well.

Hi all..

I tried ripping music from Trine 3 and most music was ripped (were .wem extension but are in fact raw pcm). Some appear and play similar but contain lots of static..

Example of a file not working properly..
here

the file mentions riff in hex editor..
"RIFFÞ#G WAVEfmt"

Any ideas as old Trine games used ogg but T3 uses PCM raw 44100Hz and most work flawlessly

Thanks

Hi Reis, here's a VGMToolbox VFS Extractor plugin to extract the RPG Maker 3 data: https://www.sendspace.com/file/m3s3f8

CDIMAGE.TBL is the header file
RPGSP.DAT is the data file.

It will extract .IAB BGM files which are supported by vgmstream.

Any chance of seeing a Romancing SaGa (PS2) [Also called Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song] rip ever?
by Kirishima at 9:18 AM EDT on July 25, 2015
@Uikri

I was thinking of ripping the game a long time ago, but wasn't sure as to whether the music was streamed or sequenced. If sequenced, then I wouldn't be able to rip it.
Romancing Saga (PS2) by Sephirothkefka at 12:22 PM EDT on July 25, 2015
I took a look at the Romancing Saga files @Uikri and the layout of the files seems to be similar to FFX and KH. It has to be sequenced and there might be a PSF2 rip floating around somewhere...

Hello everyone, I'm wondering if Septerra Core rip has been done if anyone can answer.
by djDarkX at 12:59 AM EDT on September 26, 2015
Someone created an "OST" of Septerra Core somewhere, but I can't remember where. They ripped the individual music streams and connected them to make the OST. Might be able to Google it, if that helps.

Also, I found a discrepancy in the PSF archive. The music for Intelligent Qube is actually from Kurushi Final: Mental Blocks, the sequel to I.Q. If you want the XA files to the original game, I have them extracted and can provide them. Let me know!

@djDarkX- anything is better then nothing.

I suggest to fuse these SPC archives together:
- Satellaview BS-X (1995)(-)(Nintendo)
- SatesupuDX 4 (19xx)(-)(Nintendo)

SatesupuDX 4 uses a music bank from BS-X.
There are 4 music banks on BS-X, BS-X uses 3 of them, and the 4th is made for use for downloadable programs.

Well, if nobody minds, I'd like to make a few contributions of my own, starting with a few DS games I ripped after noticing most of these weren't present in the joshw archives:

-Bomberman 2 [Custom Battler Bomberman] (2008-12-04) (Hudson) (The Japanese version's rip is already available, but for some reason, I wasn't able to play any of the files in Winamp (though this is only speaking for myself, here). Therefore, I figured I'd rip the EU release instead, and this version's files play just fine for me.)
-Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Atsumete Henshin! 35 Sentai! (2011-11-17) (Natsume) (Bandai Namco Games)
-Kamen Rider - Dragon Knight (2009-11-17) (Natsume) (D3Publisher)
-Kamen Rider Battle - Ganbaride Card Battle Taisen (2010-07-29) (NATSUME ATARI Inc.) (Bandai Namco Games)
-Tokumei Sentai Go Busters (2012-09-27) (Aspect) (Cattle Call) (Bandai Namco Games)

^After doing a little digging, I can say for certain that Hiroyuki Iwatsuki did the music for all three Natsume-developed titles. :) Unfortunately, I couldn't find out who was responsible for the Go Busters game's tracks. Anyway, that's all for now. I definitely plan to upload some more stuff in the near future, though!

I know this sounds like a very weird request, but I think people should rip more SNSFs of perfectly SPC-dumpable games, as you have some at your OneDrive account (such as the Donkey Kong Country games), mostly just to compare, although there are some pretty broken SPC sets that SNSF wouldn't suffer from (such as this one: http://snesmusic.jukor.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1697&sid=694cf2c4035ff72e519997af90eaa1b6, which also has a few more wrong tracks than mentioned as well). Of course, thanks for the rip. The DVD drive on my PC died a few months back (if I want to watch DVDs/movies, I have to use my Wii now.... Or download a torrent....), so I haven't had any serious inclination to attempt rips recently. But definitely thank you for your efforts. Mouser X over and out.

by djDarkX at 3:43 PM EST on November 28, 2015
@rebooter23
That's the way they were rendered for the game itself. It's not a problem with the decoder or anything. Design choice by Nintendo, really.

I think it sounds pretty good. It's a bunch of different effects put together, mostly chorus, some delay, reverb and equalization effects all put together to give it a grittier sound, which I think works in its favor.

Deus Ex (2000-06-17)(Ion Storm)(Eidos)

This pack contains all the .umx music that was contained within the game. If you're using foobar2000, your best bet is to install the foo_dumb component.

Needless to say, it's impressive for an sequenced music file considering its architecture and audio quality compared to MIDI. In the PS2 version however, instead of remaking the .umx system into the console, the developers opted to convert all the umx files into streamed music and even opted to recompose the music. It is available on the psf2.joshw archive if you wish to compare them both.

.umx is just a Unreal package containing arbitrary data imported as internal objects within the game engine.

The actual format Deus Ex uses is ImpulseTracker. While Unreal and UT99 use a combination of Scream Tracker 3 and Impulse Tracker, Deus Ex strictly used only Impulse Tracker modules. It'd be nicer to archive Deus Ex's music as straight .IT files without them being wrapped around Unreal packages. It's not that hard to export files if you have the editor or anything that can pattern match IT modules. (like say for instance: Dragon Unpacker)

On top of that, non of the IT modules in Deus Ex use instrument control, only sample control. Which was done because the audio library that Unreal Engine 1.x was stuck with was really terrible handling IT instruments. (no NNA's and only the Volume envelope functions mostly)

@Nisto - That I can only consider if I'm not confused over whether sample(.VH/.VB) is appropriate for the sequenced file(.SEQ), but since I don't have the actual game I might as well chase it.

Other than that, yes, I'm both requesting and taking requests.

Also, are the xxx.joshw.info archives updated yet? Because there might be more rips in the future.

I doubt it's standard Sony SEQp.

And I've been asking myself and others the same thing. I asked in #usf the other day if anyone could update the archive (Josh himself seemed to be on there), but I got no answer. It doesn't seem to have been updated in nearly a year.
by AnonRunzes at 3:23 PM EST on January 10, 2016
Well, I couldn't find any PSF data(.VH., .VB, .VAB, .SEQ, .SEP) on one of the .DAT files that were contained within the first disc of the game, but I believe that said data might have some sequenced music.
Therefore I need a tool that extracts .DAT files of Konami games, especially Metal Gear Solid(the first game, not the sequel).

The joshw site hasn't been updated in months since knurek is likely more focused on the PMH site. The only archive that has been recently updated is the mdscene portion of hoot.joshw.info

On the psf side of unripped titles, Mortal Kombat Mythologies uses sequenced music. It doesn't use the standard sony formats however, so that's why it hasn't been ripped. Parasite Eve 2 also hasn't been ripped for similar reasons as Metal Gear Solid.

Actually, I haven't been doing anything period for the last few months.

Not really feeling it lately, sorry.
by AnonRunzes at 6:03 PM EST on January 11, 2016
Well then I have no choice but to list all rips that were made since last updates of the archives.

Although I don't feel like doing it as well...

Knurek - or someone else who has edited the release schedule for Portable Music History - could you please do me a favor?

I'm no good with spreadsheets in general, let alone online ones. Would it be possible to export a list (any human-readable format) that consists only of those Game Boy (Color) games which don't have any set available? Just a simple list of titles would do. Don't bother if it's a hassle.

Have anyone tried Xeno Saga 1-2 All I got was voice and movies samples. Well music as well but they all are all white noise sounding :).
by Knurek at 3:47 AM EST on January 21, 2016
@Dais!: Just open the release schedule, add a filter and select only the systems you're interested in and rows which have an empty '# of tracks' column.

Steins;Gate (PS3)

Mario Strikers Charged's looping points are pretty messed up. Can someone post a link to a better version please?
by AnonRunzes at 11:12 PM EST on January 27, 2016
Here is my ripping process list:

Deus Ex Human Revolution(PS3/Xbox 360/PC) - Status: COMPLETE(X360), 20% FINISHED(PC), PENDING(PS3)
-The archives that were conained within the game(BIGFILE.000-004, CACHE.000) were successfully extraced(using a tool that is part of the Gib's deusex3 toolkit), albeit not with their original filenames.
-Thanks to a .bms script I got from somewhere, all the .mul files are in the process of being converted into .xma. Then I will determine which one is actually a music composition and which is not.
-Actually, the rip will also include "ambience music", as well as everything else that isn't sound files for that matter. But I need to check everything else first.

-The PC version is also being considered for ripping. The archives were extracted succesfully, and the filenames(with the exception of a few ones) were intact in the process. So far, I extracted the .fsb files into .mp3 files(out of using an specific tool to remux these .mul files which is again, part of the Gib's deusex3 toolkit).

-The PS3 version is being postponed for an undetermined amount of time.

Beautiful Katamari(Xbox 360) - Status: COMPLETE
-Thanks to a new revision of AlphaTwentyThree's "XMA transform" script, now all the .nps files were succesfully converted into .xma.

That's it for now.

I've been looking for the longest time for a Stretch Panic (EU: Freak Out, JP: Hippa Linda) rip. Mind helping me out?
by AnonRunzes at 6:04 PM EST on January 31, 2016
@Master_E - Here it is:
Stretch Panic [Freak Out(EU), Hippa Linda(JP)](2001-07-27)(Treasure)(Swing! Entertainment)

The reason this release is very weirdly named is because I picked the US title as the main title section(as per joshw naming standard), then I took the rest of the localized titles after that. I then choose the date it was first released(it was released in an European region, then the American and Japanese releases followed suit), including the publisher that first released the game(the American and Japanese releases had different publishers).

@AnonRunzes Holy fucking shit.

I've searched every nook and cranny of every place they could possibly be for this. THANKS!

Also, Mario Strikers Charged is missing a whole bunch of songs like the character themes.
by Zeether at 4:57 PM EST on February 3, 2016
Is there a rip of the GameCube Rogue Squadron games' music or is that still not possible because of the MusyX audio? I've noticed that all 3 RS games have no directory entries.
by AnonRunzes at 7:28 PM EST on February 3, 2016
@Zeether - No one has been checking these files yet.

By the way, this is the 1000th post. What a way to celebrate the milestone, eh?
