Whats the status for 3DS format? by Soulis at 12:42 PM EDT on March 29, 2013
I still haven't found any XSF rips for this console and i was wondering if anyone is working on that. Sorry if this has been asked before recently...
by agu fungus at 1:10 PM EDT on March 29, 2013
Roms are not yet cracked. No 3DS format yet. Hope that answers your question.
by Knurek at 1:11 PM EDT on March 29, 2013
There will not be any progress on on either 3DS, Vita or WiiU until the encryption they use is cracked.

This may be done tomorrow, in 2025 or never, there's no way to determine that.

Expect the same deal with both PS4 and Durango.

lol
by dissident93 at 7:27 PM EDT on March 29, 2013
how long did it take for ps3, 360, wii, and DS encryptions to be cracked, btw?
by Soulis at 8:19 PM EDT on March 29, 2013
Thanks for the answers people.
by Benjamin at 4:33 PM EDT on March 30, 2013
Alright, you, how is this necessary? I should report you to HCS if I have to!
by TheUltimateKoopa at 1:00 AM EDT on March 31, 2013
How is WHAT necessary? If you think this topic is unnecessary, you're a troll. This whole site is, basically, about game rips... generally speaking.

Therefore, asking if/when/how far the 3DS audio format is to being cracked is VERY necessary.

And DON'T threaten to report people for no reason.

*ahem* Well, TUK, there WAS a spambot here earlier, no mistake; I even wrote a topic about it in a slight bit of anger. Good thing someone cleaned up its droppings soon after. In short, nothing to see here, move along...
by WrappedInBlack at 12:33 AM EDT on April 14, 2013
3DS uses .CWAVs and .CSARs. The later seeming to be .BRSARs.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:43 PM EDT on April 14, 2013
So.... :P How long until we can hear MK7's Rainbow Road without engine noises? :P

I assume we'll have a 3ds.joshw.info, when we get enough rips?
by dj4uk6cjm at 3:25 AM EDT on April 15, 2013
Brsars again?? Oh no...lol well thanks for the info black.
by Lunar at 5:55 AM EDT on April 15, 2013
it takes as long as it takes, I guess. we just have to be patient.
by bxaimc at 11:53 PM EDT on April 17, 2013
Not to rain on his parade but we've had preliminary support for CWAV in vgmstream for a while now :P
by Soulis at 6:24 AM EDT on April 22, 2013
Wow TUK, probably the one and only reason i can't wait for the format to be cracked is the classic Rainbow Road music on MK7... The new instruments make it even better than the original :D

But these engine noises....
by TheUltimateKoopa at 7:39 PM EDT on April 22, 2013
Well there are some pretty good tunes on the 3DS games I have. With certain games, e.g. Kid Icarus: Uprising, Star Fox 64 3D, Ocarina of Time 3D, and Pilotwings Resort, for example, they have official soundtracks released, but as I said before somewhere else, sometimes you're playing a game, and don't really pay attention to the music that much, unless it's notable, but then you hear it with headphones on, with no soundeffects, and think "Wow, this is actually pretty good".

Like with the modern MK7 Rainbow Road theme... with the current line-in recordings, the quality isn't that good. Apart from the SFX and stuff, it sounds like it was recorded through an old radio, and lacks any form of proper bass sound. I'm sure it'd sound much better, and much clearer, with much more bass, if it was a direct rip and not a line-in recording. Having said that, certain line-in recordings can sound pretty good quality, for example...
Super Mario 3D Land: Beach
Super Mario 3D Land: Snow

TUK: They probably lack bass because the original files in the game lack bass. The composers chose to optimize the music to the speakers and not speakers AND headphones.

Just played the game with headphones, no bass on either of the Rainbow tracks. If you're lucky, they EQ:ued it in code and the files are bass heavy but with Nintendo.. I highly doubt it. They usually take the shortest route possible.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:42 PM EDT on May 4, 2013
So, the 3DS (CTR) formats are like the Wii (RVL) formats, except with a 'C' instead of 'R'? E.g.
BRSTM - BCSTM
BRSAR - BCSAR
BRRES - BCRES
RWAV - CWAV?
by WrappedInBlack at 12:02 PM EDT on May 27, 2013
pretty much... Need to find out how to rip fast, I need the Dark Moon music.
Since It's a Mario game, they probably won't release an OST.
by peronmls at 2:56 PM EDT on May 29, 2013
I know ocarina of time 3D either uses sequences or something like AIX. Because I was playing in the fire temple and i was getting near an enemy and the battle music came on but it was only the 16th note snare part playing, nothing else. It was kinda funny. Sometimes I can hear the other horn instruments in the background but very very faintly.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:13 PM EDT on May 29, 2013
Well some games probably use sequences, others probably use streams.

I mean, take Super Mario 3D Land's "Beat Block" theme (or whatever the heck it's called)... I swear almost EVERY time you enter the level, the tune plays differently. It has the basic drum beat, and 'beep' sounds that are always playing, but then it has those odd patterns, which play in a random order, and as I said, so random, that the order can be different every time you play it. Now that to me, sounds sequenced.
by Benjamin at 4:33 PM EDT on May 30, 2013
It's actually sound effects playing at random, as if you use the P-Wing, no music plays. However, the beat only plays if you use a Star, but the music does not stop when the SMG2 Teleporter theme is playing in that game, and it doesn't seem to reverb like most other songs, so I'm suggesting that's sequenced too. I'm also suggesting the Star and Athletic themes are sequenced too, as I don't hear any reverb on them, but I hear them with the P-Wing.

I'm also suggesting this game uses streams because it plays an exact replica of the SMG2 Cosmic Clone theme.

Super Mario 3D Land is definitely sequenced, it sounds way too flat to be anything else.
by Benjamin at 9:05 PM EDT on May 30, 2013
Maybe most of the tracks are sequenced, but we won't know unless we hack the game. Which, for the squillionth time, probably won't happen anytime soon.

Also, I didn't mean that it was orchestrated. I know it isn't. But I hear samples I never hear in a sequenced track that isn't streamed into the game.

I just noticed this:

http://www.brawlcustommusic.com/game/766

So, how did they rip the music?
by peronmls at 11:31 AM EDT on June 26, 2013
@Soulis
TheUltimateKoopa is a member of this forum. Im not sure how he did it. Some of them you can still hear the engine.
by dj4uk6cjm at 11:42 AM EDT on June 26, 2013
Line-In recording.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 6:40 PM EDT on June 26, 2013
Exactly. For the ones I did, I didn't record them myself, but I got them from a download link in a YouTube video. I forget who it is.

For New Super Mario Bros 2, I got them from CSK2E I think.
