homebrew Dracula X: Rondo of Blood ADX files by JILost at 11:25 PM EST on March 10, 2006

I created these out of boredom, experimentation, and curiousity as to how the songs would sound looped "properly" (like the SNES versions, mostly) and indefinitely. I didn't upload to the tracker because I wasn't sure if homebrew-ish things like this were kosher, but I figured the in_cube crowd might enjoy something new, so here they are. Enjoy.
Note: I also included in_cube itself since the rar is being linked to on other sites. I'm sure none of you need it, but that's why I included it.
Cool! If you're able to host them, that's great, but if you need the tracker you're welcome to use it. Including in_cube is somewhat standard practice, though I'm undecided on whether or not it's a good idea (on one hand it cuts down on the number of people asking how to run it, on the other hand the included plugin can become out of date, like some of the 0.7 and earlier ones included with the torrents). Also, I just now realized that the dates in the history document don't go to 2006... I went from December 2005 to January 2005.
It's not so much a matter of -needing- to use the tracker as it is a matter of wanting to put the files somewhere that people (like me) probably check every once in a while a will see, as well as just getting them out to the community and getting them heard. But thanks, I'll likely upload the torrent some time tonight.
Out of curiosity, and since I'm not too familiar with the format, I see that the file size for these tracks are comparable to MP3s. Were the original waveforms trimmed beyond the loop point to save space?
I kinda wonder if I should play with this format also...
Hey, JILost, is the site you linked that ADX archive from maintained by you? If so, I'd appreciate it if you could answer a couple of questions I have about the C&C games' tracks listed in it (most important of which being, how it's even possible for those scores to exist in ADX format when RA2 and YR were never even ported to any console :s). I'd also have some input on those games to offer (proper play times info) myself, being somewhat of a chronic collector of Frank Klepacki's C&C music since '95.
SquareTex: Yeah. I ripped the CD audio to wav, determined the loop points, and chopped off the data after the loop end point, possibly leaving a sample or two extra. ADX files are pretty large--most of the files are as large for one loop as MP3 files are for two, three, or whatever number the CD tracks contained origianlly. But when you consider the indefinite nature of ADX files, a few extra MBs for 12 extra loops of each song aren't so bad.
Prokopis: I think you're thinking of the site hcs linked in his response to my thread. However, the Rondo of Blood files I put up originally were only CD audio originally, so they were never on a console in that sense, either. Anything that can be made into a .wav file can be encoded to ADX with the right software. That's what I did--rip the CD audio to wav, find the loop points, and input them into the ADX encoder with the wav file. Even "real" music could be done this way.
The site HCS linked, the rar you posted, same place anyway. I know ADX is a direct wavetable sound format equivalent, so my last post was just me wondering how/why those tracks ended up there as ADXes. Ah well, probly just a test or something...
BTW, no C&C track ever looped; they were all straightforward pieces.
Actually, the rar I posted is on my own webspace and the link hcs posted is something entirely different.
They probably ended up there as ADX files by someone recording/ripping them to wav and encoding to ADX. They ended up there as ADX because...well, I don't know. I guess, like me, someone just wanted to have the music in ADX format. I'm not intending to come off as rude with this post, just saying that while ADX files mostly appear in console games, ADX is just another wave format and thus, anything can appear in it. My Rondo things were in ADX because of the looping feature. Don't know about the ones on hcs's link.
