PSP .sgd/.sgb/.sgh by Ryuji at 1:36 PM EDT on October 23, 2013
Will there be vgmstream support for these files? I ran into them after I tried to rip Sarugetchu: SaruSaru Daisakusen. Some PSP games use this instead of .at3. I tried to research some information on these files and I couldn't really find anything.

Here is a .sgd sample:

Those are just containers for .at3 or .vag files, you can extract them using VGMToolbox.

Since I'm pretty new to this, how exactly would I do that?
by Knurek at 2:09 AM EDT on October 24, 2013
TBH, if you need to ask, you're better off downloading the set from PSP Music Archive
by Ryuji at 12:56 PM EDT on October 24, 2013
That's completely skirting around the issue though. What knowledge there is to be potentially gained is lost. I want to learn how to do these things myself so that I don't have to ask in the future. Think of the saying: give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.
by Knurek at 1:58 PM EDT on October 24, 2013
You have the rod (VGMToolbox), you know what types of fish to fish for (Atrac3 or VAG), what more do you need?
by Ryuji at 6:02 PM EDT on October 24, 2013
you are really not helping at all. For future reference, don't say anything at all if you dont intend to help. Your first response was good though.
by dag at 5:20 PM EDT on November 1, 2013
Do note that some .sgd files (ex. Kurohyo 2) mark and play the files as 48000hz, while the at3 header still says 44100 (max official rate?).
by Ryuji at 12:11 AM EDT on November 2, 2013
Appreciate the response dag, but I've already gotten help from manakoat thru skype, he was kind enough to explain how to extract them.

No thanks to that useless sack of shit Knurek.

Wow, you're a jerk, huh.
by Ryuji at 4:05 AM EDT on November 2, 2013
I will call an idiot an idiot, and I will call a nice person a nice person.

I specifically asked how to extract the files, to which Knurek moronically replied that I should just download from the PSP archive(which btw was an incomplete rip!). I'm not going to settle for that and that's definitely not what I asked for. A person can be given a car to drive, but what the fuck does that matter if you haven't driven before? A person can be given the tools and equipment to build a house, but what the fuck does that matter if you never built one before? A person can have skis, but what the fuck does that matter if you haven't skied before? My point is, was I given the information I wanted? No. Not even when I asked POLITELY. So pardon me for my extreme displeasure with knurek. I'm certainly not sorry for what I said.

What I'm saying is, if you discard the original .sgd and just extract the .at3 the files could play at the wrong speed.

Second post ITT.

download from the PSP archive(which btw was an incomplete rip!)

If it's missing any files compared to the game, it's because they are dupes from previous Ape Escape games. Loads of PSP games reuse music like that, I see no point in including it - bandwidth and server space aren't infinite.
by Ryuji at 12:09 PM EDT on November 2, 2013
@dag, they all play correctly.

@knurek

SHUT THE FUCK UP. seriously. You didnt explain HOW to extract the files. Are you selectively stupid or something?
Secondly there is no reused music in that game. All of it was exclusive to Daisakusen. That's the reason why I wanted to rip it to begin with.

I was gonna see if I could try to help, but the sendspace file is gone... In vgmtoolbox, I have no idea how to extract at3's with it but for vag you could try using the advanced cutter under Misc Tools\Extraction\Generic... There are 3 different vag settings, pick one then click load and drag the archive into the box labeled "files to search". If this wasn't of any help or if you already knew how to do this, then I apologize for wasting your time.
by Ryuji at 11:56 PM EDT on November 2, 2013
I deleted the sendspace link as soon as it become obvious Knurek wasn't going to help. But like I said earlier, manakoat already me helped me out with the extraction. Let me explain to you how he told me so that nobody ever has to have the misfortune of enduring unhelpful fucks like knurek who give the worst possible responses in order to troll.

Ok, to extract .at3 files from .sgd's, open up vgmtoolbox. You'll need to use the simple cutter tool. VGMToolbox>Misc. tools>Extraction tools>generic>Simple cutter. Like that. Now open your .sgd file with a hex editor. Look for the string 'RIFF'(use find function to make it easier). Once you find that, take note of its offset and insert that value into vgmtoolbox. That needs to be in the 'start address' box. Make sure 'single file mode' is checked. Then set it to 'end of file'. Type in the name of your file and also set the 'output file extension' to .at3. Now you can begin extraction, so click 'cut file'. Done. You have an .at3 file. You can also use the 'advanced cutter' tool for more than one file. Look under the presets and select 'Riff Style Header'. Then drag and drop your files and select an output folder(recommended since vgmtoolbox will create a folder for each file, which we don't want.) Now cut them. That's it, you're done. Easy peazy.
Hopefully this solves the issue for any other people who come across .sgd files. This was absurdly easy to do and it's infuriating why knurek was either too dumb or lazy to explain any of this is beyond me.
by Kirishima at 10:01 AM EST on November 3, 2013
Oh okay, I had suspected it was the riff setting but what I tested it with didn't work, lol.
by Ryuji at 12:51 PM EST on November 3, 2013
what went wrong? I would've given screenshots in my last post but I already deleted the iso and the .sgd files.
by Kirishima at 12:59 PM EST on November 3, 2013
I was just testing some dumb idea I had in my head... It involved an at3 from Vampire\Darkstalkers Chronicles and 7zip. Of course it ended up not working.
