XMA integration into vgmstream? by Kurausukun at 1:19 AM EDT on July 13, 2014
Is it possible/would someone be willing to do it? I know looping wouldn't exactly work, but if vgmstream could at least decode the streams I think it would be convenient. I know it would be for me, at least.

Further discussion should be directed at merging parts of ffmpeg into vgmstream, or vice versa.
by bxaimc at 4:26 AM EDT on July 14, 2014
Never.

I vote for merging vgmstream into ffmpeg.
by Kurausukun at 1:34 PM EDT on July 14, 2014
I was only talking about XMA specifically, since it's a (somewhat) commonly used format on a popular console. It just seemed like a gaping hole of sorts in the support list. I don't know how this turned into an ffmpeg discussion :/
by hcs at 6:34 AM EDT on July 15, 2014
Because that's where the xma support would come from.

I'm all for an effort to move vgmstream support into libav and/or ffmpeg, but I'm not likely to be the one to do it.

bx, why so opposed?

i'm for vgmstream support into libav and/or ffmpeg

hcs: afaik you're the only one who's gotten pretty far as to how xma really works (apart from the russians). sure, ffmpeg has the supporting libraries but giving it the right instructions to decode the stuff is the missing link.

Seems like ffmpeg has a better long term potential lifetime than vgmstream. Not sure how hard it'd be to integrate into though or setup a dev environment if I ever wanted to add more metas.
by bxaimc at 7:01 AM EDT on July 17, 2014
vgmstream 2.0 anyone? Maybe as a standalone player?
by Knurek at 7:14 AM EDT on July 17, 2014
Please no, winamp/XMPlay/foobar plugins are sufficient.
by Kurausukun at 7:26 AM EDT on July 17, 2014
I'm fine with just the foobar plugin, which is extremely convenient both for playing and converting files, and viewing the properties of them.
by DrO at 8:10 AM EDT on July 17, 2014
the Winamp plug-in could do converting if only it was implemented in the plug-in... though i doubt if i were to try winampifying the plug-in it wouldn't go down well.

Or you could just make XMA decoder a separate plugin. There's absolutely no reason to not implement it in that case.
by richardpl at 9:59 AM EST on November 7, 2015
Latest ffmpeg supports mono and stereo xma1 and xma2.
by Kurausukun at 4:12 AM EST on November 9, 2015
But there isn't a foobar plugin for it, is there?
by richardpl at 5:27 AM EST on November 9, 2015
Ask foobar devs.

Does ffmpeg support looping (for any format, not just XMA)? I typically use it via Media Player Classic for ATRAC3, but it doesn't loop. Wasn't sure if it's due to ffmpeg or MPC.
by Kurausukun at 12:25 PM EST on November 9, 2015
I'm not too well-informed on ffmpeg, but I don't think so.
by richardpl at 2:52 PM EST on November 9, 2015
FFmpeg can export looping data that is available for format via metadata, than its player responsability what it will do with it.
