ik the music has been ripped but can the sounds and voice be ripped? I wanna put the hit sounds from Smash 4 into Brawl and PM.
by Franpa at 5:24 PM EDT on September 18, 2014
Basically the only way the game can be playing the music better than how VGMStream plays it is if the game is actively applying some kind of audio effect to the music as it is being played, which would be an interesting way to discourage extracting the audio files from the ROM data (Until someone figures out how to emulate the audio filter).
by octopus at 5:25 PM EDT on September 18, 2014
Hey, @Team Fail, did you manually tag all the TFF music? I have decrypted TFF: CC, all the names are in plain text, but I’m a little bit too lazy to name 224+ files.
by Team Fail at 5:04 AM EDT on September 19, 2014
@octopus I did manually tag them, yes. I might do the same with TFF:CC, but there's A LOT in there. I did also just purchase the game last night, but yeah. It might come at a later time, plus I can't get the DLC in that game yet, either. My initial dump "has" the DLC in it (That's actually from CC).

So how for one acquire the access to the files from a 3DS card?
by Master_E at 11:21 AM EDT on September 19, 2014
It's funny that someone else is requesting Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move Universe. Because I would like a rip too!
by nothingtosay at 4:28 PM EDT on September 19, 2014
I think the effect people suspect is applied to the Super Smash Bros. isn't actually an effect at all. I'm pretty sure it's technically bad resampling, but in this case the distortion it causes is subjectively pleasing.

When you upsample from a lower rate to a higher one, harmonics are generated at frequencies above the content of the music. So for SSB, the streams use a 20 kHz sampling rate, which means the highest frequency sound possible in them is 10 kHz (the highest possible sound frequency recorded is half of the digital sampling rate of the data). Resampling produces harmonics greater than 10 kHz and a good resampler is supposed to filter those out. A recording of the line out from the 3DS reveals that it has frequencies up to about 15 kHz, an impossibility with the original streams. My theory is that the 3DS doesn't filter all the harmonics, but, because the sampling rate of the original audio is so low, those harmonics are easily within the audible range and give the line out more treble.

If you use foobar2000, you can try out kode54's MultiResampler in conjunction with equalization to simulate the sound. In the resample quality dropdown list, choose any one but sinc interpolation and the harmonics won't be filtered. You can use EQ on the frequencies above 10kHz to control the volume of the harmonics. I find cubic interpolation to give the closest result, and with EQ I've made it sound close.
by Espyo at 5:59 AM EDT on September 20, 2014
All right, I solved my Winamp problem. I had in_cube installed, and it was causing some conflict with in_vgmstream.
by Franpa at 2:10 AM EDT on September 21, 2014
If you install In_cube than rename the DLL file to something like In_ZCube.dll as this will ensure it loads last. That way VGMStream takes priority for file types it supports and anything it doesn't support, will get handled by In_Cube.
by Vittas at 7:30 AM EDT on September 21, 2014

First off, I want to thank everyone for the amazing work.
And secondly, I have two requests (If I may?).

Could anybody try ripping Medarot 7 and/or Doctor Lautrec? I'm not sure about Lautrec, but I'm certain Medarot 7 isn't sequenced. Well, almost.

Thank you.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's possible to rip from eShop games as well, correct? If so, I would like to know if it's possible for the following games to be ripped:

-Bloody Vampire
-Accel Knights 2: Full Throttle
-Majin Shoujo: Chronical 2D act (aka Legend of the Dark Witch, which is supposed to be released in the US later this month)

That is all I'd like to ask. Thanks in advance for any answers!

There's one sequence in there that's the same as one from X&Y, and it's nothing special. I'm working on creating soundfonts for some stuff, so hopefully I can release some finished crap soon. I'll release an updated CSEQ to MIDI converter as well, with both CSEQ and RSEQ support, and possibly FSEQ whenever it's possible to get Wii U files more easily.

Is it possible to rip streams from The Denpa Men 2, The Denpa Men 3, and the Japan-only DenpaNingen Free?
by 54634564 at 4:45 PM EDT on October 15, 2014
@Lumpytoad, the Denpa Ningen game doesn't have a ROM yet, so can't do that.

But here are the files for Denpa Men 1, 2, and 3:

Looks like the music for 2 and 3 is in BCSTMs, but 1 looks like it's sequenced.

Tracks seem to be missing from the Fire Emblem Awakening rip; most obviously, the only map themes present are Id (Purpose)/MAP_10 and Don't Speak Her Name/MAP_11. There may be other missing tracks, but the track naming tipped me off to this one. It also doesn't have any of the DLC tracks, but I don't know what the community standard (if any) is for handling DLC rips.
by MurraySkull at 9:29 PM EDT on October 26, 2014
Also, multiplayer tracks are missing from Star Fox 3D.
by soneek at 5:57 AM EDT on October 27, 2014
We don't have the DLC files, so that's a no-go for now.

I have converted MIDIs of the multiplayer tracks from Star Fox 64 3D if you want them, though I don't have a soundfont yet.

Big shoutout to Robotortoise for noticing this, but the K.K. songs from Animal Crossing: New Leaf work with the sound bank ripped from Wild World. The newer sound samples might be a little cleaner, but for now this is pretty cool.

Banner + music files for the new Shantae game:
http://www19.zippyshare.com/v/44539643/file.html

These vol files were originally zlib compressed with a 16 byte header(4 bytes '50 F0 77 D1', 4 bytes '01 01 00 00', 4 bytes compressed size, 4 bytes decompressed size), then the raw compressed data.

I see the strings 'vorbis' and 'OggS' in them, so it looks like they're Ogg files. Just need someone to extract them. Too lazy to mess around with it myself.

by 54634564 at 3:57 PM EDT on October 28, 2014

Can anyone try to get the Luigi's Mansion .bnk files to play properly?
by RetroFanatic at 5:10 AM EST on November 2, 2014
Is there any chance that someone could fetch me the original sound files from Pokémon X & Y? I'd like to be able to loop/extend the songs myself and that's not possible with the ones in the already uploaded archives.

At least not from what I know of. I'd prefer not to have to rely on some brstm files as those are not usually as clean as the source material.
by soneek at 5:48 AM EST on November 2, 2014
The brstms on BCM are cleaner than the source material, since we made those from the soundtrack release. The source material from the actual game is crap, and we haven't bothered digging for loop data in the game's files. The AAC files in the uploaded archive are what they use in the game.
by kittenkat at 1:38 PM EST on November 2, 2014
Adventure Time Hey Ice King Why'd you steal our garbage apparently uses a slightly different compression. The header shows "00 01 00 00" instead of "01 01 00 00"

Think you can make the script work for these too?

Here's a file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/10102vpimvqmeci/music_m_battle_victory.vol?dl=1
by 54634564 at 2:37 PM EST on November 2, 2014
Don't feel like changing the script and re-uploading, but just change:
zlib.decompress(compressedData[16:], -15)
to:
zlib.decompress(compressedData[16:], 15)
For those files.

The music in that file isn't in the ogg format like the other games. Don't know what format it is.
