Great work!

OH GOD YES.
This is a great day indeed.

Can't wait for the MK8 and Smash rips (if someone gets to them) :D
by starerik at 8:04 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
YEEES! Been waiting for Nintendo Land since the launch. Thank you so much.

Uh... how are we supposed to get it if we can't rip it yet? Is there something I've been missing?
by bxaimc at 9:43 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
There's a link at the bottom of the first post. Patience is key. crediar has the throne now.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 9:58 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
I'm with Segtendo. I can't wait for Mario Kart 8, or Smash Wii U.

OK, obviously we're being er... what's the word... not literal. Obviously we don't literally mean "we have absolutely no level of waiting skill of capability whatsoever" :P

Just making sure... I just noticed NSMBU appeared. Do files appear after they START uploading, are after they FINISH? I don't want to end up downloading a half-uploaded file :P

Wait I downloaded the 272 MB Super Mario 3D World.rar and it said the archive was corrupt. That was about 10-15 minutes ago. But then I redownloaded it in case it wasn't fully uploaded, and it's still 272 MB... either I somehow downloaded it when it was 99.9999% complete and had like 1 second left or ... it's corrupt?

And speaking of MK8, it's in that directory right now.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:21 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
OK this is stupid. Two files I've downloaded. BOTH are, to quote WinRAR "either in unknown format or damaged".

What am I (not) doing wrong?
by crediar at 10:22 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
I move them into that dir once the upload is done.

I'm using RAR5 you might need to update your rar tool.

You need WinRAR 5.0 or greater.

by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:24 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
Good point. I have WinRAR 4.00 beta 7. :P
by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:26 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
I'm just downloading the latest version (5.2 beta 1)... well, I say downloading. I mean "I downloaded it, clicked the exe, and .... nothing's happening, because sometimes Windows 8.1 likes to not do anything when you click an exe, and then ... it just comes up, just as I typed... this exact thing I'm typing lol"

OK, it works.

There are four files in Super Mario 3D World that don't work though. They are called:

Redc_bgm_Circus.my.32.dspadpcm.bfstm
Red_bgm_Circus_fast.my.32.dspadpcm.bfstm
STM_RC_BGM_PDOREMI.bfstm
STM_RC_BGM_PDOREMI_FASTM.bfstm

I'm really not getting the hang of this now.

NSMBU contains NOTHING but a single file... is this right?

Also, can Vector Harbor's "Hyrule Warriors" BRSTMs be rejected now, soneek?

Congratulations. We have 10 channel Nintendo streams now!
by TheUltimateKoopa at 10:50 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
Which ones? And as mentioned earlier, what am I supposed to do with the NSMBU rip? It's literally a single >200 MB ".bfsar" file, nothing else.

Is there anything for Foobar to play these?
by soneek at 11:42 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
There will be soon. I'm working on the FWAVs for NSMBU. It's similar to Super Paper Mario in which the playback rate for the file varies in-game.
by shrimp at 11:46 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
Excellent! Thanks.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 11:59 AM EDT on October 18, 2014
You know what really annoys me? When the streams are too quiet, so you have to mess around manually amplifying each one. It's not as simple as "converting to BRSTM", if the purpose is not simply to "make a BRSTM", but "to make a BRSTM that is loud enough to be inserted into a game that uses BRSTMs, e.g. SSBB, that is of a suitable volume".
by soneek at 12:00 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
The topic is Wii U music, not converting it to insert into other games.

Hyrule Warriors is another format type, so it'll be looked into soon.
by MurraySkull at 12:24 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
The link for .bfstm vgmstream seems to be down.
by starerik at 12:25 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Hm, I get "Error creating SoundBuffer" in Winamp, trying to play some Nintendo Land files. The ones called BGM_BLF_MAIN. Using Winamp v5.666 using the latest vgmstream posted here.

Winamp won't play any songs with more than 4 channels I believe.
by MurraySkull at 12:58 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
So, then how do we play those songs?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 1:01 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Convert them to WAV, and then... mess around by making separate WAVs for each possible variation, by removing channels, and mixing channels into 2-channel (stereo) streams?

Also, I know that soneek. I was just saying it's a little annoying :P
by MurraySkull at 1:19 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
How do I convert them to .WAV?
by starerik at 1:28 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
With test.exe, read the readme.txt that came with the vgmstream rar how to use it.
by bxaimc at 1:47 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Actually, the number of channels playable depends if your sound card can support mixing for that number. Mines can only do up to 6 for example.
by MurraySkull at 2:48 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Mine too.

Any updates on NEW Super Mario Bros. U?
by TheUltimateKoopa at 3:00 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
I just use Winamp with the DiskWriter plugin, OR foobar and just... right click, Convert, etc.
by Kurausukun at 3:36 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Wow, this is totally awesome. How did we suddenly manage to do this?
by dissident93 at 4:03 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
@Kurausukun: I think people have had the ability to get the music for awhile, but IDK why all of a sudden it's ok to post them here now :P
by Kurausukun at 4:08 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
OK, so I try to open 3D World, and 7-zip tells me it "can't open it as an archive." Is the file bad?

EDIT: Also, is there a foobar plugin for that .bfstm vgmstream build?

edited 9:17 PM EDT October 18, 2014
by TheUltimateKoopa at 4:17 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Kurausukun? Don't use 7-zip. Use WinRAR 5.0 (or above)...

Also... if Segtendo ever reads this, I've uploaded all the remaining Final Lap versions, i.e. except Cloudtop Cruise, (but not the frontrunning versions of said final lap versions), as well as any streams that were 2-channel streams, such as all fanfares, results, etc. I also updated a few.

I could post this in Smash Boards as well, I suppose (which I will)... just as soon as it's fixed... I sure hope it's not one of them sudden "every Smash Bros site on the internet has a DDoS attack at once" that happened about 2 years ago...

Yeah I know... this topic....

edited 9:25 PM EDT October 18, 2014
by Kurausukun at 4:24 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
What if I hate WinRAR? 7-zip is arguably the best freeware archive opening program, why can't it open these files? Also, why are we making RAR files that apparently can only be opened by certain programs? Also, that foobar bfstm thing.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 4:43 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Because we are?

Also, those 4 files from Super Mario 3D World that don't play....

And I don't mean they have some kind of buffering error or something weird. With the 6-channel+ streams, although they don't play in Winamp, you can still convert them to WAV with Winamp, and they have a 'length'. The 4 in question, simply have no length at all, as if they aren't even audio files at all, and just they are just ignored.

And no foobar AFAIK, yet.

edited 9:49 PM EDT October 18, 2014
by Benjamin at 4:48 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
I think the four files are the Color Panel Challenge and Circus themes - Not sure though, as Color Panel Challenge doesn't have a fast version.

They're the two tracks in this game that use multiple loops.
by Kurausukun at 4:51 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
I know there's no foobar bfstm plugin yet... I was kind of bugging someone to integrate it into vgmstream because it's way more useful and convenient that way than having a command-line tool. Also, one last question before I shut up (for now); what are those two-channel percussion tracks in MK8 used for? I thought they played while you were in first place, but I just tested it on-console and didn't hear it, unless it doesn't work in vs. races and is GP exclusive or something...

by TheUltimateKoopa at 5:59 PM EDT on October 18, 2014

Waiting for that too, as there are tracks that cannot be recorded.
by WrappedInBlack at 8:04 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
how do I convert g1l files?
by bxaimc at 8:12 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
As of right now, they're unplayable. We're trying to get it working but it's just a weird format to begin with since it doesn't follow your typical dsp spec.

Pikmin 3 is a dream come true. 8-channels and I have complete control over them to mix them as I please, mwahaha! It sounds glorious too. Truly fantastic. I haven't even dug into anything else yet. Thanks a lot for these rips.
by (!!!!!) at 9:44 PM EDT on October 18, 2014
Hooray for all these wonderful Wii U audio dumps!

The g1l files are some form of 16-bit PCM, i can get them to play somewhat in audacity but the actual audio is low and is mostly distorted.

sample mp3: (beware loud distortion, put down the volume, listen carefully and you can hear the TLOZ theme playing behind the noise)
https://app.box.com/s/h6cyp1cneimbdk5wkxeg

NSMBWiiU uses BFWAVs which play oddly with vgmstream. I'm guessing stereo and multi-channel BFWAVS are improperly interleaved.

BFWAV fixed. Should be in the official and foobar2000 builds soonish. This build should work with everything so far aside from 4 of the SM3DW tracks. Slightly different type of format.

by Benjamin at 5:06 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Beep Block Skyway is unfortunately sequenced.

I think the other two nonplayable tracks might be the Color Panel Challenge theme.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 5:24 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
I assume the special "Link" and "Mario" tunes that play when you complete certain colour panel challenges are sequenced too?
by MurraySkull at 5:36 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Those could be what those unplayable files actually are, if they are in fact Color Challenge.

BTW, the sample NSMBU .BFWAW is "Molten Overworld".
by soneek at 5:46 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Those tunes are bfwavs inside BgmResourceStd2nd.sarc.
by TheUltimateKoopa at 5:59 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
If the intro to the circus theme is separate there are about 6 different versions (intro, 4 looped streams, ending), otherwise, there's 5, which means either 10 channels or 12 channels.

Colour Panel challenges probably have at least 7 parts, which could be up to 14 channels altogether. But then, that doesn't explain why they don't just "not play", but don't even get recognized as an audio file at all.
by Benjamin at 6:01 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
The ending's a bfwav in SeResourceStd1st.

Also Color Panel Challenge might be strange, I remember a segment where only a bit of it played for the first part. I think it was in Sunshine Seaside.
by bxaimc at 7:57 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Which ones are unplayable? Also, vgmstream now at r1040. Finally added soneek's bfstm and g1l support as well as some bfwav fixes.
by MurraySkull at 8:22 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Redc_bgm_Circus.my.32.dspadpcm.bfstm
Red_bgm_Circus_fast.my.32.dspadpcm.bfstm
STM_RC_BGM_PDOREMI.bfstm
STM_RC_BGM_PDOREMI_FASTM.bfstm

Also, where can I download VGMstream r1040?
by bxaimc at 8:40 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Alright, so those play on my end. Only issue we have with those is they have a slightly different structure compared to the other BFSTMS such as the loop flag. Since it reports a zero value back to vgmstream (probably has it in a different place because it adds a new RGEN block where DATA usually is) and avoids looping.
by Benjamin at 8:47 PM EDT on October 19, 2014
Maybe they should have an option on where you should have the loop, using the special loop points?

EDIT: On a side note, I mixed some of the sound samples and made this:

How to convert the .bfsar and .bfstm files ? BRSTM Converter or Foobar can't ?
by Benjamin at 7:45 AM EDT on October 20, 2014
.bfsar has the fwav files in it. You're supposed to extract them. In SM3dW's case it's in the .sarc's.
by TheMygoshi at 8:10 AM EDT on October 20, 2014
I don't understand, sorry.. I rip PS2/Wii/DS/PSX/PC/Xbox360 games, sorry, I'm not experimented in the Wii U rip. Can you explain to me how to convert these files? How to convert .bfstm .bfsar (variant of .brsar ?), .sarc etc? please?

I have a Mac, I installed Parallels with Windows 7 so I could use vgmstream. Either that, Bootcamp or any Wine thingy.
by soneek at 11:40 AM EDT on October 20, 2014
You have to dump the bfwavs out of the bcsar for NSMBU. I'm working on getting everything sorted with proper names though, especially since it seems some of these tracks are supposed to play together.

It's not my top priority for now, so please be patient with that.

edited 4:46 PM EDT October 20, 2014
by Kurausukun at 2:19 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
Two questions:
When we understand bcsar/bfsar better, will we have programs to dump/rebuild them?
More importantly: Sonic Lost World tracks (including the two DLC ones)--possible and just not done yet, or can we not dump that yet? That was pretty much number 1 on my mental list of games I wanted ripped, right up there with MK8 and 3D World.
by MurraySkull at 2:29 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
Is there currently anyway to extract from .bfsar?
by soneek at 2:29 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
@Claus
Yes. If anyone else is interested in helping research bcsar/bfsar, I'll make time to document my findings so it's easier to make progress. Of course rebuilding them won't get attention unless file replacing becomes a huge thing for 3DS and Wii U.

I'm not sure about the DLC thing, but I'm sure a regular rip will turn up. I fear it maybe be HCA though.

@MurraySkull
I currently use VGMToolBox. You can throw this XML into the plugins/AdvancedCutter folder. Make sure you click "Load" after selecting "Nintendo Wii U - FWAV Streams" from the dropdown menu.

by MurraySkull at 2:35 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
How is it possible to extract from .bfsar?
by Kurausukun at 2:38 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
Oh, I had nearly forgotten about HCA... I don't see why it would be, though, considering that 1. Sega always uses adx, and 2. Lost World 3DS used adx. But I guess we'll have to wait and see...
by soneek at 2:45 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
They don't always use adx. 3DS version sucked quality wise, so I wouldn't expect crap ADX with the Wii U version. Also, it's listed as using ADX2 (HCA) on the official Criware site.

http://www.cri-mw.co.jp/product/adoption/platform/wiiu.html

MurraySkull see my above post.
by bxaimc at 3:02 PM EDT on October 20, 2014
Holy crap people. All of these questions. For the moment, no one else is able to decrypt the stuff, just crediar and the few who know how to as well. Things will come at their own pace so requests are useless. Take what you can get. Support and tools will come with that same pace as what you see available is what we have as well. Patience people, please. Also regarding the question with vgmstream. Its really meant to be used with something like winamp since the test exe is merely meant to do a quick conversion with 2 loops and 10 sec fade for any file run through it. If you really want to use just test.exe, run it through a command prompt and you'll see a list of options to customize your output file. Yes, it will always be a wav dump but at least you can have it loop whatever number of times you want and do whatever you want with it like the noobs at ffshrine or some other forum who upload mp3 conversions of the stuff or flac for the matter and claim lossless (HAHAHAHA right) or even claim it being the ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK when it's just a gamerip. Or use with audacity, sound forge, or whatever player that suits your needs for playing these wavs unless you use winamp, audacious, or foobar2000 to play the original files. Some of the original files may not play correctly on everyone's set up depending on their sound card capabilities such as being able to play all channels and down mix them or not at all and have to split them with something like audacity. Now, regarding the tools for extracting stuff from bfsars or any other archive, just use vgmtoolbox. It's been here forever and we're constantly trying to give snakemeat input in updating it for whatever we find. Just use the advanced cutter for simple finds f you know what magic bytes are and know how to read file headers. Now if you're pretty good at read virtual file systems from archives like bfsars, you can use the VFS cutter/extractor to get the stuff out more organized. Sorry if I sound dick-ish but we have lives too :)
