oh, oh my, what does this mean?

I sense a disturbance in the force, that post.
by bxaimc at 7:02 PM EST on January 14, 2015
Not much honestly. All it's really for is decrypting the WUDs but not really for piracy or immediate homebrew. That's the misconception lots of people on forums have right now.

The problem is that it's copyrighted code which should have never been posted to begin with.

I downloaded the nus3bank set for Smash and used the script to extract all the idsp files, but I've tried all the vgmstream updates in Winamp and foobar but can't get them to play. Am I missing a step somewhere?
by Lastennet at 9:45 PM EST on January 20, 2015
Yeah, HCS should add more of those little messages.
by bxaimc at 4:07 AM EST on January 21, 2015
Most if not all of these "messages" are from 10 years ago when the forum first went online.
by RebeccaSugar at 11:49 AM EST on January 21, 2015
So what? Personally, I like them a lot and wouldn't mind more- they're fun.
by soneek at 1:41 PM EST on January 21, 2015
For anyone doing rips in the future, make sure to include meta/bootSound.btsnd. Vgmstream support is coming shortly. bxaimc figured it out last night.

Don't assume that we'll get anything unless there's a scene release. Every game will be checked out at some point, if possible.

However, I don't recall there being a scene release for Captain Toad at the time of its rip.

Thanks to crediar's tool I managed to get the music from Game & Wario. I included the stream folder, the bootsound and also the movie folder as the movie clips include music, in case you want all that.

hello
by WrappedInBlack at 10:51 AM EST on February 2, 2015
I'm not requesting this from crediar as he said no requests... but can someone rip the sound effects from smash U? I don't really have enough space on this HDD to add a Wii U iso to it...

@u@ I need to hook up the rest of these HDDs pronto!
MORE SPACE WINS THE RACE!
what @u@?

How to use DiscU please?? You use this to dump no?
by starerik at 11:56 AM EST on February 2, 2015
Open cmd, go to the DiscU directory and type "DiscU" for further instructions.

Yeah I know but I need help to get the game.wud and others files it ask to me.. anybody knows how to find them??
by TheUltimateKoopa at 1:59 PM EST on February 2, 2015
I wanted to download the Smash 4 rip simply to get the Woolly World theme, to upload on BCM. But I don't like downloading at literally 3% of what I should be getting.
by WrappedInBlack at 6:24 AM EST on February 4, 2015
How big is the Smash Wii U iso anyway? And if it's under 32 GB (that's all I have left QuQ) does anyone have a link to it? or can u upload it to mega or something?

EDIT: And for the decryption thing or whatever... does it extract everything at once or can I pick and choose? If its everything at once, then no need giving me the iso... I may not know the size of it... but I know for a fact two Wii U isos of any size will be super close to if not above 32 GB.

It's gonna be really hard to upload 8-10 GB of game data ;_;
by plusy at 6:02 AM EST on February 8, 2015
Just a curiosity. Is it even possible to dump pre-downloaded games on the Wii U. Because if someone actually manages to find sound data in Xenoblade X's preloaded data, that would be a dream come true.
by WrappedInBlack at 7:10 AM EST on February 8, 2015
well some people have the same iso or at least HAD it... If I could get a link that'd be super awesome too... QnQ...
by crediar at 7:35 AM EST on February 8, 2015
IF they even give you the ticket required to decrypt the preload you could access if you had full access to the Wii U.

And WrappedInBlack nobody will upload a 13GB ISO for you don't continue spamming this thread with that.
by WrappedInBlack at 8:01 AM EST on February 8, 2015

Hey,

Anyone want the .bfstms from Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, or Game and Wario?

I have the games so I can post the music here.
by soneek at 7:57 AM EST on February 20, 2015
Mario and Sonic has been posted already. Rainbow Curse would be amazing, as well as G&W. Can you include the bootSound.btsnd files with your uploads?
by larsenv at 9:26 AM EST on February 20, 2015
I'm blind lol, I must of skipped that one.

I'll upload the music tonight to FileCloud.

I'll get the bootSound.btsnd included with the archives.

BTW, is there a way to use the bfstms plugin with Foobar2000?

I would also like to have Rainbow Curse.
by LaniKai at 12:36 PM EST on February 20, 2015
I have a question. When I converted one of the streams from Mario Kart 8, I see that the file has a number of channels for different variations of the track, like the first place beats.

Now when I put the track in an audio editor, I realize that it didn't sound right, and that's because there was a left and right track. Also the beats sounded too loud. Does anyone know how much panning do the left and right channels need? (Ex. Left channel is 50% to the left)

Also the volume and pan of the first place beats? Any help would be appreciated.

The world map themes are in the BFSAR. The world map boss variations and World 1 seem to be sequenced, and World 0's guitar part is sequenced too.

And the 2 beach ambience streams aren't in the sound test I think.
by soneek at 5:53 PM EST on February 20, 2015
Thanks!
by MurraySkull at 6:22 PM EST on February 20, 2015
To add, I think that ALL the world map themes, as well as the menu theme, are sequenced, and that the .fwavs are unused. They are of lower quality then the .bfstms.
by Benjamin at 6:26 PM EST on February 20, 2015
Worlds 2 to 7 are streamed but they don't loop.
by The12thGripper at 2:21 AM EST on February 21, 2015

So I'm not making a "request" here, rather, I'm requesting knowledge:

Why do all the rips have the sfx aside from Hyrule Warrior's? I know it has at least one unused sound effect (Zelda singing Zelda's lullaby). I wonder if the sfx are like oddly packed or something?
by Kurausukun at 3:27 AM EST on March 2, 2015
What do you mean "all"? There were certainly no Smash SFX.
by robotortoise at 4:25 PM EST on March 2, 2015
Hm, really?

They were in the 3DS rip.
by soneek at 11:25 AM EST on March 3, 2015
I extracted raw files for Hyrule Warriors SFX, but I stopped trying to figure out the audio format. It was taking up too much of my time. I can upload them somewhere later if anyone wants to play around with them.

So now that people have received their copies of the official Smash Bros. soundtrack, which do you think sounds better? My hearing is not all that great to be able to judge myself.

a. The 48 kHz files on the Smash Bros. Wii U disc (potentially lossy compression?)
b. The lossless quality 44.1 kHz files on the soundtrack, which are about double the file size when as a maximally compressed FLAC.

Also, can anybody confirm for sure whether the idsp streams use lossy or lossless compression?

Another question: has anybody either created a Smash Bros. playlist that matches the order of the sound test, or has a list that pairs the filenames with the song titles?
by shrimp at 3:41 PM EDT on March 19, 2015
Some tracks on the official SSBU soundtrack disc still have a 32Hz cutoff. It's really quite sad as I was looking forward to actual 44Hz audio. Still, thankfully a majority of them are indeed 44Hz 16bit.

It's hard to say if those 32Hz songs are in 16 bit. They don't sound like it to me. For comparison, the Main Theme / Underworld Theme [The Legend of Zelda] on the CD (snd_bgm_C20_ZLD_MainTheme_Chika.nus3bank from game) sounds sharper and more crisp than the game version (not treble crisp, but quality crisp). So it's mostly safe to say those actual encodes from their original sources may be 16 bit.

For reference, the 32Hz cutoff songs are 1.06, 1.11, 1.18, 1.21, 1.32, 2.04, 2.10, 2.11, 2.13, 2.15. It's a shame. Was hoping to hear Tetris A and The Legendary Air Ride Machine in true CD quality.

Also funny fact, the tracks 1.06, 1.18 and 2.04 from the soundtrack are lossy encoded! (was in the game also).
by starerik at 4:31 PM EDT on March 19, 2015
It's nice to see some true 48kHz soundtracks from first party games like Kirby and MP10. I just hope the in-house teams will start as well. At least Nintendo Land had it, but MK8 and other Mario titles - nope. I will be pissed if Zelda U keeps it at 32kHz.
by The12thGripper at 4:54 PM EDT on March 19, 2015
Aw, the Sonic Lost World rip doesn't have the DLC tracks. :(

edited 10:02 PM EDT March 19, 2015
by MindReader at 6:17 PM EDT on March 19, 2015
Since the music from the MK8 DLC was ripped, wouldn't it be just as easy to rip the Lost World DLC music?
by Kurausukun at 7:36 PM EDT on March 19, 2015
On the SSB soundtrack issue; I can't say I know much about what exactly the .idsp format is, but I'm almost positive it's only 4-bit like pretty much everything else used in games. The 438kbps bitrate of the .idsp files also leads me to believe it is lossy compression (but like many other compression methods such as ADPCM, it's pretty good quality-to-compression ratio, pretty much undetectable). This is, of course, all my speculation, and I could be totally off. If someone more knowledgeable knows about the idsp format and would like to make a post, by all means go ahead and correct me.
by crediar at 12:15 PM EDT on March 23, 2015
Currently DLC can't be just decrypted like update data.
By chance they put the new music in the update of Mario kart 8.
by RebeccaSugar at 8:48 PM EDT on March 24, 2015
If you would know about compression on the adx/aax format, please let me know. I'm thinking of making a few OSV's on some games that are sampled at 48kHz as well.
by punk7890-2 at 8:04 AM EDT on March 25, 2015
IIRC, adx/aax are 4 bit adpcm which sound ok, but kinda irritate my ears after awhile. I wouldn't be fooled by a 48Hz on ADX.
by RebeccaSugar at 10:51 AM EDT on March 25, 2015
Welp! That answers that!

Thank you, this saves a lot of time and regret.
by Hiccup at 2:25 AM EDT on March 31, 2015
Somebody made a mirror of some (or all) of crediar's built-in app rips converted to wav here:
http://mariocube.com/wii/Wii%20U%20Audio/
by Kurausukun at 3:22 AM EDT on March 31, 2015
ADX is probably the easiest to work with. Honestly, it's not really possible to differentiate an ADX file from its source file. 4-bit ADPCM is a quite good compression algorithm, and ADX is the easiest one to work with due to its flexibility with loop points and the fact that encoders are widely available.

To further elaborate on the compression algorithm; the loss of data in an ADX file is purely mathematical--due solely to the lower bit depth. Unlike "perceptive" compressors like AAC or MP3, the only byproduct of compression to ADX is what we call "quantization noise." But there's so little of it going from a source file to an ADX that it's quite literally unnoticeable to human ears--don't listen to anyone who tells you they can tell the difference. Even more so if the audio files in question are already compressed as most game audio files are (but like I said, it doesn't really matter because you can't tell anyway).

That's interesting. I didn't know about that for ADX files, thanks! Though this experience of mine was a long time ago. Dug out some of my ADX rips and compared them to a 16 bit CD release and the only things that stand out (very slightly) is brass and cymbals sounds slightly more crisp on a CD release. ADX's are really are quite good aren't they?

Sorry RebeccaSugar, I didn't mean to put you off.

by Kurausukun at 1:38 PM EDT on April 2, 2015

WindWaker missing tracks by Lesezeichen at 12:36 PM EDT on April 8, 2015
I've noticed that the Windwaker dump lacks a track that is not even on the official CDs available:
The entrances to both the Earth Temple or Wind Temple (where you have to take the Sages to play the prayers to be able to enter the temples) have a theme that sounds similar but not equal to the regular "Dungeon/Cave"-Theme. It's more positive and calm while the other one is more dangerously ambient. I could provide original in-game footage if you dont believe me.
by starerik at 3:46 PM EDT on April 8, 2015
I just watched a video. It's most likely the same sequence file as the regular dungeon track, since they start the same, but they play different instrument channels. Just a guess, though.

edited 9:05 PM EDT April 8, 2015
by Lesezeichen at 3:26 AM EDT on April 9, 2015
It can't be the same sequence since the key of the unavailable track is a Major key while the original Dungeon track is minor.
by starerik at 5:34 AM EDT on April 9, 2015
It could, because they could mute channels and play different ones depending on what cave you entered. My other guess is that the sage cave starts at the end of the regular cave sequence. 2 songs in one. Just how menu and Great Fairy is the same sequence but menu just skipped the intro. (Not in HD though.)

Or could someone please give me all of the music converted? (Like there's even a separate track for the music when using Baby Yoshi.)

No.
I'll post the list to NSMBHD wiki sometime, and by then I might have found it.

@larsenv
If you use the latest version of vgmstream in foobar2000, you can listen to the BCWAVs (I think that is the format the music is in).
