Welcome to the New Server by hcs at 1:13 PM EDT on April 25, 2006
This will be the new halleyscometsoftware.com as soon as I can get the domain name issues sorted out.
Sorry about the downtime, but my old host really sucked.

Cookies don't yet work on the forum (since the domain isn't right), and I'm sure a lot of links are broken, I'll be working on those.

Anyone I was giving web space to should contact me to set up your new ftp account and get info on MySQL.
by marioman at 8:19 PM EDT on April 25, 2006
Oh, were are my manners?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Glad to see that the move was successful.

75 GB of storage and 800 GB of bandwidth a month CAN'T BE WRONG!

(Bandwidth raping isn't nice :( )
by marioman at 2:03 PM EDT on April 26, 2006
Does that mean that the site will host DSPs in the near future? That would be nice!
by Mouser X at 2:28 PM EDT on April 26, 2006
I doubt it. However, it would be cool if select/certain popular DSP sets were hosted on the site. Either that, or the less popular/smaller sets were hosted. I think that, distribution-wise, it would be better to have the more popular sets hosted on the server. But that might not be the best option, due to size, and bandwidth issues. As such, the torrents would probably be the main source of DSPs. However, for the smalller, and less popular sets, it might be okay to host on the web space. Because they're smaller, it doesn't take as much server space. Because they're not as popular, they won't take as much bandwidth either. And, being hosted on webspace, it might up their popularity because more people would be willing to get them.

Another possability would be to host only the newest sets, to help increase their distribution, or to help out the strain on the seeds. Taking that note, maybe a "DSP set of the week/month" sort of thing could be done, where certain DSPs are highlighted, and hosted, on the server.

Obviously these are just ideas on my part, but I personaly think that DSP hosting could be done. Just perhaps not all of them. Then again, what was the total transfered amount on the HCS tracker? I think it was, last I looked, somewhere between 450gb and 550gb. Being up since November, and the site now having 800gb a month, I guess it could be possible. It would be nice to free up some of the strain in the seeds. It would also be nice because it would bring back into distribution the non-seeded sets (killer7 for example. I didn't get it, and I very rarely, if ever, saw it get seeded. A few people tried to download it, but I couldn't help them on that one).

There's my thoughts on the subject. Mouser X over and out.
by marioman at 8:24 PM EDT on April 26, 2006
Yeah, I would kind of doubt that that 800 gig would be used up in a month. Personally, I think that a DSP server would work. I could be wrong though...
by Vague Rant at 12:18 AM EDT on April 27, 2006
I think everyone needs to take into account the possibility that hcs won't want to host a whole hell of a lot more copyrighted audio than he already does.
by hcs at 12:49 AM EDT on April 27, 2006
I'll be putting more up, that's for sure. Exactly what it'll be will have to wait until I have a working domain name.
by unknownfile at 12:40 PM EDT on April 27, 2006
It would be cool if I could help K-F by having about 30 GB of bandwidth put aside for 200 MB episode releases, but I doubt that would be allowed.
DSP hosting by PokeParadox at 5:09 PM EDT on April 27, 2006
HCS, you could surely have a go at setting up a web seed?
O.o by Truth Unknown at 8:59 PM EDT on May 5, 2006
Congrats! Took me abit to go and look for the old site's IP, But I did eventually.
by FireDivine at 3:31 AM EDT on May 6, 2006
Why did you need to find the old site's IP?
by Truth Unknown at 12:25 AM EDT on May 7, 2006
It was the only way for me to load the site to see the forum annoucement of the move.
by hcs at 8:28 AM EDT on May 7, 2006
Whenever possible, refer to http://here.is/halleyscomet

I have full access to that and I keep it up to date.
Hopefully when I get control of halleyscometsoftware.com it'll be true for that, too.
by hcs at 3:14 PM EDT on May 15, 2006
Bad news, halleyscometsoftware.com was bought for $131. I was trying to keep on top of the auction but this fucker grabbed it in the last few seconds. So that's gone unless I can get through to my old host in the next two weeks.
by Truth Unknown at 4:37 PM EDT on May 15, 2006
You could try a .net domain.
halleyscometsoftware.net seems uninhabited.
by PokeParadox at 5:49 PM EDT on May 15, 2006
Fuck!
Oh well, yeah a .net isn't too bad.
by hcs at 7:01 PM EDT on May 15, 2006
The only reason I'm attached to halleyscometsoftware.com is because that's what I've been using for a while, and I'd hate to lose control of it.
In any case I finally got in touch with my old host, maybe we'll be able to resolve this.
by Truth Unknown at 4:25 PM EDT on May 17, 2006
I wish you good luck.
by hcs at 10:32 PM EDT on May 21, 2006
Things are not looking up at the moment; aside from the initial rapid exchange of emails in which I actually got the guy's attention, got an apology from him, and got him to exactly understand my position, I haven't heard from him since.

So this may become a quest for a new domain name:
hcs.org is available from a squatter, I can make a $200 minimum offer.
This option is unlikely; as much as I'd like that domain I can't see spending that money.

Maybe I can go the Neill Corlett direction and use my Real Name.
This is more likely; establishing myself as a "brand name" might be a good idea, but I'd really rather stick with hcs for my projects.

I could try halleyscometsoftware.net, but somehow I find that repulsive.

64thnote.com is free, but that isn't all that's going on here.

hcs64.com is free, enough of my stuff is n64-related that I could consider that.

Suggestions are welcome.
by PokeParadox at 9:04 AM EDT on May 22, 2006
aitchseeess.com hmmm seemed like a good idea before I typed it out...

hypercoolscener.com

erm...

ok I'm not in good idea mode today it seems.
by unknownfile at 8:34 PM EDT on May 22, 2006
Caitsith2 has a .net domain.

halleyscometsoftware.net doesn't sound to bad to me.
by FireDivine at 8:54 PM EDT on May 22, 2006
hcselitehaxor.com
by PokeParadox at 9:34 PM EDT on May 22, 2006
No....

leetHaCsSor.com
Yes my suggestions are going downhill.
The Name Game by Yoshinkeru at 7:52 PM EDT on May 23, 2006
I'm liking hcs64.com, actually.

I've never really understood all the differences between .com, .net, and .org myself. I think they relate to different kinds of webpages, but it still seems slightly arbitrary to me.

Aside: I remember when Fruitcake MIDI--www.fcmidi.com--switched servers, and now it's www.fcmidi.net.
by PokeParadox at 9:06 PM EDT on May 23, 2006
.net == network
.org == organisation
.com == company commercial? dunno lol

They are supposed to represent different types of site... They don't make much difference to me either...
by hcs at 2:07 PM EDT on May 24, 2006
.org sort of implies nonprofit organization
.com is commercial

I just don't like .net...
by hcs at 9:46 AM EDT on June 7, 2006
hcs64.com is now registered, it'll be a day or so before it works. Now it's time to hunt the web for links to halleyscometsoftware.com and get 'em updated.

Seems to be working everywhere I've tried it so far.

I see you made a decision. =P

Anyway, glad to see this place has a new short-reference domain I can point towards others.

By the way - You did get that finished Heroes ADX set I uploaded, right? I think I remember telling you it was done but you never clarified with me.
by hcs at 8:04 PM EDT on June 8, 2006
Yes, I see it, but I haven't checked it out yet.

I just fixed the forum code so it now uses cookies for this domain name, so you can once again log in.

The rar seemed intact, so I moved it over into hcs64.com/bonus/ADX

Heh, glad to see that the party's started again. Is that Heroes ADX pack up for grabs? I'm askin' since I didn't wanna start devouring bandwidth until the "green light", so to speak.
by hcs at 12:45 AM EDT on June 10, 2006

Since the forum doesn't allow alt text on images, that's a green light.

Hmm, would you like me to upload my other sets as well? I have Shadow (44khz), SADX (44khz), and SA2 (33khz) as well.

I also have the renamed SSBM set, but there's still a torrent for that lying around.

Also - I heard the X-Box Heroes ADXs are 48khz. Can anyone confirm this, and possibly rip and upload them? I'd much rather have the higher quality versions if possible. =P

Good to see your website is back with a domain name.

By the way, what happened to the tracker?
by hcs at 11:53 AM EDT on June 11, 2006
I haven't bothered setting up the tracker again, as it will have to be repopulated and all that.
Go ahead and upload those, Tweaker, just let me know when they're in place.
by Mouser X at 12:16 PM EDT on June 11, 2006
I can upload anything you'd like loaded. I'd be happy to help any way I can. I can upload the PSO 1&2 sets, or the PSO 3 set. For that matter, I have all but about 6 of the sets that were on the tracker (of course, they're all compressed as RAR, which I assume is what you'd want it uploaded as). Let me know, and if possible, let me know how to upload them as well (I may need an account). My email is "mouser underscore x at yahoo dot com." I hope to be of service. Mouser X out.
by Tweaker at 6:41 PM EDT on June 11, 2006
Alright, I'll start uploading now.

Can you accept multiple uploads at once? If so, I could probably get them all done tonight.
by hcs at 7:17 AM EDT on June 12, 2006
I think the server accepts something like 10 connections from the same account, so that should be OK.
