Newest VGMTrans by dj4uk6cjm at 6:35 AM EST on February 15, 2015
I'm looking for the newest VGMTrans that exports spc to midi, I had a copy of it on my old PC before it fried but now I need it again and I can't find another copy of it online or on the authors website.
Can someone provide me a link? The program is one of the development versions above 20130823 I believe and yes it exports spc to midi like nintspc but better quality actually, it worked with donkey kong country.
Thanks, I found the one that exports spc to midi but it's not the specific version that dumps BS Zelda no Densetsu spc music into midi which is what I need :( nintspc can't do it either even though it's labeled as one of the compatible games in the doc readme.
No I didn't see that one, I'm using the one from zophar but I'll try that one. VGMTrans crashed for me every time I tried to extract midi out of the first set.
Ugh that didn't work either :/ I keep getting some sort of weird debug error in the VGMTrans you shared and the other copy I'm using just crashes when I try to export a midi from BS Zelda, other snes spcs work fine with exportation but not BS Zelda. I can export BS Zelda spcs to soundfont or dls only which is strange.
maybe you have to compile latest VGMtrans from the source code and see if that version helps? they added some other formats in it, especially spc related variations.
Do you know what I really really FUCKING HATE about any of these "playing MIDIs with soundfonts" type deals? They are NEVER EVER FUCKING PERFECT!
WHY THE FUCK DOES IN A SNOWBOUND LAND SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF RETARDED SCREECHING MANIACS?
WHY THE FUCK IS IT WHEN I SIMPLY EDIT A MIDI, TO MAKE IT SOUND BETTER BY RANDOMLY ADDING AN EXTRA TUNE, WITHOUT ACTUALLY CHANGING ANYTHING TO THE EXISTING TUNE, ALL THE FUCKING SOUNDS JUST DECIDE TO CHANGE TO A PIANO?
But there shouldn't be. I mean, why does it just make EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT a piano? I'm copying them, with their program changes, and other settings, like volume, pitch-bend. I'm not simply copying notes. And even then, if I was just copying notes, it should just make them whatever the last program number was. So, explain how the ENTIRE MIDI ends up being piano?
I'm just going to assume it has something to do with the MSB/LSB events? Or the "SystemExclusive ... something GM" ... whatever AnvilStudio says.
Also, can I make the most fucked up insane rant about Anvil Studio?
I still can't believe, even in 2015, they still haven't fixed a major problem with EVERY version of VGMTrans. Actually there are at least two, but they're pretty much related.
The first thing, is that, why the HELL is there no "save all MIDIs at once?" Why do I have to manually right click EACH one?
Secondly.... why is it I have to choose the folder EVERY TIME? Why does it always default to my "User" folder?
I understand what you mean, but the way I see it man, im happy that we even have this kind of software to begin with, solves tons of things. But yea, it's not perfect.

TUK, calm down. Converting between sequenced music isn't easy. Also, the pitch bend thing depends on the program you use with the midi.
Pitch bend thing? Um.... you didn't read the post at all, did you? There IS no pitch bend. I'm looking at the events in Anvil Studio. There are no pitch bend events whatsoever. Panning events are there, as well as volume, etc.
Some of the instruments are wrong, like most of Super Mario RPG has some kind of high pitched trumpet where any percussion should be.
Sorry, I didn't realize you were talking about SNES stuff. We haven't really had .spc-MIDI conversion before, so it's really no surprise that some stuff doesn't sound right or certain events are absent. Last night I tried some SMW files just for fun, and they didn't really sound correct either.
I think loveemu should update the latest VGMTrans with pitch bends like spc2midi has, just the pitch bends though and nothing else even though some things like modulation are missing in the spc to midi conversions as well.
The biggest problem with why the notes are out of place in all spc midi files is that the spc instruments are mixed down into the individual tracks like for instances a plain string track will sometimes have another instrument accompanied with it like a vibraphone or a percussion instrument. Listen to them carefully (the spc tracks individually I mean) in snes spc700 player and mute all but one track and you'll hear what I mean.
Either the software the people used to record spcs didn't work right (obviously some emulator) or that's how they output but I don't like it either to be honest.
I don't get it, the nintspc readme located in that link there says the game 'BS Zelda' is compatible on the list of supported games and I remember someone on the kuribo64 forums telling me that nintspc was implemented into VGMTrans recently which in hence is why VGMTrans can export spc to midi now (an improved version from the original source I believe) but the current spc sets of BS Zelda found online do not work with either of the programs.
So, did loveemu tested it with his own rip of the rom or does it just not work? Ehh...I really don't want to have to go back to using SPCTL061 to rip snes midis again. :(
