UF test-drives Vista by unknownfile at 6:35 PM EST on October 29, 2006

Today, I found a copy of Vista on ThePirateBay, and decided to give it a whirl. I kept my expectations low to avoid disappointment.

I was surprised to delve into a world of utter bullshit that looks like KDE and Mac OS X. The OS wasn't new at all - just XP with much tweakage. Also, there was much annoyance with settings - you had to click OK before you could enter the control panels, which I assume is a very poor attempt at a security function.

Also, the system requirements are just ridiculous, nearly triple that of XP. see here

My final verdict: Keep XP.

Considering that I can see Vista-on-par-if-not-better effects on my Vista-incapable system using XGL/Beryl...

Nah, I'll keep Ubuntu (until I find a better distro). Since my Edgy upgrade it has even become "responsive"!

Imagine that! A computer that actually does what you expect it to! Amazing! And, ever since Win95 came out, I thought that was impossible to achieve! Thank you Megasuck, for degrading expectations and quality so much, that crap, garbage, and programs made by sneezing on a keyboard are not only accepted every day, but even expected! And to think, the amazing Xbox did the same thing (not as much as MS has for PCs, sure, but it may very well get there)! Wow, we owe so much to you.

If I worked there, it would only be so that I could take them down from the inside, out (which of course isn't going to happen). Thanks a lot, Megasuck. Mouser X over and out.

requirements, bah.
It works fine on my Athlon XP1800, 512MB ram.

Yeah, i found that security thing annoying...but that was one of the first things i disabled.

while on the topic heres else what you get with.

· Ever increasing file sizes when you refresh. And negative file sizes.

· No support for game port joysticks.

· No interface for the defragger.

· Cool transparent menus and window previewer...but that uses more cpu and around 60Mb ram.

· Supefetch. It manages memory usage by paging in and out what it thinks is necessary...but this needs about 20Mb to run.

· An excellent range of compatible Anti virus software - AVG.

· Good support for DOS programs. Each comes with an Hard Error.

· Search Indexing in background...this needs 20Mb.

· Informative task manager. Aty the cost of 5-15% cpu

· Good internet support...bad network statistics.

· Great game support...as long as opengl is not required.

· The ability again to turn off DMA...why?

· Windows denying access to folders if they were created under a different user name on a previous operating system on a fresh install.

· Excellent help and support...no .hlp support.

· Native .NET framework support...no gcc support.

Just to name a few points :)
