@bxaimc I had no idea. That's really nice to hear :D
by mariofan12ify at 9:14 AM EST on December 25, 2017
This might be an enormous pain in the neck to do, but would someone be able to make some brstm files from the Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle files? I know that the intro and loop part for each song are separate, but it's hard to find the right files to match up.
The reason I'm asking is because I want to try and make an OSV of the game.

by MoldyPond at 10:42 AM EST on December 25, 2017
@mariofan12ify You do realize that creating an OSV out of user created brstms = making files out of purposely further compressed files isn't really a great idea?

Wouldn't it make more sense to create it from the pre-existing ripped files?
by bxaimc at 4:51 PM EST on December 25, 2017
Easier to just convert it all to wav and work from there. Although I’m not really quite sure how lossy the Opus codec is in comparison to DSP ADPCM. Also, I never understand why some people do strange things like turning an already lossy file into FLAC. That’s like making a photocopy of an original painting and then framing the copy for preservation.
by MoldyPond at 5:33 PM EST on December 25, 2017
@bxaimc My point exactly. And don't the ripped files already loop to begin with?
by bxaimc at 7:33 PM EST on December 25, 2017
Not Mario+Rabbids. They have separate intro and loop files as mentioned. It uses Audiokinetic Wwise Opus.
by MoldyPond at 8:05 PM EST on December 25, 2017
Ah, had no idea. Speaking of though, do you know if there are any (at the very least) less lossy or uncompressed methods of creating looping files? (Other than making WAV files loop with audacity).
by mariofan12ify at 9:50 PM EST on December 25, 2017
I guess it would much easier if I could find which songs belong together. Because there are quite a lot of files and roughly half of them are cutscene music with SFX. I hope someone could make a list of which tracks are which, because it just looks chaotic to me.

by ArcticJaguar725 at 12:46 AM EST on December 26, 2017
@MoldyPond There are ways to create lossless BRSTMs that use uncompressed 16-bit PCM. You can either use VGAudio or BrawlBox to create those files (though the latest official release of BrawlBox is buggy, so you'll have to compile the source yourself to use the fixed version).
by MoldyPond at 7:55 AM EST on December 26, 2017
@ArticJaguar725 That's why I asked in the first place is because (at least from what I can hear) BrawlBox definitely does some further compression. The louder a song is the worse it comes out sounding.
by mariofan12ify at 10:51 AM EST on December 26, 2017
According to this site, Super Mario Odyssey has finally been dumped, but it's encrypted.
by MoldyPond at 11:05 AM EST on December 26, 2017
Oh lawdy it's only a matter of time then :D
by Vector Harbor at 11:08 AM EST on December 26, 2017
It appears that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has been dump too...but don't jump on conclusion yet...It's just a step...
by 54634564 at 4:41 PM EST on December 26, 2017
These are just full encrypted card dumps. So, the 3.0.1(?)+ games are still not mineable since there's no public way to decrypt them currently.

edited 4:43 PM EST December 26, 2017
by ArcticJaguar725 at 5:03 PM EST on December 26, 2017
@MoldyPond The default and most common type of encoding used with BRSTMs is a type of 4-bit DSP ADPCM, which is indeed compressed and somewhat lossy. BrawlBox added support for 16-bit PCM sometime around a year ago I think, but the latest official release had its fair share of bugs (though they have been patched in the source). PCM16 is definitely lossless, so either you were using ADPCM (most likely), there was an issue with your player, or you were biased in some way.

edited 5:05 PM EST December 26, 2017
by MoldyPond at 5:41 PM EST on December 26, 2017
@ArticJaguar725 Well to be fair I had been using an older version of BrawlBox for awhile and only updated a few months ago, and since updating I haven't done any tests for compression.

Also I've been using the most recent version for awhile and haven't noticed any bugs (though I do use it solely for BRSTM making)
by ArcticJaguar725 at 6:24 PM EST on December 26, 2017
I'm referencing issues with PCM16 specifically; ADPCM has been pretty stable for awhile now.
by Kurausukun at 8:10 PM EST on December 26, 2017
Don't make brstms using BrawlBox, it's a broken mess. Use Moose/furrybob's VGAudioCli instead.
by mariofan12ify at 8:32 PM EST on December 26, 2017
@Kurausukun - That seems pretty useful, but how do you use it? There's no .exe file anywhere.
EDIT: nvm I downloaded the wrong thing lol

Syberia by YoukolSyb at 12:06 AM EST on December 30, 2017
Hello I wonder if it is possible to rip the music of Syberia on Switch, here’s why I dare to bother you.

I bought the two soundtracks from Syberia II and 3 released by Inon Zur and I’ve learnt by surprise that the first was missing.

I’ve messaged him to ask him for the score, but he never answered.. I know that some people are able to decrypt and rip the music files, so because Nintendo Switch music rip are quite good from what I heard I would love to have a Switch one. It's been more than ten years that I want the first Syberia soundtrack. So I hope you could help me please.
by Trogdorbad at 11:47 PM EST on January 8, 2018
Any chance someone can get the 2.0 update tracks from Splatoon? I'd love to have BFSTMs of the Ink Theory tracks.

Also, can't wait for those Mario Odyssey tracks to get ripped, I need the multitracks for Jump Up, Superstar! really badly. (As far as I can tell, it has a true multitrack in that when you jump on the heads of the performers, their actual audio channel cuts out and the discordant tone plays in place of it)
by ArcticJaguar725 at 11:42 PM EST on January 9, 2018
@Trogdorbad I've actually messed around in the game on my own to try and figure out how many channels New Donk City, the Town Hall Band Performance, and Jump Up, Super Star! have. My conclusion has been 10, 10, and 4 respectively. I've found there to be a band track and a vocal track in Jump Up, Super Star! but no individual instrument tracks, which honestly sucks.
by bxaimc at 11:52 PM EST on January 9, 2018
🤔 how did you figure it out?
by ArcticJaguar725 at 2:44 AM EST on January 10, 2018
Note these numbers are not confirmed; rather they are just my conclusions. However, I determined the numbers for New Donk City and the Town Hall performance by noticing that a layer was added (2 channels probably/hopefully) every time a performer was recruited. Additionally for the Town Hall performance, chucking Cappy at the performers would cut out their respective channels usually for a couple of seconds. The same is only partially true for Jump Up, Super Star!, as only Pauline's vocals cut out when struck by Cappy but not the instrumentalists. It makes sense because it's so subtle that there's almost no reason to give the performers their own channels (except for Pauline since you must talk to her).

It's possible the Town Hall performance only has 8 channels, but I guessed 10 for the inclusion of the audience. I could very well be wrong there.

by bxaimc at 2:53 AM EST on January 10, 2018
Stick to your original guess. Just listen: Sax, Drums, Bass, Guitar, Brass. Assuming each one is stereo would make that 10 channels.

edited 2:56 AM EST January 10, 2018
by ArcticJaguar725 at 3:02 AM EST on January 10, 2018
Actually, I'm 99% sure that trumpet and sax use the same channels. The trumpet player represents both instruments (because game logic, I guess). As for trombone, I don't actually think it's present in the Town Hall performance at all.

EDIT: As far as Jump Up, Super Star! is concerned, I'm pretty sure the Title Screen for Odyssey actually uses the exact same recording of the background instruments (well, until it loops) used in the game's verson of JUSS. If both happen to be lossless (which they probably will not be) and the two weren't mixed fundamentally differently (also unlikely), it would be possible to invert the menu music over JUSS and separate the rhythm track from the band track that way. I mean, the menu track isn't exactly ideal, but hey, it's something...

The title screen music might just be a separate file as real-time splicing is too resource heavy.

Guess we'll have to find out when the files get ripped... whenever that will be.
by bxaimc at 10:24 AM EST on January 10, 2018
Yea...
by ArcticJaguar725 at 12:31 PM EST on January 10, 2018
Err, yeah I'm fairly sure the title screen is its own file; even then it could be used to separate the backgrounds through inversion methods if the mixing was lazy. The chances of it working effectively are already very small, so there's almost no reason in bringing it up.

Super Mario Odyssey by YeeMeYee at 11:16 AM EST on January 18, 2018
Hello,

Question about the Super Mario Odyssey dump. I'm able to convert 'm all with foobar2000, but the following three cannot be played due to the amount of channels in the song. They all consist of ten channels:

StmRsBgmCityScenario02.bfstm
StmRsBgmCitySession.bfstm
StmRsBgmDemoWorldMap.bfstm

Is there a way (or another format/program I do not know of) to listen to these songs, or convert them by any chance?
by Knurek at 11:27 AM EST on January 18, 2018
@YeeMeYee: No problem playing them using XMPlay.
by mariofan12ify at 9:30 PM EST on January 18, 2018
You can also use the latest version of LoopingAudioConverter to separate the channels.
by ArcticJaguar725 at 1:14 AM EST on January 19, 2018
@bxaimc Surprised to admit you were right. Apparently there is a channel specifically devoted to brass for the Town Hall Band Performance. I still think I was onto something though when I said the trumpet and sax shared the same channel because there actually is trumpet present in the sax channel, which honestly confuses me.
by bxaimc at 1:38 AM EST on January 19, 2018
I was just testing ya. Already had the files by then so I wanted to see how good you were in mentally separating audio tracks by ear ;)
by ArcticJaguar725 at 3:07 AM EST on January 19, 2018
Whoa, wait a minute. So I'm comparing the rip of the NDC Festival with the HDMI recording and I'm finding that there is actually MORE reverb present in the gamerip than there is in the HDMI rip. Am I missing something important here, or does this actually make no sense? Was that one obtained from a source other than the game itself?
by bxaimc at 2:38 PM EST on January 19, 2018
Just remember that there are 2 versions of the song not including the 8bit and Japanese versions. One plays during the festival and the other plays on the sound test:

RsBgmCityScenario03Clct: Sound Test Version and Single Version

StmRsBgmCityScenario03: The NDC Festival Version

by ArcticJaguar725 at 4:00 PM EST on January 19, 2018
Oh boy, I'm an idiot; I completely missed the sound test version. I guess the next question I have would be how on Earth I managed to miss it after triple checking to make sure there was only one instance of it. My apologies.
by Therius Shulk at 9:34 AM EST on January 20, 2018
Since Mario Odyssey was dumped, is there any chance of getting the music files for Xenoblade 2 as well?
by bxaimc at 10:42 AM EST on January 20, 2018
Eventually.
by starerik at 10:22 PM EST on January 21, 2018
Very nice to see the first ever Mario game to have its music rendered in native 48 kHz.
by Trogdorbad at 4:03 AM EST on January 22, 2018
Anyone know why I can't open StmRsBgmCityScenario02.bfstm and like one other track in foobar or anything else?
by mariofan12ify at 4:05 AM EST on January 22, 2018
It's because they have 10 channels and foobar can't handle playing that many. You can use programs like Looping Audio Converter to separate the channels and extract to wav
by Trogdorbad at 4:09 AM EST on January 22, 2018
That doesn't seem to be working - I try to do it in LAC and it just gives me this error http://puu.sh/z70W8/3a3ec3cd54.png

edit: wait i might have an outdated version

edited 4:22 AM EST January 22, 2018

edit: yep that was it i'm dumb

too bad there's no file for the japanese version of Jump Up Super Star that splits the instrumental and vocals, there's a ton of reverb in the soundtest one when you try to phase invert it

edited 4:43 AM EST January 22, 2018
by ArcticJaguar725 at 10:53 AM EST on January 22, 2018
I believe the reverb is actually coming from the festival itself rather than from the sound test. Reverb confusion already had its chance to make me believe in some kind of audio sorcery, but I think I got it now.
by MoldyPond at 11:36 AM EST on January 22, 2018
Does the japanese version of Odyssey play the japanese version of the song during the festival? (Legitimate question since I can't find any videos of the japanese version's gameplay/NDC is supposed to be New York so it's possible for authenticity they kept it english regardless).
by mariofan12ify at 12:04 PM EST on January 22, 2018
@MoldyPond - The japanese version only plays in the Music List after completing a couple of the Music Toad moons. It also plays on certain jukeboxes.
by ArcticJaguar725 at 12:33 PM EST on January 22, 2018
@mariofan12ify I think he means a Japanese copy of the game itself, not the song.
by Chocolate2890 at 1:09 PM EST on January 22, 2018
Moldypond, I was riding the bus this morning and asked myself the same question. i really hope it does. i want those japanese "ba da da dah"s.
by MoldyPond at 5:45 PM EST on January 22, 2018
Thought I clarified it enough but thank you for properly clarifying it :3

(I'm probably wrong on this but) it's too bad the singer seems to be the same for both languages because the JP version sounds identical to the english. Had she sounded more japanese it would've given me a proper excuse to listen to the JP version instead, not caring about not understanding a word of it instead of cringing from every word that's uttered in english. With both sounding identical I can't justify listening to it without understanding a word (Thank jebus the 8-bit version exists though).

by ArcticJaguar725 at 8:44 AM EST on February 25, 2018
@Bubblun I noticed the file you uploaded is a BFWAV. Do you by any chance have the original BFSAR archive (or whatever Odyssey uses) on you?
by Chocolate2890 at 12:32 PM EST on February 25, 2018
@ArcticJaguar725 I'm assuming some odyssey music uses .bfwav files outside of a bfsar for whatever reason, however there probably is still a .bfsar containing the sfx, which i would like to see extracted and uploaded.
by bxaimc at 1:39 PM EST on February 25, 2018
Odyssey was such a strange game that practically nothing was inside the main BFSAR. Just like Splatoon 2, everything like jingles and sfx were inside .BARS archives.

How about the Switch version of Just Dance 2018?
by simonmkwii at 3:24 AM EDT on April 5, 2018
@RebeccaSugar - To categorise transgender people as "hormonally unstable freaks" is utterly disgusting, morally despicable and completely fucked up.

You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.

How the fuck does a person's gender affect you in any way, shape or form?

The link with the fake Yu-Gi-Oh cards was offensive enough, and your comment was like rubbing salt into the wound, then spitting, shitting and puking into it for good measure.

I hope you reconsider your view.

Regards, a male, non-transgender individual who does not and will not ever stand for transphobic bullshit.

@1425720626 - I'll happily rip the Switch version of Just Dance 2018, unless @bxaimc has plans to do it!

EDIT: It seems to use a new implementation of the rak format, it has "NX" in the header, and I will see what encoding format they used.

I assume ADPCM, because Nintendo, but I will do a proper analysis soon.
