Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Soundfont by dj4uk6cjm at 5:16 PM EDT on August 2, 2017
Hey, thought I'd share this here since everyone wanted a rip of this game and plus all the hype over the remake from Nintendo scheduled to release later this year https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6RDTwb4OndTdjItUFhwMUN6VVk/view it's the real deal. My friend made it recently last month and just so you know even though it uses samples ripped straight from the game, it has not been tested or paired with the ripped midi's as of yet, however he said he will try to get them to work with the soundfont soon.
If you need the ripped midi's or want to play around with them, you can get them from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rHgE_H8aJsQzVSR3ExZnFrd0U/view enjoy!
No he had to manually rip them from the game using a tool online from the openmpt forum, he showed me a link to the thread awhile back but I forgot to save it.
As for the ripped midi's they've been circulating around the internet for quite some time now, maybe about a year or 2 I think. I have no idea who ripped them but I happened to stumble upon them a long time ago, they sound extremely accurate!
I hate to be picky, but the soundfonts are kind of "off". they're a little out of pitch and the way each instrument is really wack because I have no idea which instrument to apply to which channel. When you rip soundfonts, they would need to match up with each MIDI channel like this: https://mega.nz/#!zEcxADjZ!s5XsZvLWyY6VFqo4zvth40cwz9ErGqafWBeXcyiZcww
Well I didn't exactly say it was perfect but it's the best we have right now :P I'm sure my friend will work on fixing them because it would be nice to at least have the drumkits mapped to midi's, no word on when that will be but I'll definitely bump this thread in case I learn of any new updates for the soundfont.
Ripped from what I've been told, I don't think anyone could record every single sample from the game since that would be way too tedious but maybe it's possible.
FYI, the saxophone in Let's See What You've Got! (the battle theme), the rock organ in Let's See More of What You've Got! (the boss theme) and the piano in Popple's battle theme seems to be missing. Is that possible to fix?
A while ago, I ripped the soundfont from Superstar Saga straight from a ROM of the game, and this soundfont is a lot different. I don't know why they wouldn't be the same, unless this soundfont isn't actually from Superstar Saga. (It could be fake)
@sirsoundfont It probably was not the one from Superstar Saga, but Mario Bros. instead, which is part of the ROM. The same applies to sequences which you may have found. Its unclear that MLSS actually uses the MP2k engine.
@StarWolf3000 Oh, alright. That would explain why my MLSS soundfont had so many 8-bit sounds.

Can someone link a FIXED version of the soundfont? The "original" one containing the samples and bad sounding instruments was one I asked some guys on at glitchkill. If you ask me I don't think it has all the instrumetns, and plus could someone put all the percussion instruments into an actual Drumkit, because I don't know how to work with individual percussion samples/instruments.
I found a sound bank in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time with some samples from Superstar Saga. It only has the baritone sax, accordion, harpsichord, orchestra kit, strings, timpani, tuba, orchestra sax, oboe, french horn, harpsichord and the drawbar organ, but the instruments are in higher quality than in the other soundfont, so I'll link it here in case it's helpful to anyone.
Here it is, but like he said, it's mostly instruments for the Mario Bros. minigame, not the game itself. mario.2sf

I already have that, that was the first one that was put on glitchkill, okay, guys to finally put an explanation to this, ONLY TWO SOUNDFONTS OF THIS GAME ARE PUBLIC. The MARIO BROS MINIGAME one and the Crappy one that someone ripped with really bad sounding instrument quality and looping, and no drumkit. The ONLY OTHER ONES THAT EXIST are ones that people say that they have, and either haven't linked or won't link for some reason. to people that ask about the font being updated with better instruments, the correct number that exist in the actual game, I have no clue, you're better off asking on forums and hoping to get lucky, so far I haven't and I have been either ignored, or told that it already exists, to which I beleive they are referring to the crappy sounding one.
by RebeccaSugar at 2:17 AM EDT on September 14, 2017
Honestly we're better off just remastering it with the .midis we have.
Mario and Luigi Superstar saga soundfont by Zetto Kuzuuya at 2:41 PM EDT on September 15, 2017
Though the midis aren't that good either, most have been "ripped" I.E made from scratch and by ear, very few have actually been ripped from the game itself. and plus I'm not the only one looking for the soundfont. I'd do it myself if I knew how, and I've already tried with that GBARipper thing, can't even get that to work at all, even if I follow tutorials. That's why I've been asking on forums, Someone ripped it before and I can't get in touch with them to update it, that's why I've been asking here, I see that some people are attempting to put in effort, though I've been searching and asking for any advice, to no avail as I've gotten no answers on either how to rip it, or if someone else already did, or if they can themselves.
by Kurausukun at 3:31 PM EDT on September 15, 2017
It doesn't work with GBAMusRiper because the game doesn't use the Sappy sound engine, which is the only engine we really know how to work with. You'd have to reverse-engineer the format and write your own programs to get stuff straight out of the game.
Mario and Luigi Superstar saga soundfont by Zetto Kuzuuya at 5:18 PM EDT on September 15, 2017
Well, what do you know about this? and if there's any way to fix them? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6RDTwb4OndTdjItUFhwMUN6VVk/view The sound really off and are of a somewhat bad quality, the percussions are individual, and it only has a handful of instruments from the actual game
by birdmanager6 at 8:28 PM EDT on September 16, 2017
Kurausukun is right. Unfortunately, the only known MIDI converter lacks source code, so we don't know how it works.

Which known MIDI converter?
Mario and Luigi Superstar saga soundfont by Zetto Kuzuuya at 6:27 AM EDT on September 17, 2017
There is a forum dedicated to the Mario and Luigi soundfont (sorta) the M&L Converter site, I'll leave a link, because the forum was recently brought back with a few new comments because I brought it up http://origami64.net/showthread.php?tid=224&page=2
this link is to glitchkill, where I either post a few of my soundfonts there, or get them, it's also where I asked someone the first time to update the soundfont, though it's where this bad version of it came. http://glitchkill.proboards.com/thread/6130/popular-video-game-soundfonts
Yeah my friend Exciter from glitchkill was the one who originally ripped the new version, he's been MIA lately which he does all the time and that's no surprise to me honestly so I don't know when he'll be back to work on the soundfont again (maybe during the holiday seasons because he is more active then) but if I could remember exactly how he ripped the samples I'd fix it myself...all I remember is him showing me a link in the status updates for how he did it in which I think he mentioned using some tool on another forum, might have been either the openmpt or mfgg forum.
At the moment there isn't really much we can do about the improper pitch or loop points, any missing instruments as well as the lack of a drumkit percussion issue everyone is frustrated over.
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 3:21 PM EDT on September 17, 2017
Alright, thanks for letting me know, my biggest issue besides the font itself, was knowing who updated it, as without any contact from them, it would be pretty much usless at this point, no one else seems to be able to do it, or just doesn't want to or can't because of time and programs, and knowledge.

Hi, I'm currently working on a Superstar Saga MIDI + DLS + SF2 collection.
My goal is rip this game's soundtrack in the highest quality possible. I have recorded about 80% of the game's samples and percussion tracks, and I am currently working on compiling them into DLS so they can be automatically applied onto the ripped MIDI's instrument patches. After that I'll start working on making a SF2 and some FLPs for FL Studio.
I have some preview links for some of the tracks I have completed, and to compare them to the original:
"The Name is Fawful!" (original - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omMBgNkJbi0) (HQ - http://picosong.com/wwH5x/)
"Welcome to the BeanBean Kingdom!" (original - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNay5uldi7I) (HQ -http://picosong.com/wwHX8/)
As you can see, the GBA static is almost completely gone and some of the instruments are more audible, mainly the percussion. I am not 100% done yet, so there will probably be some changes in the full release.
by mariofan12ify at 10:54 PM EDT on September 29, 2017
@Excalibur624 This is amazing! Can't wait for the release. When do you think it will be done?
Well done! Can't wait for the final release. Mind though that MIDI+SF2 soundtracks may have some inaccuracies, though getting rid of the static is totally worth it.
I have MIDI+SF2 rips of Pokemon RSE and FRLG I did for myself and a certain instrument sounds off, as well as the percussion in some tracks is way too loud. That's because iirc the percussion and the square channel's volume and some effects can only be altered and reproduced via direct GBA hardware sound output and cannot be emulated so their volume is fixed in this kind of rips. (Or something like that)
This is how Route 113 sounds, for instance.

@G-Boy
As to how I ripped the instruments, I recorded them individually from the game. What I did was take a spare MLSS rom, then in MLConverter I replaced the Title Screen midi with one long note. I recorded the samples then adjusted it as needed. Surprisingly, the samples sounded much better in quality by themselves than combined with other instruments. Yes, it was pretty tedious, lol

I'm not sure when I will be done, but school and moving out is consuming chunks of my time. if everything goes optimally, I assume I'd be finished ripping, fixing, and testing everything in about a couple of weeks

Very pleased to hear about this! Nice demos as well. Let us know how your progress comes along in this thread if you'd like and when it's complete.
Also the method you're using to rip the samples sounds a little similar to how my friend did it, he probably just didn't rip them correctly.
by Excalibur624 at 1:25 PM EDT on September 30, 2017
Thank you, I will occasionally post some progress updates on this thread from time to time.
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 1:31 PM EDT on September 30, 2017
you could ask for assistance so things would go smoother and you don't have to worry about much, I'd be glad to help. though I don't know much about actually ripping things myself, more or less testing in FL studio or keeping track of things
by Excalibur624 at 2:12 PM EDT on September 30, 2017
@Zrtto Kuzuuya
That would be very nice. if you would like to help, I have some FLPs that you could test and see if there's anything wrong with them
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 3:17 PM EDT on September 30, 2017
Sure, though I forgot how to open them on FL studio, it's been a while
I've been checking other forums and surpisingly talk about this specific font have died out XD totally short lived, though I'm really glad progress is being made finally after such a long time, though what's strange to me is why superstar saga DOESN'T use the sappy engine. My guess is because it is based off that Japanese only gba game it probably uses the same engine and it's not sappy. but idk
I'm really excited for this, sorry I keep asking about when it will be finished XD I've just been trying hard to get progress back on this lol
by Excalibur624 at 2:30 PM EST on November 8, 2017
Sorry I haven't updated much. I took a break after I last updated and now I'm going to continue this project. I've finished about 95% of the soundfont and just need to finish the drum kits, which I haven't done yet for a majority due to some troubles with ripping. Now that it's resolved, I'm going to finish up the soundfont and start working on drums.
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 7:05 AM EST on November 11, 2017
Okay, I see, and thank you for so much that you've done, many people have tried to rip this, but usually gave up and stopped, or just pulled out something unfinished, or could only get the ones from the mario bros minigame.
by Excalibur624 at 5:37 PM EST on November 12, 2017
No problem, I'm glad to see that I'm making people happy!
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 4:59 PM EST on November 14, 2017
When do you think you'll have it finished? sometime near the end of the month or so...? also, would it be alright if I put up a video for this soundfont and a download link?
by Infomaniac95 at 1:59 AM EST on November 24, 2017
So, how comes progress on the soundfont? It has been some time since we last got an update to the current progress.
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 3:18 PM EST on November 24, 2017
he said it's been 95% done, and thanksgiving break for alot of school students and people just started a few days ago, I'm sure he's been busy with that recently, give him time, I'm pretty excited too, but my estimated guess says sometime by the end of the month or the start of the next month, it IS a soundfont, and those take alot of time to make, and considering this game doesn't use the sappy engine, (basically a game engine that MOST and ALOT of gameboy advance games use) it's gonna be a while, have hope, we made it this far, and if something happens, don't give up. all we can do is be patient.
by Excalibur624 at 3:52 PM EST on December 2, 2017
I will upload a couple more previews shortly
by Excalibur624 at 4:06 PM EST on December 2, 2017
Also an update on progress: I noticed that the MIDIs ripped from MLConverter have some inaccuracies, mostly involving note volume, placement, and panning (especially "Bowser's Castle" and "Fawful & Cackletta Battle"). So along with the soundfont pack, I will be releasing altered MIDIS that are more accurate to the originals.
Amazing, hearing the choir from the Underground Tunnel theme at higher quality makes me question whether or not it's really something from the SC88 since someone here said it was. Nonetheless I'm excited for this soundfont and enhanced midis! Thanks for giving us an update!!
Samples from SC-88? by Infomaniac95 at 2:06 AM EST on December 3, 2017
If some of these samples are from an SC-88, tell me which, and I can tell you if they are or not.
Mario and Luigi Superstar saga soundfont by Zetto Kuzuuya at 2:52 PM EST on December 3, 2017
Oddly enough I heard there were two people working on a soundfont, one on glitchkill, I think it's the guy who owns the site, and you.
The piano, steel drums, harpsichord, fretless bass, orchestra hit, pizzicato strings, tuba, baritone saxophone, pan flute, sitar and the orchestral kit are from the SC-88. The choir could also be from the SC-88, but I don't know since it doesn't appear in the soundfont.
by Infomaniac95 at 9:34 AM EST on December 10, 2017
So I was browsing TCRF for info about M&L RPG 2X2, and I read that inside the rom was music from M&L RPG, so I got a copy of the rom to take a look, and sure enough, it was right.
Inside this archive is the soundfont that goes with the music, and a midi file: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AmegrQLdlhRxuyv7ouQ1jsO6sBMKX18H
This might prove useful in some way, idk how, but perhaps it might.
by Excalibur624 at 4:51 PM EST on December 12, 2017
Hmm, I'll take a quick peek at that
by Excalibur624 at 4:55 PM EST on December 12, 2017
Wow that is really interesting! This will probably help alot with the project
Edit: Apparently inside Partners In Time's ROM, there is a soundbank full of PERFECT quality Superstar Saga instruments! This is an amazing discovery!

I saw that too, i ripped the samples to wav using vgmtrans, although not every instrument, it still a good find i say
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 10:22 AM EST on December 16, 2017
that's still pretty amazing, I had suspect that partners in time had some instruments left over, given that in the debug mode, some of the beanbean castle town buildings can be found in the PIT style.
Yes, I posted a link to that Partners in Time sound bank in September. It has the baritone sax, accordion, harpsichord, orchestra kit, strings, timpani, tuba, sax section, oboe, french horn, harpsichord and drawbar organ from Superstar Saga.

What's the progress on the soundfont and midis? Looking forward to getting my hands on them.
Announcement about Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga Soundfont + MIDI + DLS Collection, BETA Release Coming Soon by Excalibur624 at 8:28 PM EST on December 27, 2017
Soon, I'll (finally) be releasing prototype MIDIS/DLS/SF2 (and FLPs for FL Studio users) to the public. The project is about 80% complete.
With this good news, I also have some bad news as well.
For one, I've been having lots of trouble ripping INDIVIDUAL Percussion samples. Using the method I used to rip the instrument samples does not seem to work with Percussion samples (stored in 00 and 07 banks), the game crashes for some reason. I could re use the samples from the soundfont on Glitchkill, however there are 2 problems:
1: The pitches are all screwed up and would take a long time to adjust 2: It only contains about 30% of all the percussion samples used in the game, some in this soundfont aren't even in the game at all (but are in Banjo Kazooie Grunty's Revenge)
As an alternative (for now), I used the VisualBoyAdvance emulator to record the percussion channels from most of the songs in the game, using the maximum quality settings. They are in WAV format, and you will have to apply them yourself (although it's easy, the base song is already synced with the drumkit so you could just plop the drumkit right in, without any timing editing)
However, the FLPS included with the pack already have them applied for you.
Until I (hopefully) sort this out, this will have to do. I'm sorry for the slight inconvenience
by Excalibur624 at 7:07 PM EST on January 18, 2018
Progress:
I've been working on a side project alongside this: A soundfont for The House of the Dead 2 (I managed to rip the samples from the Naomi version). Midterms were eating my time but now they are over with so more time to work on the soundfonts.
In the case of the Superstar Saga soundfont, I just have to do a few checkups before beta release. Hell I might just release the full kit since I'm so close to finishing it anyways
EEEEEEEEE!!!!!! HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2!! YUS!! Hey excalibur, do you think you could do jojo's Bizarre Adventure Heritage for the future or Sonic the fighters? And by that I mean the arcade ports, since oddly enough even though the ps1 version of jojo uses the cps3 font, it's streamed, but the arcade version isn't, samples exist, but they were never ripped correctly.
by Excalibur624 at 7:38 PM EST on January 20, 2018
I probably can do Sonic the Fighters and Jojo when I finish up my other projects.
BETA MLSS Soundfont Releae by Excalibur624 at 5:02 PM EST on January 31, 2018
After a long wait, finally I am releasing a prototype for my upcoming Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga soundfont! It's about 85% complete. I have to make some QoL changes before the full release such as correcting the midi patches and improving 2 or 3 instruments that could be better quality such as the pizzcato string Hopefully this will keep you guys occupied until the full release
Thank You! by Infomaniac95 at 7:28 PM EST on January 31, 2018
Thank you so much for this! sounds so much better than any other soundfont for this! however, the midi rip from the first post doesnt seem to exactly sound right using this.
by Excalibur624 at 8:42 PM EST on January 31, 2018
You are welcome. :)
The midi's don't really sound right with the soundfont from Glitchkill as well. That's because the game uses a special type of midi system (most likely MP2K) with special presets for the sound channels and samples, to make them sound like they do in-game. These ripped midis mostly remove these presets due to the conversion from MP2K to General-Midi and thus sound wrong.
However in one of the previous pages, I said I would soon release fixed, better sounding midis to go along with these samples!
BTW, the samples from my soundfont keep the special presets (such as reverb, pitch correction, etc) that make them sound more accurate compared to the Glitchkill one
What of the percussion? also if and when you do them, could you do a percusion kit as well? so for those of us who don't know how to use individual percussion samples can use this.
by Excalibur624 at 5:36 PM EST on February 2, 2018
Sure I can do that :)
Also like I said in another post, i had trouble ripping the percussion samples so I have left that out of the soundfont for now. But I will find something out

Wow that Mario RPG remix is nice.
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 11:10 AM EST on February 4, 2018
Thanks, though most of the instruments have a bit of static, though I had to change the pitch, and it still had it. I use FL studio 10. but other than that it's all really good. I think it's just the midis I use.
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 1:12 PM EST on February 17, 2018
The way the sample loops reminds me of the Wii's BRSAR looping. Some loop points are wrong and some instruments are way too noisy, but i understand it was difficult. By the way,Thanks for sharing your soundfont!
by Zetto Kuzuuya at 5:14 PM EST on February 27, 2018
Haven't been focusing on it too much, however I am going to release some modified MIDIs that sound better with the soundfont applied, also maybe a DLS file for you FL Studio people
Alright. though I am hoping a drumkit can be fixed up and made in time, and although without the fixed loop points and volume and such, I did manage to make some good stuff, albeit using the partners in time drum kit
Mario sunshine/drums in general by Zetto Kuzuuya at 5:11 PM EDT on April 13, 2018
I know this is for superstar saga but I am having trouble with some drum kits, especially with sunshine and the yoshi drums. I use FL studio, and when I put the Yoshi drums in a channel (the soundfont from Bianco Hills, or Yoshi drums form the whole soundfont file, or even The one from Isle Delfino. It has no sound. can someone help me out because I don't want this happening with superstar saga's font
@Zetto Kuzuuya Have you tried clicking the C5 note in the piano roll? Also, do you have the same problem with drum kits in other (not Super Mario Sunshine) soundfonts?
sunshine drums by Zetto Kuzuuya at 11:29 AM EDT on April 15, 2018
@G-Boy yes, I do have the problem for a few other fonts, but I may have deleted them a while back while trying to make room for bioshock infinite on steam, though with super mario sunshine, I put the yoshi bongos for a drum track that is already there like I do with all drum kits, and it doesn't work, there are VERY rare cases that it actualy does, and sometimes I do get one or two notes out of the ENTIRE set, but most of the time it doesn't work flat out.
Here's a link, I underline the section I put the yoshi bongos to, I'll also link the midi I used.
@Zetto Kuzuuya AFAIK, the Yoshi bongos only consist of two playable notes (C5 and C#5). If you put the Yoshi bongos instrument over a drum track, only those two notes will make sound, and if none of those notes are played in the MIDI, the drum track won't make any sound at all. If you want to hear the bongos, you'll have to move every drum note to C5 and C#5. (Sorry if my explanation was hard to understand)
Hoping to have a full soundfont set soon, Because the one you listed at least synchs up perfectly with the Midi's ripped directly from the game. (aside from missing instruments like drums and such)
How'd you get it to do that? Or did you have the default soundfont ripped already somehow?
I ripped the instruments directly from the game and used a way to keep/restore the original special echo effects that each instrument had. It sounds more authentic to the original while still being more high quality
