ToWav Problem by jeangene91 at 6:27 PM EST on February 1, 2018
For some reason, Towav is not working for me. Dragging the files to convert onto the towav.exe only brings up the command prompt window for less than a second and no files are made. Even using the command prompt to run it does nothing. It just shows "Towav (c) Xplorer 2k6-2k9" without converting anything.

which type file are you trying to convert?
by bxaimc at 6:39 PM EST on February 1, 2018
Hmm. What are you trying to convert?
by bxaimc at 6:39 PM EST on February 1, 2018
Jinx

Jinx?
by bxaimc at 6:45 PM EST on February 1, 2018
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinx

“"Jinx" is also a term used when two people say the same thing at the same time and the person who says jinx first makes the other person not speak until somebody says his or her name. The only prevention for this state is to yell the word "buttercup" after the jinx. This can be countered by "Jinx no buttercups".”

lmao
buttercup

Or you could give them a soda.

Anyway, I'm trying to convert this, but I have tried converting a regular .flac file and even an .mp3 file. Nothing seems to work.

Just keep in mind Towav is not a tool of ours. It came from a Russian website somewhere on the web. LWAV is a hack we implemented to force vgmstream to read smpl chunks from a typical wav file for loops if available. Eventually it was linked to Wwise RIFX until we found out the true extension was .wem. Towav’s format support is limited. We mostly used it for XMA conversions back before vgmstream supported It.

I understand. The reason I tried this was I was following a recommended process to convert .SNDS files. The .SNDS are made into .GENHs through VGMToolbox, then I add an Xbox header with QuickBMS, giving me the resulting .LWAV. The user Mygoshi recommended ToWav as part of the process. Somehow he got it to work.

i'm starting to think that mygoshi acts as if he knows what's he doing despite having no knowledge over the files he works with whatsoever. he only cares about the music he wants to listen from the games he "rips" his VGM stuff from.

With towav?

"Ok"
holy shit i pushed his pressure-sensitive buttons lol

what's even funnier is that he didn't say shit about the fact he just SUCKS at vgm ripping. i remember that one time in which he asked ACTIVISION'S PERMISSION to "extract" these .RWS files he found in some Madagascar game from PC. then he basically says anyone that it's a SECRET despite the fact he came in a FILE-RESEARCHING MESSAGE BOARD JUST TO MAKE A THREAD ABOUT THE DAMN FORMAT AND WASTED EVERYONE'S TIME IN DOING SO BY ASKING ACTIVISION TO TAKE CARE OF THESE .RWS FILES FOR HIM. that's how bad he is as a vgm ripper. more details available here:
http://zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=646

he also made a thread that basically says "plz handle this format for me", and thus aluigi wrote that script detailing that format for him. but after a certain point, after sending out more formats for aluigi to "analyze" and then update that same script for him, here's the epic part:
he opened these audio formats as extracted from the archive through foobar2000 and it didn't work. he basically blamed the script for not making the player magically work with these files. amazing.
again, here are the details for this one:
zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1190

look, don't get me wrong. i'm not quite experient as a "vgm ripper" either, but at least i tried to gather quite a bit of knowledge as to how the files work through some basic work needed to grasp whatever files i come across for vgm ripping stuff(such as 32-bit fields, binary numbers, etc.). however, as i established in the beginning of this post, mygoshi just sucks at vgm ripping. he will find a way to post all his rips into youtube and "download.khinsider" no matter what, yet he has no skill for what he's doing. don't listen to him at all costs, especially when you need help with vgm ripping at all.

Thank you, simonmkwii. How did you convert the file? Is mono audio a result of your method?

I decoded it by adding an ADPCM header via a hex editor, also, the original file was in mono!

The game likely uses filters to create a fake stereo effect.
