Nicktoons Racing PS1 Music by Infomaniac95 at 10:10 PM EDT on April 21, 2018
So for some time, I have been trying to obtain the PS1 music files for the game, Nicktoons Racing, but have not had any luck getting them, since they seemed to be lumped in one file. The PC DOES have the music in wav format, but its in 22khz, and has alot of background noise. Any pointers/help would be very nice. If this post is lacking some info you need, let me know, and ill see if i can get said info you need.

🤔

Maybe I’ll take a look.

The files are streamed sony adpcm. They're in the cdimage.wod file. Problem is they seem to be headerless.

You can rip the audio with something like FastElbJa's ADPCM player, then just throw them into vgmtoolbox's genh maker. Should be 2 channels interleaved at 800.

I couldn't get it working, so RIP that idea.

If someone here could rip it for me, that would be very much appreciated!

It's in the file called "CDIMAGE.WOD"
It's a binary archive file, and it appears to have a full filesystem with folders, names and other stuff.
Hopefully someone skilled with structs and quickBMS can do something!

Well, I have the music files ripped, i just dont know how to properly make a genh. A screenshot of what id need to set would help alot.
by Kirishima at 7:13 PM EDT on April 22, 2018
You need vgmtoolbox. There should be a genh tab under misc. It should be pretty straight forward from there, except newer versions of the genh creator have a setting called "Raw Data Size". It says optional, but it really isn't. Putting something like 1 in there was enough to satisfy it when I was testing it. I don't know if that was ever fixed, but a new compiled revision hasn't been released yet.

Nope, still wont work. I think i need a screenshot, cause i cant get it to generate working genh files.
by Kirishima at 11:58 AM EDT on April 23, 2018
What exactly are you doing? I'll try to walk you through it since I don't know how to post screens here. Start from what program you used to rip the initial files.

Bad news, the PS1 version is also sampled at 22KHz.

Good news, I have remastered it, by expanding it to 44KHz, filtering the ADPCM artefacts using dequantization techniques and restored the treble balance to account for the audible aliasing occured by using zero-order hold interpolation as the spectral/frequency reconstruction technique.

You might not understand what I'm talking about, but the good news is, I'm uploading high-quality remastered versions of each track!

(Note: you'll need to split them yourself, there's over an hour of music there, and after I did the remastering job, I got tired...)

Holy shit, thank you so much! I've always quite liked this game's music, and having a high quality version would be quite nice.

If needed, i can rip the music from the PC Version.

Here you go!

Oh yeah, forgot to add, whenever there's a game that has no high-quality version of its music on any platform, I take the best version (out of the available options) and do my remastering process on it!

Also, here's a quick comparison (original track first, remastered track second):

My remaster starts at around 2 mins 16 secs in.

HOLY CRAP. That is really impressive. I have never thought I would heat this games music in such high quality! Thank you so much sir!

@Infomaniac95 - You're very welcome!
The noise was pretty hard to filter out on a per-album basis, by the way, because for some weird reason different tracks had more noticable hiss than others...
(By the way, my comparison was of the song with the worst amount of noise!)

I'll happily upload the original GENH if you want.

@simonmkwii sorry to bother you, but do you think you could also remaster these songs as well?

I wish you luck with this btw, as idk if we can salvage this
by simonmkwii at 11:00 PM EDT on April 27, 2018
I'll take a look at it for you!
by Infomaniac95 at 7:50 PM EDT on April 28, 2018
Any news on progress?
by Infomaniac95 at 11:42 AM EDT on May 2, 2018
@simonmkwii any news about this?
by bxaimc at 12:54 PM EDT on May 2, 2018
music is not headerless on the PS1 version. They are .ivg files. Problem is I'm too stupid to read the table at the beginning. Headers contain "IGVP" magic but exactly how they're structured is beyond me. Making sense of the table at the beginning of CDIMAGE.WOD is key for those offsets.

@Infomaniac95 - This was the hardest remastering job I've ever done!
I spent weeks on it, but I'm still not satisfied.
Tell me what you think: https://mega.nz/#!KjgwlCaR!8SqhNjAHOoVWHUcOT3pkCvumfFa5urBnTCgcIjWpdZo

Man, honestly, i'm suprised it came out as good as it did.

Thank you very much for this.
by simonmkwii at 10:05 PM EDT on May 13, 2018
That's only one of the four, so you're happy with that type of remaster for the rest (no noise reduction)?

Yeah, I tried around 20 or so noise reduction filters and plugins, and every single one of them completely ruined the tracks...
by Infomaniac95 at 7:41 PM EDT on June 16, 2018
Sorry to bother, but the nicktoons racing remaster has now gone down.

Hey, so, IK it has been a long time since this thread was made, but I was wondering if anyone had success ripping the ps1 music into genh files or not.
