I don't think having the MIDI data in the miniUSFs rather than the USFlib will necessarily make it any larger. Having some samples partially loaded will probably do it, though, as will the difference in state caused by that little extra time (deviant execution for each different tracks).
Whatever.

And if I you want I can help with the processing, I've got a nearly-empty computer lab full of 2.8 GHz machines here. Just put up the ripper executable you're using, a save state, and whatever parameters I'll need (such as what song range I should work on).

i would if i had braught my files to UNI today. Anyway i got computer labs which will be empty tommorrow, and thats when i will plan on doing the rip (22 computers)

Oh, and there isn't one savestate, just about 144 of them (the ripper doesn't like the TLB errors)

Hmmm, perhaps i might be able to get it working today...i remember what i patched into them (whats what you get from many hours staring at the same screen - it is burned it my mind.

I'll see what i can do.
Meh, i'll just go home early and start it there. Its too hot in this lab anyway.

I am not trying to break away from the topic of your discussion there, but I thought that I better update you on something:

I FOUND THE MONKEY BALL 2 SOUNDTRACK!!! It can be found here. Yes, it is the same place that Unknownfile posted for the Mario Party 3 OST. They just updated it recently and added SMB, SMB2, and Mario Party 4. So, you guys might would like to check it out.

A big thanks goes out to Unknownfile for posting this link. Thanks a lot.

See you later.

64th Note has decided that it doesn't like the TLB Misses and that in the recompiler cpu it crashes and burns because of Non-mapped space.
The other option is to make the tracks miss the first fraction of a second (up to like ? a second).

Dang.

Here's a new free WinAmp VST Host DSP Plugin being worked on by kvr forum member here.

And here's the plugin

It might still be a bit buggy though. :P
by Josh W at 3:17 AM EDT on October 13, 2005
Right, thats it. Ripping cbfd is pissing me off now. Now the output from my fresh compiled version of the batch ripper don't even work, but the same thing with hcs's compiled version of it works fine.

So therefore, i have decided to use the ones from the sample, plus the special made sloprano, then running the rest of the original ones manually through the ripper one by one.

could you give me your modified PJ64 source (for the save state creation) and let me take a look at it to see if I can't get some workage?
and are you sure you're using the right rsp.dll for the ripper? that bugged me to no end, since I don't have anything to specifically detect the rsp.dll with the trace code built in

By "gamerips" I mean rips where there's a nice bit of music, and then, out of nowhere comes the unholy voice of the character your playing as.

xSFs are emulated sound formats, IMO.
by Josh W at 5:26 PM EDT on October 13, 2005
Well i got the batchripper working. How? I dunno, it should of worked the first time. I blame it either my compiler options or the way i inited the logging. This time i just left the logging alone.

Be done in no time.
by hcs at 5:41 PM EDT on October 13, 2005
SWEEEEEEET! That batchripper is a fickle beast, indeed. Something I ran into was a problem with running two instances of the ripper from the same networked drive, they interfered with each others' save states and I wound up with a bunch of silent files.

It's true that a lot of gamerips are hampered by sfx, but careful rippers avoid that. Think about the Super Smash Bros. Melee rip, or any other from a soundtest, SSBM is on par with a proper OST release (not that any was ever made...)

I compared USFs (and PSF in general) to gamerips because their goal is the same, to seperate the audio experience from playing the game. When there's no OST or the OST is monstrously incomplete that's your only option. USFs are closer to a direct conversion of whatever native data format the audio is in to WAV, which I'd also call a game rip.

Sure, just send me the ripper and whatever's needed to generate these save states and I'll get right on it (note that I have no means of compiling here). I'd start on 0x84 or so, about halfway to the end from where you are now (assuming my memory about the last one being 0xa9 or so is accurate).

a9? you sure? I only got up to 0x94 before it stopped working, maybe it was only that one.

damn, i didn't bring my savestate maker today, only
the savestates themselves. And i don't think it would be approprite to send 25MB of them.

I can try and make another whilst i rip the ones i got now.

by hcs at 5:59 PM EDT on October 13, 2005
Don't worry too much about it, though I could handle 25 MB fine at the lab (and it'd fit fine on the server these days).

You're right, I misremembered 9A as A9, which I think is the highest (though that one actually crashes, I'm referring again to the GSCentral page.
by Josh W at 6:08 PM EDT on October 13, 2005
'k then. As i should have it done in no time anyway.
Well i'll just do the 0x94 i have now and check later for other indicies higher.

Ah, yes it says it freezes at 0x94, so i'll do that later, and assume that 0x95-0x99 work.

0x67 - 10:08

Very unusual music by unknownfile at 4:40 AM EDT on October 14, 2005
I just listened to music from Myst II (Riven), and I noticed it is very unusual. Teh link! ;p

I also got this for my Mac several years back. Due to constant crashings on the mac, I haven't played Riven for a while. Hopefully I can unearth the five CDs soon for monsieur Windows XP Desktop avec un Pentium 4 trois GHz. (Yes, I do speak some french, at least Canadian French.)
by hcs at 5:12 AM EDT on October 14, 2005
Heh, I never got very far in Myst and my frustration carried over to never bothering with any of the sequels. I always thought it was a great idea, though, I just suck at video games.
by unknownfile at 7:51 AM EDT on October 14, 2005
I never played the original Myst, but I did play Riven. I never finished it, though it's a sweet game, especially when you ride around in those things that travel on tracks above vast distances of water.

By the way, I'm highly considering making a flash page for my main site (which is currently coded in PHP). I think that if I do this, however, that some space might be lost.

And did I ever mention I started the cello sometime way back when?

Zelda no Densetsu, Toki no Ocarina by hcs at 10:05 AM EST on October 31, 2005
I am now the proud owner of my first N64 soundtrack, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Unfortunately it's a very low quality release... I'm having read errors with EAC and I just took it out of the shrinkwrapped jewel case and it looks spotless. I'm fairly sure it isn't bootleg, it just looks like they did a really shitty job with it.

Then again, the version I find reviewed online is PCCG-00475 (Pony Canyon), whereas this one is KO-99116 (KO Recording Ltd.), though I think that's the same publisher for the Hellsing soundtrack. I guess it's just a reissue, but it's a lousy one.

edited 3:32 PM EST October 31, 2005

The more I look at this and the other discs I got from the same seller the more convinced I am that they're shitty reproductions. The one cover looks clearly photocopied, and the back insert is printed on both sides but behind a black disc holder (which was partially broken!) so you can't see part of it. Tau Analyzer seemed a bit confused and recognized some tracks as MPEG encoded but most as UNKNOWN, which seems to indicate to me that it's from dithered MP3s. Time to see what I can do about getting my money back.
I looked briefly on eBay and it seems that EVERY OTHER COPY being sold is from some bizarre brand, abnormally cheap. WTF?

It turns out that someone switched track 10 between disc 1 and disc 2 (including names) and the same with track 6 in my case (maybe not for you since you said 10 was the only odd one). Now it checks out against freedb.

I finally got my father's copy of The Great Pyramid by Charles Earland (he had the LP in storage), and I hooked my turntable up to a computer so I could have a copy. The mastering engineer would probably kill me for what I've done in the name of noise reduction, and I'm wary of listening with headphones for fear that I realize how truly crappy it is, but it sounds ok when listening over lousy speakers. I'm uploading it right now, in case anyone else wants a listen... this was never released on CD, to my knowledge (and I searched extensively).

by Josh W at 6:34 AM EST on January 17, 2006
making your own ringtones on phones is neat.

The ringtone on my Motorola C201 is Someday The Dream will end.

I think the others i made for it are Secret Library Daguerreo, To Zanarkand, You're Not Alone! and the FF6 theme.
by hcs at 9:49 AM EST on January 17, 2006
I should look at some of those...

The Metal Gear Solid theme works really well, I'd be using that but I made it for my brother and we need to be able to tell the rings apart.

I also have Comic Bakery, First Step Towards Wars (Ys), that thing from Link's Awakening that was remixed as Braving Tal Tal Heights, Ballad of the Wind Fish, Hyrule Temple, Hyrule Castle, the Shop theme from Zelda 64, bits of the main Zelda theme, the Donkey Kong theme, Cosmo Canyon, some of a song from Ninja Gaiden... I found Gerudo Valley online, which is how I found out I could enter these in.
I'm having more fun with this than I have since I got my keyboard.

Well, I've been putting my x86 knowledge to use, mainly to calculate several problems in math this morning. The calculation was P = (d / 10) + 1.

*START ASM PLZ*

/*
Basic formula to get result for P
Formula: P = d / 10 + 1

Variables and their CPU Register equivilants:

d = eax
p = ebx

*/

mov eax, 0Ah ;set d to 10.
idiv eax, 0Ah ;divides d by 10
inc eax ;Adds 1 to d
mov ebx, eax ;moves our result, and we're done!

*END ASM PLZ*

That, and I've been caught again on JJ2 about giving servers illegal exceptions. Yaaaaaaay. Unreal is much better anyways.

I can use X86 assembly too.

I made a program in QBasic some time ago that wrote a string to a little LCD screen that i have (2*16 chars) in dos. The model is an Ampire 162B HD44780 compatible

So then i decided to write it in C and use the command line. For some strange reason i got the idea that the 3.81kb program was too big. So i made a little assembly program out of it. I was quite upset that i couldnt get it smaller than 108 bytes

I was waiting for a class (not one that I'm in) to end so I could go in the room and look for something I'd left there, so I pulled out my iPod, put on Hellsing RAID, and started absentmindedly playing Parachute. At some point I glanced at the score and it was around 350, and I realized that by not caring about the score I had done quite well (I don't think there were any men on the ground at that point). Of course from there I paid attention to the score and things quickly fell apart, but I did wind up with a new high score. Played it twice more after that but didn't break 350.

but that means I win, right?
by unknownfile at 6:32 AM EST on February 27, 2006
Yea. You win the grand prize:

NOTHING

Come again

Anyways, I'm planning yet another xSF format which will most likely die out before I can do anything serious with it. I'm going to restrict it to Windows games first, but I might also expand it to support other operating systems.

Once again, my coding skills suck, so I will need help writing a plugin.

And the first game has been ripped. :-)

Got a job offer, it'd keep me busy during school and more during the summer... freakin' sweet. So maybe when I finish paying off my credit card (< $100 left) I can finally get off this crappy server.
by PokeParadox at 1:00 PM EST on February 27, 2006
funkiness :) looks like a nice enough job!

In case you were wondering, I chose programming ;)

there was once a fish
it was a fish
it liked fish because it was a fish
it was also fish because it was a fish
and I got slapped with it because it was a trout.

Today I proudly present UFBot getting slapped by fishbotclone.

EDIT:

(16:20:55) UNKNOWNFILE: And now, the moment you've been waiting for since I announced it.
(16:21:04) ***fishbotclone slaps UFBot around a bit with a STUPCARP!
(16:21:04) ***UFBot dodged swiftly.
(16:22:42) Mouser_X: Amazing!
(16:22:55) Mouser_X: I'm glad I was here to see that.
(16:23:00) UNKNOWNFILE: what's even more amazing is http://unknown.halleyscometsoftware.com/usfcentral
(16:23:15) Mouser_X: I've been waiting in front of my monitor all day JUST FOR THAT!

I've switched over to a gmail account, and my old email address will no longer work.

Further contact should be sent to certifiedunknownfile@SPAMBOTSSUCKgmail.com

For fun! :P

I have to put the paddles and the scores... but that will be tomorrow. Goodnight!

Guess who's in times square ;)

Anyways, this internet access here is super sux, as I'm limited to 10 minutes before the system tells me to fuck off. Anyways, I'm going to Spamalot tonight with my parents and stuff. I'll be back in #usf tommoropw evening for some bot wars. :)

Wow, was that fun. I'm at the airport waiting for my flight to get in. I should be home around 9:30 or so tonight.
ASCII Pong? by Yoshinkeru at 1:00 PM EST on March 5, 2006
To PokeParadox: Yeah, that sounds fun, but how do you play it? It seems to be a .7z file. What the heck is that?

7-Zip
ASCII Pong PreRelease! by PokeParadox at 1:34 PM EST on March 5, 2006
ASCIIPong Prerelease

It is now a playable state. All the basic pongness is there, apart from AI... so you'll have to erm... play with yourself for now... The source is included.

NOTE: The screen flickers, and you have to maximise the console window. A and Z move the left paddle, K and M move the right paddle.

NOTE2: This is a prerelease version, by that I mean I haven't formally released it on my own site yet. This is because I haven't put together the readmes and made the code as tidy as it ought to be.

...and we're back. I noticed that my internet fucked up while I was away, and as a result, UFBot pwned fishbotclone off the net. Anyways, CHEESE

Ahh, I'm sick again =(

Hopefully I get better by tommorow, otherwise I'm going to miss an important test =(((

Well, my second week of the semester is craptacular. I dont like the fact that i have to get up before midday...or on mondays and thursdays even BEFORE THE SUN GETS UP.

Me no like.

Well i kinda literally slept through my C lectures. It was boring as hell...and the lecturer made 7 mistakes. And i was unimpressed when she told us we were using GCC on a 15 year old unix system though telnet. It has no graphic or network capabilities whatsoever which totally ruins my fun.

Well whilst in the labs the others were making programs that did averages of numbers, i ported my blackjack game and played with that to fill my time. Very boring indeed.

Im not going to even say how boring the Database Management Systems classes are. Good thing i had my MP3 player.

P.S. My ISP is now the crappest thing ever. Now it wont even reconise me on the network.

Whereas I was introduced yesterday to a room full of Sun, Dell, etc. machines of various ages with the expectation that at some point I will know what to do with them to keep things running and update stuff... A little bit overwhelming. But I did get $50 for the day :) And there's a Wizard of Wor machine in there for some reason...
by PokeParadox at 2:51 AM EST on March 7, 2006
Well that's, obviusly in case of boredom... Either that or they are trying t make some sort of experimental server ut of it...

@Josh I kinda know what you mean! 3 of our modules now are in Java... I HATE Java... I don't know ANY Java... I can't DO Java.

Not only that.... but we have a Russian Lecturer on Fridays, that no one can understand. e.g. He pronounces "height" as "hate".

Ooooooooon the upside... We are doing 3D GFX this semmester, and I made a cube spin in oGL last week ^_^ I even defined the surfaces of the cube myself.

Ah, that reminds me, the RU Student Linux Users Group will have a presentation involving OpenGL tonight, I may have forgotten it. The guy who did a presentation on Firefox extensions last week recently won the Extend Firefox contest.
I used GLUT once, in high school, to do some simple stuff (we designed and implemented a 2D visual scripting language, which we called Fauntleroy because the minimal requirement was that it could render a Mickey Mouse head), but never done much in the way of 3D.

Fuck~!

This stupid fever hasn't let up yet! Aaaaaaargh!
That means... NO SCHOOL. Yay, except for the fact that I miss a shitload of homework ;(
by Josh W at 7:50 PM EST on March 7, 2006
I got a new computer given to me just today. Its running really shit-slower than i'd expect, but that might be just XP. Im gunna install linux on it later.

BTW it is a 4x CPU Pentium Pro 200Mhz with 256Mb ram and 20Gb of scsi hdds, and i think it weighs more than i do.

WinXP (according to the Task Manager) only reported that it had 2 cpu's. I wonder if it didnt detect the 2 others and werent using them and that would make it run slowz.

Anyway, Knoppix live on CD found all 4 and so i might install that...although im gunna have to put in a graphics card because the onboard gfx suck big time...it could only do 640x480x256 colors.
