Yoshi's Story - Set errors... by Zerodius at 10:31 PM EDT on May 3, 2007
I have downloaded the newest set and noticed a few errors and things to adjust... so, I'm going to list them:
-The current "Game Over" theme is actually just the second part of the Yoshi Killed theme ; it's played for the scene where a random Yoshi is brought to the castle. A different theme (which was removed from the set) is the true Game Over theme that play when the last Yoshi is brought to the castle.
-The unknown theme is a duplicate of the last boss intro theme.
-Don't know if that's because it's the track name... but "After the Credits" IS the credits theme.
-Although it might seem weird, the "Perfect" and "Incomplete" Melon Run clear fanfares are inverted. Yes, that IS weird but the less impressive one is the "Perfect" fanfare.
That's all the mistakes I noticed for now. Still, good job with the set.
I have my own version which uses times from an earlier version. These tracks are ordered according to the japanese version but uses a mix of European and Japanese titles.
I think that the reason that these tags have been so hard to get together it that there have been too many versions of them bouncing back and forth. We just need to finish them once and for all.
I am going to look at the tags this week and see what I can figure out. Until then, please just hold off on any new tags. (I am not trying to be rude or anything, but let's just reduce confusion as much as possible for now.)
Furthermore, I plan to use Ferramenta's tags as a starting place because they seem to be the most complete as of yet. More adjustments can be made as the situation is figured out.
Thank you Zerodius for pointing out these errors. I thought that I looked at the new tags when they came out, but I must have not gotten around to it. I see all kinds of errors in the current tags. (e.g. Yoshi's Story is a RPG?)
OK, I looked over this terribly confusing set, and I think that have found a solution. So here we go:
- The following tracks from Yoshi_sStory.zip in the prelim directory need to be added to Ferramenta's tags:
44b - Nobody Came s07 - Unknown
- Some tagging needs to be adjusted:
1. There are too many tracks that have the same title such as x9-05a - Yoshi Wins! and x9-06a - Yoshi Wins!. More descriptive titles would be nice.
2. "Alternative version" should only be on tracks that are played when a Super Happy Fruit has been eaten.
3. The Fallen Down tracks are not identified exactly right. Here is what the tracks are:
-- 43a - Falling Down is the sound that is made when Yoshi Yoshi falls into a pit.
-- 44 - Nobody Came.miniusf is the sound that is made when runs out of health.
-- 43b - Falling Down is the sound is made when Yoshi is being taken to the Castle by the toadies.
-- 44 - Nobody Came.mp3 is correct. Although the miniusf needs to be copied from the old set.
3. 41 - Goal!! and 42 - 7 Melons Obtained! are reversed. The current track that is labeled Goal! is the 7 melons theme, and vice-versa.
I think that this covers it. There may be some duplicate 30 Melons themes, but I have had those chimes ringing in my ears so long, I cannot listen to them any longer.
If Ferramenta can make these changes, I think that the tagging for this set will be completed. If there are any issues that I missed, please bring it to our attention.
--EDIT--
Oh, another thing. How should Totaka's Song be handled in the Trial Mode Theme? Should it be timed to include the jingle, or will it just remain "hidden"?
Get the new updated version (without the MP3) here. I didn't find the second part of "Everyone's Dead" in the original set (I downloaded the "complete" version and thought the preliminary rip was deleted). Thanks for the heads up. "s07 - Unknown" is "x9-01 - Page Turning".
1. There are too many tracks that have the same title such as x9-05a - Yoshi Wins! and x9-06a - Yoshi Wins!. More descriptive titles would be nice. "x9-05a - Yoshi Wins!" and "x9-06a - Yoshi Wins!" are just the two separate parts of "29 - Yoshi Wins!" (as are a few other tracks with a letter behind the track number). No explanation needed on those. I have my own tagging conventions and really hate it when there's a "(Part 1)" behind the track title. You can of course add it yourselves.
2. "Alternative version" should only be on tracks that are played when a Super Happy Fruit has been eaten. Why that? There are also other tracks with small changes. These are alternative versions.
3. The Fallen Down tracks are not identified exactly right. Tags taken from the Original Soundtrack. Yet again, I don't really understand what you mean. They seem perfectly okay to me.
3. 41 - Goal!! and 42 - 7 Melons Obtained! are reversed. The current track that is labeled Goal! is the 7 melons theme, and vice-versa. Tracks are the exact same ones found on the OST, not reversed. Also, both themes are used as mini-game goal themes.
I think that this covers it. There may be some duplicate 30 Melons themes, but I have had those chimes ringing in my ears so long, I cannot listen to them any longer. I hated that part of the tagging process. It was so annoying! Yet, no duplicates - disregarding the split tracks of the normal versions (x9-XXa/b).
Oh, another thing. How should Totaka's Song be handled in the Trial Mode Theme? Should it be timed to include the jingle, or will it just remain "hidden"? I thought about that when tagging the set. The original track was 0:53 as I thought it would be better to have it like the OST version, now it's 2:28 and Totaka's Song is included. Sorry for this inconvenience and thanks for the heads up, yet again.
I think that I accidentally out posted you about the unused track. The unused track that I meant to be copied from the old set is unknown 2.miniusf. I think that it is something like 25 sec long.
As for the split tracks such as Yoshi Wins!. I have been thinking about them, and you could possibly just remove them from the set. They are just another track that is broken in pieces. It would reduce potential clutter in the set.
>> Why that? There are also other tracks with small changes. These are alternative versions.
Well, when I initially looked through the set, I thought that the alternate 30 Fruits! and Into the Boss Room tracks were actually the Super Happy versions of those tracks. This was because all of the other Super Happy versions of the songs are labeled as "alternative". It was just a little confusing. Sorry that I did not give a better explanation before.
Furthermore, I would consider the alternate version of 30 Fruits! is more so extended as opposed to alternate. It may just be a matter of preference for me.
>> Tags taken from the Original Soundtrack. Yet again, I don't really understand what you mean. They seem perfectly okay to me.
I am not extremely familiar with the OSTs. However, I do know how it sounds in the game. It appears that the OST may have errors in it. I will try to explain the best that I can, just keep in mind that I am not using the game and not the OST as a reference:
In 43a, that squeak noise that you hear at the beginning of the track is the sound that is played when Yoshi falls into a pit. In 44a, that noise at the beginning of the track is Yoshi spinning around when he runs out of health. The rest of those two tracks are exactly the same.
Therefore, 44a is related to Fallen Down instead of Everyone's Dead. As a matter of fact, if you fall in a pit and don't have any Yoshis left, Track 44a is not even played.
>> Also, both themes are used as mini-game goal themes.
I stand corrected. I just checked, and the tracks are correct as is. What threw me off was the fact that the 7 Melons theme is only played when you get all 7 melons of the Long Jump mini-game. If you get 7 melons on the other games, it just plays the Goal! theme. So, you can just leave those tracks as is.
I hope that this is a help. You are doing a great job. Please let us know if you make any more progress.
Should be complete now. Some minor tags fixed, missing track added.
As for the split tracks such as Yoshi Wins!. I have been thinking about them, and you could possibly just remove them from the set. They are just another track that is broken in pieces. It would reduce potential clutter in the set. Nah... I don't feel comfortable about simply deleting non-identical tracks from a set.
Furthermore, I would consider the alternate version of 30 Fruits! is more so extended as opposed to alternate. It may just be a matter of preference for me. Seems ok to me. If somebody feels to rename it, so be it. :-)
Therefore, 44a is related to Fallen Down instead of Everyone's Dead. As a matter of fact, if you fall in a pit and don't have any Yoshis left, Track 44a is not even played. Now I am a little confused. I'll try to explain... 43a: When Yoshi is falling into a pit, therefor "Falling Down" 43b: Yoshi brought to the castle, when there are still Yoshi's left 44a: When Yoshi runs out of energy 44b: When all Yoshi's are gone, the game over theme, thus "Everyone's Dead" It's simply that track 43's title relates to the way Yoshi dies whereas 44's title describes the game over situation.
That looks great. It seems very complete. I was probably being a little picky about the "Falling Down" situation, but if that is what the OST says then go ahead and do that.
Just make sure that you E-Mail the tags to hcs/UF/Josh/Mouser so they can be uploaded. There is a very small chance of them being put up on the site if they are not E-Mailed directly.
Any chance the file is reuploaded on a better (?) hosting service. Some of us international users get the 'all the downloads queues assigned to your country are used...register etc etc blah blah' message.
I'll drop by in the channel and ask for the tags, but could http://stashbox.org/ or sendspace be used?
Thanks for the updated tags and the missings tracks!!
More like Halley's S(ucky) Crapware... I mean, they *were* an arch-nemesis, after all.
Heh. It'd be funny if someone actually made a spoof site... Though, I have no idea what it would spoof, or how it would look. I guess it'd have flashy, eye-burning animations and colors? HCS's site isn't exactly... Uh... Decorated? Instead of Escape from Pong, they'd have Pong Trap? Instead of Neon64 they have Florescent64? It'd emulate Atari games, but only E.T. actually runs... Everything else crashes, or displays blindingly bright colors, which burn out T.V.s. Instead of USFs... Any ideas? Perhaps I'm just getting carried away... Mouser X out.
