Screwing around with the forum software by unknownfile at 3:09 PM EDT on August 31, 2007
This is moved over from the security thread where discussion was going to go offtopic.

Anyways, I am adding new stuff to the forum software. Currently working additions include:

- SHA-1 password protection
- RSS feed (very primitive)

Stuff I'm working on includes:

- Quote button (currently unusable)
- Preferences for users (not sure whether to put it in the database or in a cookie)

For that rss feed, add this URL to get the most recently updated threads.

Suggest stuff here and I might try coding it.

Oh, yes! I have been wanting a RSS feed. Thanks.
by unknownfile at 5:08 PM EDT on August 31, 2007
RSS feed is updated now, there are some issues in some RSS clients (Thunderbird is one of them), but it's working goodly.

Some stuff:

Old threads that get bumped will not be acknowledged by the RSS feed. The thing was set to get posts from the 10 newest threads, now it gets it from 25.

I also added ?viewsource which does exactly what it says. Now it is no longer needed to keep a php5s file on the server.

The reply buttons currently don't really do anything of use so I'll work on them.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the forum software no longer displays the "Added" message until further notice.

Also, test

Test version 2

Just to let you know, when Sage reads that a new post is made, it marks that the feed has been updated, but it does not show which feeds are new. I am no RSS expert, so I have no idea why this is.
New Stuff by PokeParadox at 9:35 AM EDT on September 1, 2007
I must admit I'm liking the new features. I may even switch to using this forum on one of my sites, due to the addition of RSS.

UF's RSS link doesn't get liked by my aggregator though :S
Feature by PokeParadox at 10:40 AM EDT on September 1, 2007
I'd like a "news mode" facility, so you can have a thread that you can include on a main page...

Might not be so useful to everyone though and I'm not so sure it's along the lines of what yu were expecting in terms of feature requests...
by ugetab at 11:28 AM EDT on September 1, 2007
I think you could just write a PHP include(or just a snippet of code for a page), with the showthread number as the variable. As long as the database details are the same for both the forum and the thread reader, it could be used without any changes to the forum coding itself.

I am adding some features that allow for customization of how pages are viewed, so that means more than 20 posts can be viewed per each page. Stay tuned for updates.

That's all the work I'm doing for today. And I will take pokeparadox's request into mind. Reply buttons still do not do anything.

Further requests?
by marioman at 4:41 PM EDT on September 1, 2007
Only the RSS issue that I mentioned. The feed is highlighted as updated, but not the new posts.
by unknownfile at 10:50 AM EDT on September 4, 2007
Mysql escape slashes in subjects are no longer displayed.

Also, I am working on a function to display a single post - currently it works in showthread, but that will change.

I just need a quick answer from you guys... Do you think a "delete post" function will be useful? Also, RSS subscriptions will soon be for individual threads rather than the entire board soon.
by marioman at 12:20 PM EDT on September 14, 2007
Post deletion? Sure. Why not? It would prevent the occasional double post.
by hcs at 2:08 PM EDT on September 14, 2007
I'll take that as my cue to backup the database...
by unknownfile at 3:33 PM EDT on September 14, 2007
I'm going to set it so the limit will be at 10 minutes so people can kill double posts quickly and easily, then any time after that, deletion is disabled.
by marioman at 4:06 PM EDT on September 14, 2007
That will work. I am not sure if you have gotten around to messing with the RSS feeds yet, but the current one is still a little quirky, FYI.
by anewuser at 5:44 PM EDT on September 15, 2007
Not really. I'd expand edit to more than the last two posts, though.
by unknownfile at 7:35 PM EDT on September 19, 2007
Post deletion is just about implemented.
by unknownfile at 7:37 PM EDT on September 19, 2007
Post deletion is now implemented, although the "last updated" time does not change if a post dies.

Testing it out.

--EDIT--

How do you delete the posts? Will there be a link beside the edit link or what?

by unknownfile at 10:31 PM EDT on September 19, 2007
look for the "delete" link
by marioman at 10:41 PM EDT on September 19, 2007
I'm not seeing it.
by unknownfile at 8:34 AM EDT on September 20, 2007
are you using this forum software? chances are you aren't, but the deletion option only shows up on posts that are not older than 10 minutes.
by marioman at 11:13 AM EDT on September 20, 2007
Aha! That's it. I thought that you had already integrated all of that stuff into the real forum. Sorry.
