.MIB file || Advise on ripping game audio. by Jack Krowell at 2:35 PM EST on December 27, 2019
Yeah so I have a very important question on ripping audio files, most notably ones in .MIB format.
Is there any proper way in ripping audio files in .MIB format, where they won't sound all garbage like when playing them in Foobar2000?
The reason for this topic is because I'm wanting to learn how to rip game audio files myself, without having to depend on others to do it for me (I hope you can understand that).
Is there any way at all to carefully, and perfectly extract .MIB files stored within the .iso/.img of a console game, to where it can properly separated/split/de-interleaved into different channels in audio software such as Foobar2000?
Please, I really need your full support, and your best advise here.
It all depends on a game I guess, I mean your question can't be answered in general.
First of all if you're getting *.MIB files that sound all garbage when playing them in Foobar2000 or another player with VGMstream installed then you're probably not ripping that VG title the right way. The wrong way of doing that is scanning any bigfiles with Cube Media Player or ADPCM Player or even Sony ADPCM Extractor from VGMToolbox; the best solution there would be looking for scripts / programs made to unpack such bigfiles / extract their contents in a proper manner, probably you'll have to dedicate a new topic to the subject if no tools / scripts are readily available. If you start such a thread here you'll supposedly get a piece of code for QuickBMS (a *.BMS file) along with a *.TXTP file that'll allow playback of extracted audio files in VGMstream.
It might take quite some time but in the end you shouldn't get any garbled stuff (you see Cube Media Player, ADPCM Player, etc. attempt dumping lots of headerless data and normally it ends bad, track starts aren't recognized correctly, some tracks are split in a few files while another bunch of tracks can end up in a single file, you get it).
On the other hand if you have a folder with *.MIB files on game disc + each *.MIB file has accompanying *.MIH file then those should be easily playable with VGMstream plugin.
Cube Media Player can be substituted by a properly configured .TXTH file for those .MIB files. The marvels of vgmstream!

Sorry for not replying back in a while, complications of the sort, you know.
the information you 2 provided is really helpful to all on this site, though a bit complicated for me to understand personally, but I might be getting around to it some.
All in all, thank you for your advise, I appreciate it.

You're welcome.
Anyway as I said you'd better post any requests for help regarding ripping / playing headerless Sony ADPCM (or custom sort of it IE without typical headers) here instead of resorting to using Cube Media Player & the likes of it: it might look as they find something usable in scanned files but you wouldn't be able to make it sound right just because those tracks / sounds weren't properly extracted / cut / dumped in the 1st place. It can mean that some games aren't even rippable but that's how it is.
