All that was just my attempt to explain different systems. And I don't have access to VGM tracker, never asked for it because my upload speed sucks. I think this tracker uses only ratio system, so there are no time points at all. Again, if it's a ratio-only system you could seed for days something that nobody else downloads and your ratio will not increase at all, no matter how much time you seed it, unfortunately...

This tracker system is way too strict. What's the point of ripping all this stuff if people can't get at the results? Seems totally self defeating to spend so much time ripping when so few people can get to the files.

Well the ratio can be difficult, but is it that hard to leave a torrent running for 30 days? Most rips average about 300mb, so space shouldn't be an issue.

The rules were put in place because there were a lot of hit and runs. Just look at the history of most torrents. What's the point of ripping if no one helps share after they leech it?

The reality is most of us enjoy the ripping no matter what. It would be nice if people seeded for longer than a day or two. At least of couple of weeks.

But really, only gross offenders are gonna be deleted. If you make any effort at giving back what you've taken, you probably won't get deleted.

I, for one, still stand by my previous assertions that torrenting is simply ineffective in such leech oriented systems.
DDL would be faster and less of a pain for uploaders.

I'm with arbingordon on this. I hate torrents for all the same reasons, plus the fact that many files can lose popularity very quickly (&, therefore, they lose seeds); a good reason to delete torrents that haven't been touched for a month.

I had to download a 300 MB ISO file once; I opened my torrent port in my firewall, forwarded it through my modem & it still took me 72 hours to download the file (the seed-leech ratio dropped from 16:3 to 2:3 during my download). If that same file were uploaded on a host like RapidShare (or even someone's Dropbox account,) downloading would have taken me 15-30 minutes.

The technology behind Bit Torrent is too heavily reliant on people being team players (which makes it volatile); the fact is that people just want to download files & leave (especially if it takes them over 8 hours to download 300 MB through high-speed cable). They tend to either not care about seeding, or they just get fed up from the whole process.

I'm mostly concerned with when the torrents disappear. The thing I dislike about the direct download stuff is those files disappearing, ideally that wouldn't be an issue with our tracker.

The problem with direct downloads disappearing can be solved...

By creating a free account at the file hosting site, and when uploading files, avoiding suggestive names. (And of course always upload stuff to said account)

I have a free account at Mediafire I made around 4 years ago. And when I upload God of War 3 soundtrack, I won't name the file "God_of_War_III_Official_Soundtrack.rar", no, I don't want to be so obvious to MF mods... I name it something short which makes perfect sense to me (and in my native language), and for all this time, I never had a deleted file.

I don't like to be reliant on that kind of thing.
But hey, I don't upload most of these rips, so I don't have any say in where they go.

It just get hard to keep track of my upload time when I'm now using my laptop at friends' houses 'cause my internet stopped working. I think there should be a big new torrent that has not just new files, but many of the old ones as well, as this could cause a higher popularity of that torrent, if the files are wanted again.
If anyone could upload Super Mario Galaxy(2007)(Nintendo)[Wii][PCM][AST].zip (the 847MB one),
Link's Crossbow Training(2007)(Nintendo)[Wii][Nintendo DSP - PCM][AST - BNS].zip, or especially The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess(2006)(Nintendo)[Wii][Nintendo AFC - Nintendo DSP][AST - BNS].zip to a file-hosting site, it would be more appreciated than anything else in the world
