And is Ys 3 actually any smaller with miniPSF2? ZD lists it as 9 MB already...
by unknownfile at 8:21 AM EDT on July 1, 2005
When it is unRARed as PSF2, the set's around 10.4 mb.

The Minipsf2 version weighs around 9.25 mb.

Oh yeah, and why is it that the GSF archive over at ZD hasn't been updated for a while?
by Mouser X at 8:55 AM EDT on July 1, 2005
There's a lot that hasn't been updated in awhile at zophar... I'm really starting to wonder what happened to them. Mouser X out.
by hcs at 1:51 AM EDT on July 2, 2005
I can't really figure out what's up with ZD myself... we all just stopped even trying to keep up with the news a while ago.
I still post USF and, occasionally, PSF updates. If someone could make a list of GSF and PSF updates that need to be made I could see that they are done.

I'd love for someone to rip a QSF of Marvel vs. Capcom. But I'm not deluded enough to expect it to happen any time soon.
by unknownfile at 7:52 AM EDT on July 2, 2005
QSF is only limited to one sound chip, the Q-Sound chip.

That is why I am here today to propose a new format.

MSF (Multiple Sound Format), version 0x80, shall be packed like a QSF, except differently.

You can view my proposal here.

Got Megaman X7 working.

Filesize - 66.7 MB (so I can't post it here, otherwise hcs will need to pay for overages)

Todo's:

-Annoying static removal. To get these tracks to play right, I used spu2spu with an in block of 32.
It did get the tracks playing correctly, but with this annoying static. Turn your volume down to
hear the music.

-Loop. I need to add a looping point into the INI's. right now, the loop is set to null.

-Time. Since I haven't played the game all the way through, I will only time the set.

Since I'm not one to make new formats (or generally speaking, understand them), I'm probably the wrong one to ask. However, that aside, it looks good to me. If you really want it to take off though, make a few rips yourself (or find someone who can do it, or help you do it) and make a player for them (or find someone who can make one). The other option is to propose it at PSF_Rippers yahoo group. Not that that would be ahuge help, but it might.

There's my thoughts. I do like the idea, by the way. Good luck with it. On a side note, there's a fair amount of unreleased QSF rips. All of the Megaman Arcade games have been (that's what would interest me the most), but only 1 can be found. 1 was ripped by Neill, the other by zoopd. I've provided tags for Neill's set, but I've never even seen zoopd's set. Anyone interested? If yes, I'd be happy to provide the files.

Okay, that's it now. Mouser X over and out.

MSF looks reasonable, probably moreso than continuing to change the version byte on PSFs :) If you make some rips for it I'll support 'em.
