- ^ to last page viewers, do not neglect the awesomeness on the previous page.

- 1. You sure 128 kbps MP3 is better than XMA?
2. Isn't XMA basically WMA?
3. Last time I checked, 128 kbps WMA beat MP3 at the same bit rate, no matter the encoder. Specs of the XMA?
It would be ironic if the Xbox 360 version had inferior everything except audio.

- hey guys i got the atrac3plus sdk creation/decoder files, it could somehow help on atrac3 stereo and multichannel decoding, but as it is its from the ps3 sdk and i don't know if its right to post them here as its from the ps3 sdk?
what do you think?
- by bxaimc at 5:55 PM EDT on September 14, 2010
- @SmartOne: Geez give it a rest already. So what? XMA sucks and WMA sucks period.

- Just wondering, but how good would you say the quality of brstm/dsp files is?
- by SmartOne at 6:57 PM EDT on September 14, 2010
- If ADPCM were so great, it would be used for general audio. I don't know if 4-bit, 44100 Hz ADPCM is better than 128 kbps MP3, but ADPCM lacks certain swashy artifacts of psychoacoustic models.
Wouldn't it be funny if the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII had better audio, even if slightly? I'd laugh. Ha. (Preemptive.)

- Can someone answer my question about if its illegal to post files from ps3 sdk? on this site?

- 1. You sure 128 kbps MP3 is better than XMA?
I don't think BX said that.
So far, he's said:
hahahah you think Katamari Forever is any better? it's freaking ATRAC3plus!
The game's pretty big so I'll get to it soon.
CBR, 160 on Trial, 128 on Final. Still sounds great to me compared to the XMA set.
Come on, it's not that bad.
So no, he hasn't said anything of the sort that "128 kbps MP3 is better than XMA"
2. Isn't XMA basically WMA?
Something like it.
3. Last time I checked, 128 kbps WMA beat MP3 at the same bit rate, no matter the encoder. Specs of the XMA?
True, however you're operating under the assumption that the XMA would be 128+kbits and that WMA=XMA quality-wise.
The fact that the XMA would be 128+k is debateable, as neither of us have evidence to its exact bitrate - if you can prove that it's 128+, please do so.
You also seem to think that XMA = WMA qualitywise what makes you think that? Because they've been related to each other? I think you're not factoring in they were both designed for different purposes, XMA being used for music without producing high CPU load, instead, producing consistent load so as to not impede the flow of the game, whereas WMA would be used for more quality driven implementations, at the cost of more CPU.
Just wondering, but how good would you say the quality of brstm/dsp files is?
Usually, it's 4-bit ADPCM, so it's about 1/4th the quality of it's PCM equivalent, though I'm told BRSTM/DSP can contain raw PCM as well, in which case it's as good as CD (barring the lower sampling rate).
I'd compare it to 128-160kbit LAME encoded MP3, personally.

- @SmartOne: It doesn't have better audio, the PS3 set does.
@OrangeC: Yes it is. But anyway, we already have the SDK.
