- Nobuo Uematsu's Synthesizers by G-Boy at 1:32 PM EST on December 16, 2016
- I found this post about synthesizers that were used in SNES game music on reddit.
Some information from the post:
"[Nobuo Uematsu)'s been known to use E-MU and Kurzweil and Roland samples (especially in SNES Final Fantasy iterations. FF7's strings are literally a shortened Kurzweil, and FF8's strings are pretty much an unaltered rip of E-MU's signature strings)"
"Sony, who developed the soundchip for the SNES, provided a collection of samples to developers. I know for a fact that Top Gear's soundtrack was composed entirely with samples provided by Sony, and there may be several others. It's possible these samples didn't come from a rompler, like those you have mentioned, because Sony had (and still has) its own sound division, complete with a collection of instruments and synthesizers (not to be confused with romplers), used for creating sample CDs and system sounds."
"FF7's samples could have come from Sony but I actually did just find the hihats in a korg m1 sample bank!"
"Yeah Uematsu used the sc-88, a lot of samples I'm FF6 and chrono trigger were ripped right from the sc-88 too (timpani, oboe, trumpet, drums, etc)."
"So good news, I found the synth FF7 got a lot of its drum samples from. Turns out it was the Alesis D4, either that or the S4 since I'm assuming it could contain a lot of samples from the D4."
I also found this article that says Nobuo Uematsu used instruments from the Roland SC-55 and SC-88 in the most of his earlier material.

- Could somebody point me in the right direction?

The mid register sound the plays at the beginning and through the rest of this song most prominently, playing D and then an octave up.
I was racking my brain, thinking it might be some rompler harp, but all harp romplers sound very tinny in comparison.
I'm thinking it might be some bell-like sound, but I'm really at a loss.
So not really looking for a definitive where it may come from, but just what sort of sound it could be classified as, to make it easier to find.

- A Few Things I Noticed by naf4947 at 12:30 AM EST on December 27, 2016
- Hey, I'm new to this forum but this is something I've been thinking about for years and noticed a few interesting things.
First, the drum loop at the very beginning of the Greenhouse track from Hotwheels Stunt Track Driver (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-wRkHjFo9o) is exactly the same as a drum loop from Glover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz-qt3BL9u8). I don't know their source but I do know they're the same.
Second, the drum fill at the very beginning of Bubbly Washing Machine from Super Monkey Ball 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlPrvJx3epk) sounds extremely similar to the fill at the beginning of Shake It by Sistar, although that one is pretty processed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9-TIy7WPQI). I don't know the source for these, or even if they are the same fill, but they sound close enough to me that it's possible.
And third, I have a Korg 01W soundfont and one of the patches called Animotion I know I've heard in a game somewhere before, but I can't remember the game. Here is a sample of what it sounds like, the rising scalar pattern is what I really feel like I remember from a game somewhere. (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kfcsep104mozj13/animotion.wav?dl=0)

- I find more jv1080 samples, but this sample was used a lot in timesplitters which was composed by Graeme Norgate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DmpUdpgUqU
The music box in the beginning is a preset call Childlike in the jv1080.
More Samples from the jv1080 it appears goldeneye tend to use the midi vibraphone a lot.

- @baggagelizard
Isn't that the same pipe organ that was used in the Ganon's Tower theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?
