64th Note v1.1 by hcs at 8:21 PM EST on February 10, 2006
1.1 FINAL now up.

If you've been keeping up with the betas you shouldn't notice any changes. If 1.0 wouldn't work for you 1.1 may have fixed that issue. If it still doesn't work let me know.

Mr. Drill Drill Land rip? by CGally81 at 10:48 AM EST on February 12, 2006
I have been looking everywhere for a Mr. Driller Drill Land (Gamecube) soundtrack, but can't find it. Your page says that the game is compatible with in_cube, so I assume it's been ripped and tested?

Is there a place I could download it?
Bomberman Jetters DSP by Dubble at 12:31 PM EST on February 19, 2006
I just spent some time downloading the torrent and playing them back in winamp with the current in_cube plugin and well over half of the tracks seem to be REALLY BAD - as in lots of static and messed up tracks with other tunes popping in betwwwn others.

I'm curious as to whether the set is like this for anybody else or is it just me (main reson I ask was because I was really looking forward to hearing these tunes -__-).

In case those of you who visited Gamingforce Forums weren't informed (I was only informed hours ago), a temporary site for GFF was set up at: http://www.condign.org/forum/

Gauntlet Legends by Samuel at 6:45 AM EST on February 25, 2006
Hello,

I was wondering if anybody was working on ripping the music files from Gauntlet Legends. Gauntlet Legends is my favorite N64 game and I love its soundtrack. Please put it up soon...I can't wait... Btw, if anybody would do this, could you include the sound effects also? That would be awesome...
Thanks to all the hackers that have provided access to the many game soundtracks on this site. Your hard work is very appreciated. :)

ToonPal on USF by ToonPal at 11:53 AM EST on February 28, 2006
PSF is a pretty impressive invention, being able to take just the minimum code and data for a piece of music from a game for any supported system, pack it into a single file, and play through a program/plugin that simply emulates only the necessary console hardware to play back the tune on a reasonably-equipped desktop computer.

USF is no less impressive, although from what I've learned from trying out all the different tunes that have been ripped, it's been a somewhat silly yet educational experience.

Before emulation, I thought that the N64 sound system was comparable to that of the Sony Playstation. Man, was I surprised at how wrong that assumption was! The audio hardware behavior now reminds me of a Sound Blaster 16! I'm saddened to see how the system is forced to make the little 90MHz CPU do the sound mixing work AND run the rest of the game at the same time! I was surprised when I saw so many rips getting played back at mixing rates of 32 kHz and less! Getting as low as 22 from what I've tried out so far! Those poor game developers! Having seen the Konami Goemon game soundtracks press forward with full 44kHz soundtrack leaves me extremely impressed! It sounded like they had to avoid the use of reverb and stuff to make it work without taxing the CPU, but it still sounded great! Alright, enough exclamation points! ...points.

It's pretty sad to see the memory allocated to play back just one song being equal to that of the full size of the ROM from which it was ripped and also the CPU time necessary to emulate an N64 CPU running at near-half-load to play the music right. I have a pretty good idea of why these things must be done, and I bet all you emulator developers also think it's sad that such extremes must be taken to make it work.

I bet some of you also think, "Dear Lord! What ever happened to the simpler times of gaming sound system emulation like that of the SNES SPC!?" :>
USF is for rips by ToonPal at 12:36 PM EST on February 28, 2006
The USF format is handy for ripping music from N64 games and making them fully playable on a computer without having to resort to recording the tunes to WAV or MP3 files or re-writing the software for playing back the game's music on native, non-N64 hardware.

But what about when software DOES exist to play certain music data formats stored in N64 programs on desktop computers? A couple of Dynamix intro sound rips were posted in USF format a number of months ago. But I think it can hardly be considered a "rip". The reason I say this is that the music data in the ROMs are in MOD format, a format highly supported on the PC! Why I should have to emulate the N64 to enjoy a couple of MODs is beyond me. I'm no programmer, but after grabbing my own copy of the Dynamix intro ROM images and beating on them with EDIT.COM, I had truly "ripped" three tunes that I was able to play with a PC MOD music player! They sounded a whole lot better, too, and took a lot less memory to play than the click-filled, memory-hogging N64 player. Heck, I was even able to find these particular tunes up for download from various Internet sites when I "Googled" the song titles I found in the ROM images.

Anyway, I guess it just cracks me up. I can't program myself out of a paper bag, but here I've gone and made three "N64 tunes" available for playback on the PC without having to do any fancy programmer! Ha ha ha! [sigh]

I need a salad.
