- unrelated to that, but I just bought Korg M1 legacy collection, and I think that at least some of the instruments from Earthbound/Mother 2 came from the M1. Trumpet is very, very similar.

- No doubt you hear some similarities as the Korg M1 was used a lot in games. The harp for instance is used a lot in the Donkey Kong Country games.
I personally love that set. Contains a lot of old school synth sounds that I love.

- There are no live instruments in ALBW, someone said in an interview, probably Miyamoto. It didn't fit the game.

- David Wise's mentioned to have used the Korg Wavestation (as well as the Roland U110) for Donkey Kong Country. I'd say the harp might be from the Wavestation in that case - check it out, it's included in the Korg Legacy Collection.
I'm not sure about Earthbound: I really need to listen to more of it. My best bet would be that if nothing else, a Roland would be involved. Did any other contemporary ROMpler have samples of the TR-808?
(Wow, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire used Battery too. I'm surprised, but then again, they've been using Addictive Drums for a while now.)

- Can of Nothing, you might be right about SM3DW's composer using a Roland Fantom. I found some Super Mario Galaxy "galactic instruments" in a sample pack I found of it.
It sounds like Stolen Grand Star (the ambient track that plays when you're in the Gateway Galaxy planet with the Grand Star that's being harvested for its power) seems to use a Low Beat-S sample from there, and I think some of the songs might use a FS Hollow and a few others, but I'm not sure. I'll probably check it out some more.

- Sweet! Which Fantom was it, in particular, and could I have a look in this sample pack for myself?
I'm slightly surprised by this, though. I expected the synths to be from Logic, and the faux-orchestral (such as the ones in To the Observatory Grounds, Course Select, et cetera) from the Fantom - maybe it's actually the other way around?
- by Benjamin at 10:39 AM EST on January 2, 2015
- Not 100% sure which Fantom it was and I'm not even sure if I'm even allowed to share it.
As for the synths, they MIGHT be Logic but I don't have evidence. As for the faux-orchestral I'm confident it is Fantom.
As for Super Mario 3D World they definitely use the Logic factory instruments (example: The percussion in Lava Rock Lair or Conkdor Canyon, and maybe a few other songs, along with the Indonesian Gamelan and Steel Drums you guys mentioned earlier), but I'm pretty sure there's some with the Fantom as well.

- Evidently there doesn't seem to be much restriction on things like that, but I'm okay if you don't want to share it here. Even disclosing the exact name of the pack might be really beneficial, though!
I don't have a Fantom G myself so I'm sadly unable to tell anything from it... I should look for anything from the X being used in 3D World in the meantime, though.

- Was Metroid Prime: Hunters already mentioned? I just noticed that the menu theme uses the same percussion loop as Amazing Life by Jem.

- Should be alright to upload it here if you bought it @Benjamin and there are no worries, plus I would be interested in what you have to offer as well. :P
