- @Ultrafighter reply to the misplaced post on thevgstream thread
The .SB4 are from the xbox360. But it's irrelevant, now I understand my mistake when I said that the file names didn't match : I got mixed up with the folder names. I compared the .WAV files from RSV1's .SB4 files with the files in the RSV2 archive that I had dowloaded from http://pc.joshw.info/t/pc.joshw.info/t/
"And what did you mean when you said "to sort everything out"? Are you going to make a playlist when you finished checking thousands of tracks or you're intending to re-encode all found music to more common formats (MP3, OGG, whatever)?"
>I don't know. I can't make a playlist without extracting the .wav files from the .SB4 files with foobar as the .SB4 files are in fact containers with many files in them and the music being mixed with sound effects.
I don't understand why all you got (in the "Vegas.7z" 584.1MB that's on Mega) when you scanned the files was music and no sound effects or dialogues, as in my .SB4 files they come altogether.. Do I even need to search for the music ? I seems everything I could ever find is in the archive you sent me.
"You see there's no way to split given audio archives from Ubi games if one doesn't want to use DecUbiSnd (supposedly this tool doesn't even find every single track contained in those *.SM#/*.SS# archives) and transcoding them is the only option."
The DecUbiSndGui doesn't succeed to scan any .SB4 files for me. Anyways I've never managed to use this tool properly.
I'm not sure I understand what "transcoding" means here, you mean convert from .SB4 to .wav,.ogg and such ?. And am I not spliting the audio with the foobar2000 extract tool ? I'm not sure I understand "split given audio" either... Sorry for taking so much of your time explaining things.
"Of course it's possible to keep entire sound bank along with a playlist but it's still not very convenient."
Of I understood right that would mean a few dozen musics lost in a playlist of tens of thousands of gunshots and terrorists speaking spanish. Not very convenient indeed.
Today, I tried to open the .SB4 from RSV2 with foobar2000 (equiped with the up to date vgmstream ) and it failed (says the files are either corrupt or an unsupported format). The .SB4 from RSV1 are played but not the ones from RSV2... I don't understand, the files must be different somehow.
Or maybe there is a bug...
Could anyone that has Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on his PC try passing his .SB# files through foobar2000 and tell me what happens ?
Thanks
- by Broula at 12:07 PM EST on January 27, 2019
- alright I tried to open some of the .SB4 containing music I had sorted out the other day, and some of them would not open (corrupted or unsupported says foobar)... so I tried to open the original versions from my backup copy, and they work. I don't get it. Maybe they need to be together in the folder the way they were in the game files.
anyone knows what's causing this ?
It's different but .towav needs several .xma in it's folder in order to succeed converting them to .wav, maybe it's the same kind of thing but I don't think so.
or maybe the files were corrupted by my HDD when I copied them ?
I tried copying the original "Sound" folder to the desktop and to play the files "corrupted or unsupported format" from here and they work. I don't have the knowledge to understand this.
also, I compared the files from Vegas.7z archive and the music files from the .SB4 : the names don't match. For example in Vegas.7z there is a f.SS0_4_L1.ogg that is the same (the music I mean) as 40#3(bank-0002-06-01b80024-40.SS4)
I just noticed the "Keep It Simple, Stupid" in the tab name. Sorry guys.

- SBx format is extremely complex so here are some rules.
- You need to put .SBx together with .SSx and can't rename any .SSx
- Songs in different .SBx can be repeats, that's just how they are made.
- .SBx not working is normal, because we need to add game per game manually. The PS3 of Vegas 2 works because I added it, but I didn't have the X360 or PC versions so those won't work.
- Post many samples (ideally the whole dir) of non-working SBx+SSx games and we'll add them.
- To make SBx more usable you can use the "TXTP maker" I posted in the other thread. It can scan SBx for certain songs (like >2 channels or >1 minute) and create mini files to play only those.
- It that sounds complex just upload all files and I'll fix and reupload the rip. I'll upload the PS3 versions later too.
- Splatoon 1&2 - Corrupted Files by DaveMan1000 at 7:45 PM EST on January 27, 2019
- I've been through almost every single untagged gamerip of both Splatoon games and every single one of them each have the same file that cannot seem to be converted into any format.
The tracks in questions are both labelled:
"STRM_World.bfstm"
This was the error message left by foobar2000:
"Unsupported format or corrupted file"
It can't be unsupported, as every other file in both rips were BFSTM, so that means there's something wrong with them.
Anybody else having this problem? If so, does anyone know how to fix it? As I would like to convert both of these into MP3s so that I may add them to my music library.

- @Broula:
>I don't understand why all you got (in the "Vegas.7z" 584.1MB that's on Mega) when you scanned the files was music and no sound effects or dialogues
Well obviously I left out all the unneeded stuff like ambiences or SFX, that's the way music gamerips are done: lots of unwanted stuff normally get in the way and one has to get rid of them. For example ambiences are usually put in the same banks / folders as actual BGM and a ripper has to sort out given tracks & remove non-musical files.
When I used DecUbiSnd to rip RSV1-2 it didn't find any SFX or VO though, the tracks it found were either music or ambience.
>I can't make a playlist without extracting the .wav files from the .SB4 files with foobar
It's the 2nd option then, <<re-encoding / transcoding all found music to more common formats (MP3, OGG, whatever)>>.
>Do I even need to search for the music ? It seems everything I could ever find is in the archive you sent me
He-he, it's to be expected that different platforms of the same game use more or less the same musical score & more or less the same audio files, only codecs normally differ from platform to platform.
You have to keep this in mind though: 2 different ports / platforms of the same game might have the same amount of tracks, their duration might be exactly the same but sound quality might be much higher on 1 of those platforms, that's why it's useful to check out numerous platforms.
>The DecUbiSndGui doesn't succeed to scan any .SB4 files for me
As I said previously it should have something to do with another codec used on Xbox 360 (neither Vorbis nor Ubi ADPCM).
>I understood right that would mean a few dozen musics lost in a playlist of tens of thousands of gunshots...
I meant something in the vein of this - MAPS.SM1 along with STREAM.SS1 store all the SFX used in the game + all BGMs but if you add only MAPS.SM1.fpl to your playlist you'll get only music.
There's also *.txtp way (that "create mini files" method which was mentioned by Bnnm) but it's probably too complicated so that you should probably stick to the 1st course of action instead (if you want to post your rip here & not lose initial sound quality).
Cheers!

- ok thanks for all the explanations bnnm and Ultrafighter !
I'll upload a Rainbow Six Vegas 2 samples to the vgstream thread then.

>It sounds obvious now that you say it but I wasn't sure. It's strange that you didn't have the voices and sfx. Maybe because you ripped them from another version of the game, I got the iso from my french version, maybe they sorted the files differently when doing the localization. There is a spanish folder with the whole dialogues in spanish but I found tons of spanish speech in the common folder with the music and sfx.

>About that I checked the bitrate of the .ogg files from your Vegas.7z archive and vlc says 128kbps.
Do you remember if you set this bitrate when you ripped them or if DecUbiSnd did it automatically ?
For the 360's .SB4 Foobar detects different bitrates, for example the file I was talking about in my previous post is at 232kbps, but the other files from the same sb4 all have a different bitrate. Maybe you can check with your .SB0 files to compare.
Here is a screenshot with additional info that I don't understand, maybe it's useful. Link

I think I'm doing this > thingy the wrong way haha
