Ok, so I looked at ugetab's Hazy Mazy Cazy variations and worked out how to knock out particular instruments. Here's the USF set. The only problem is that I can't figure out how to turn off the drum tracks, so they're present in all of 'em. The bass melody is 03.miniusf.

(fwiw it works by knocking out the entries for the instruments in the CTL in the ROM)

That's the same with mini2sfs. There's a channel on those that can't be muted.

I'm sure it can be muted, I just need to figure out how... I've not been able to get n64soundtool to run right in Wine to dump the samples, nor was I able to find srip last night.

So in theory could this be implemented into 64th note as a channel muter function?

This is all completely hypothetical, I wouldn't expect it to happen.

(I would assume each game would have different values which means it would have to be done in a way like the frequencies file works.)

@Koopa: There is a channel that can't be muted in 2SFs? I have never come across that.

I guess it could be done, but then again anything could be done. The USF format is patch-oriented, so it is well suited to making changes like this.

Having a channel muter would be quite neat.

hcs: I could upload the samples if you need them.

Any word on the channel muter? Would be really useful in creating remixes.

I'll either assume that since there's no posts about it, there isn't any, or there is, but they just haven't posted about it.

@hcs i have a little trick to mute the drum channel in hazymazecave

convert 2 files from the hazymazecave set [eg 00 and 03] to wav and load these two files in any audio editing software

make sure the 2 files are played back at the same time, then invert the waves of just 1 track and the drums will magically disappear

I knew about that.

How do you think I did these? Exactly the same way:
