Well, since there isn't a thread for that purpose yet, I just wanted to point out that the requests page was recently cleaned up, and games that have been ripped have been removed. In other words, if your request was removed, it's because the request in question is already ripped. This does not mean it's tagged, or anything, just that it's ripped. If you want tags for ripped games, then tag it yourself or find someone else who can. Anyway, whether or not this is important to anyone (or even if the requests page is still used), I just thought it should be pointed out. Hope that helps some people a little bit... I request therapy for the person who requested, and I quote: "I AM A MORON!! BAN ME!!!"
by Mouser X at 3:56 PM EDT on August 11, 2006
Actually, that guy has been requesting the same thing, again and again and again. It gets deleted, and they simply request it back. The reason it keeps getting deleted is because THE REQUEST WAS FILLED! The game is ripped, and tagged, multiple times. It's not listed as complete, because the ripper hasn't given permission to release it yet. As such, to tell the world what an idiot this guy is, I changed his request to more accurately reflect what he really meant. But you're right, this guy needs therapy. Or, to learn how to download stuff off the internet... Probably both. Mouser X over and out.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I've always wondered... in the future, will there be a way to force certain USF sets to play at a higher bitrate (for a more crisp sound)? It seems that the Rare sets in particular default to around 22 kHz, but I wouldn't mind hearing them at 32 kHz or higher.

I'm not begging for it, I've just been curious about that for a while.

This isn't exactly the right thread to be asking in, but since I have no idea where the thread to ask it in is, (you'd have to know what you're looking for, most likely, as you read the topics of old threads) I'll let it slide.

The answer is no. Straight up and simple. However, there's a few reasons for this (they were talked about in the thread I refered to in the above paragraph, but good luck finding it). The biggest one, is that HCS wrote 64th Note to play N64 song files as close to their original environment as possible. He was, and is, shooting for accuracy in emulating the N64 audio. To upsample it wouldn't be true to the intentions he had in mind.

There's a few other reasons as well, though. Another one, is that the N64 uses some very weird sampling rates, occasionaly (this is why some games don't play properly on some systems, depending on the settings 64th Note uses[that's what "round frequency" is for]). For example, some games actually use 21kHz, and I've seen worse (though I can't remember what, offhand). The reason for these odd samplerates, is because it required using the N64 CPU to render the audio. Most games prefered that the power be put toward graphics, rather than audio. As such, they decreased the samplerate on the audio, to free up more CPU for their game. And, this effects 64th Note, because it basically makes it very very difficult, if not virtually impossible, to support upsampling from the emulation core up. Instead, you'd have to upsample it, after it's been rendered.

And this leads to another good reason that upsampling isn't supported in 64ht Note. Many Winamp plugins already exist that can up sample the audio for you. There's even programs, separate from Winamp, that can do it in real-time as well. Basically, if you really want it to be upsampled, download a Winamp DSP plugin that can upsample it for you. I know there's some really good ones out there, because this very subject has been discussed before, and those plugins were brought up. However, since I pretty much never use Winamp DSP plugins, I have no idea which ones you should try out, or look for. Though, I seem to recall ASIO being one that was mentioned.

Again, I'm not sure which plugins do what, or what you'd look for, so if ASIO isn't it, sorry. Hopefully though, this has been informative, and someone useful to you. Good luck on finding an upsampling plugin for Winamp. Mouser X over and out.

It is quite possible to hack games to run at a different sample rate, but it is usually not possible to do the same with USFs. USFs are usually ripped after the audio driver has been set up.

I see. Thanks for the input, Mouser X and hcs.

As for dino's request for the Starcraft USF rip, if he has the original PC version, it is very easy to rip the WAV music files from the game's installer EXE(which is also a self-extracting MPQ archive, and the game's main data file), with a MPQ viewer. I've ripped the PC version of Starcraft/Broodwar with this method, and all the music is in very high quality OGG tracks.

And, the N64 version has shorter music tracks than the PC version (mainly to reduce cartridge space)

I hope this info is useful.

Wow, some idiot really wants to be banned! They added their vote to the "I AM A MORON!! BAN ME!!!" entry... Personally, I hope their request is filled soon (I hope even more that they read this. Seriously, stop it. It's not funny. I lied, it actually is, after I thought about it. Still though, STOP IT). :D Mouser X out.

and if Crusin Exotica gets ripped to finish off the Crusin games, i'll tag and time it like I said.
