I didn't misinterpret your post, you misinterpreted Alex. You said the opposite.

What you do with VSTs is that you place your desirable note in the piano roll in your DAW and then select that region and export/bounce that as a WAV. In the DAW. Not inside the VST. And now you have a sample.

I don't see how. Opposite of what?

What I meant was that since the music files in the game are not MIDI, but rather, MP3-like streamed files (AAC probably?), the instruments like drums have to be from a VST - because the composer uses VST and not real instruments. Also because the same drum kit is used in other tracks in the game, I would think that the same VST is being used for it. So sorry if the wording is strange, lol

No, the wording isn't strange. The logic is. What I'm saying is, it doesn't have to be VST just because it isn't in a sequenced format. And sequenced doesn't rule out VST either. If you like a sound you sample it.

What I'm saying is, it could be from a VST (or AU or AAX depending on what DAW the composer used) but it could also be a sample downloaded from the internet, it could be a sample CD, it could be recorded from a synth/drum machine and so on.

I'm just saying.

When I say VST, I'm not ruling out any other kind of sampling type there is. I'm just saying it has to be from something because it's used multiple times. dannyB seems to like drum VST so that's why I said that.

If it's Danny, why not just ask him on twitter or facebook? I'm sure he will answer.

Does anyone know anything about the instruments used for The Getaway's music?

I finally decided to join after a year of searching through the forums! Not sure if anyone found these yet but some K.K. songs use samples from the Casio Rapman:

23 ELEC ORGAN - Heard in K.K. Ragtime and K.K. Jazz

24 WAW VOICE - used as the lead in K.K. Reggae

@jimbo1gaz
I'm most likely guessing that organ comes from a Roland product, but I can't say for sure yet.

REPOST WITH UPDATE: <--- Just in case anyone else is interested in helping me. Here, again, are links to videos showcasing music from Mega Man X4, and trust me; I have almost ALL of the tracks from the game listed here, so I hope this helps the person this catches the attention of.

I actually found some of the samples used in this piece, the most of the percussion appears to come from Roland products. In particular, the snare comes from the L-CDX-01 sample library for the Roland S760.

The second dropbox link from the bottom has an attempted recreation of the drum track, but the jingle bell sound is off.

All other sounds come from the Roland Super JV/XP products. The bass is part of the internal sound library, labled as "PR-B: 009 Pick Bass".

The rest of the sounds were found in the SR-JV80-04 library, and the names of the audio files contain the names of the patches used.

Just ignore the whole "REQUIEM" thing. That was a title I came up with for the song.

Since the "Ending Credits" video shows Zero's last cutscene (which contains a remixed sample of his Intro Stage theme), I thought I'd do the same for X, for the sake of completeness.

*One thing I forgot to mention in my orignal post was that the tunes highlighted by the asterisk(*) serve as the basis for the victory themes for their respective characters.
