(REPOST) The Sound Of Dark-Colored Coffee by G-Boy at 8:27 AM EDT on September 27, 2016
Does anyone know where the saxophone from Godot's theme in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations came from? It sounds like Roland Sound Canvas to me.

No one has been on this forum in a while.

@PokeMusic
I agree... it's quiet, too quiet.

Many people already know this, but the Steel Drums from all versions of the Roland Sound Canvas was used in Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars.
SMW and Graffiti Kingdom request by Xane123 at 11:57 PM EDT on October 7, 2016
@G-Boy And since apparently it's the same samples as Super Mario World, this applies:

I told people on YouTube Roland Sound Canvas' "crappy" (at the time, only hearing the bad-sounding gm.dls ones) samples were used in that game, but they said it was released "after the game"...

Also, I have a thread here about Graffiti Kingdom, wanting its samples as it's sequenced, but no one's checking it out; I'm curious where the instruments came from, if anyone knows.

Mitsuda used Peter Siedlaczek's Advanced Orchestra back in the day a lot (Xenogears, Xenosaga). I'd imagine Graffiti Kingdom has a few instruments at the very least in there. Pretty sure I heard a SC-88 flute in the opening track. The piano in a few songs is from a VST called General Piano (no idea where it originally comes from).

Next time please leave some YouTube links for the sake of easy clicking.

As Tenpei Sato is noted for using the Sound Canvas in most of his productions, I was wondering if there were any other modules he used?

In this song, at the beginning, the hit sound used sounds sort of similar to the Fantom X's "In da Cave" patch, here:

http://www.synthmania.com/Roland%20Fantom%20XR/Audio/Patch/PR-C/113%20In%20da%20Cave.mp3

Are they the same patch? If not, anyone know what else it might be? Also, I know that same sound is on the Hip Hop expansion board for the JV-2080, but does it originate from anywhere else?
Confusing Canvas by G-Boy at 4:38 AM EDT on October 8, 2016
@Xane123
Was it released after the game? Hmm... the Roland SC-55 was released in 1991, and Super Mario World was released in 1990. Maybe Roland gave Koji Kondo permission to use the Sound Canvas before it was released to the public. I don't know, but one thing's for sure: it's the same sample.

Kondo is not a famous person outside of the video game music scene, there is no way that Roland knew about him. However, that sample may have its origin in a previous Roland synth.

@Ghignarda
I'm not fully familiar with the regular instruments in that song, but the percussion in that song come from a SC-88. It does seem like that sound you linked is in that song. Scanned a few other songs from that game and I did hear quite a bit of SC-88 once again. Sato loves his sound modules so its safe to say he probably used a mix of something for that song. I know Disgaea is almost entirely (if not already) SC-88 instrumentation.
