@G-Boy: Deleting all related registry keys/values didn't trick it?

@peronmls Yeah me as well. Doesn't seem like many people collect them / post their findings anymore. I've slowed down considerably myself, however.

Yeah. I mean It's not hard to find sampling CDs if you know what I mean. Synthesizers on the other hand are not easy to obtain and only a select few people can contribute to that stuff. Not even sure if it's worth having another thread or not.

I *think* the ocarina sound in OOT is from E-mu ... here's my attempt at "Epona's Song" using Creative Lab's 8MBGSFX E-mu rev b soundfont ... it's very close, though the sound in-game is more present in the higher frequencies ... this suggests either that samples were pre-equalized so as to compensate for the lower sample-rate and the frequency response of tv speakers upon playback, or (most likely) that the Creative soundfont is of a lower sample-rate and high frequency content is therefore attenuated ... anyway have a listen and see what you think

The original version sounds different, IMO.

no, it's definitely E-mu. patch 045 Ocarina Solo from Proteus/3 WORLD sound module to be exact. the same sample must've found its way into the Creative Labs soundfont (E-mu Systems was acquired by Creative in 1993)

here's "Sun's Song" this time with reverb

That sounds much better! I'm sure it's the same sample.

yes I think it is definitely the one ... am so happy to have found it for my own music. though I don't mean to suggest that Kondo used a soundfont of course; he obviously would've got the sound from a Proteus 3.

I wonder if anybody knows the origin of this sound from the Resident Evil/Biohazard soundtrack ... first heard at 0:02 ... it almost sounds like a processed orchestra hit?
