I found the real source of the clarinet in the Athletic theme.

That means some other samples from it could come from it as well.
Do you have a Proteus/2 and Proteus/3 or are you looking at SynthMania? I'll look at the Synthmania demos to see if any more sounds come from it.

I found the samples because epheralmu uploaded an official soundfont of the Proteus/1, 2 and 3 on the Discord server.

Checking if the Harmon Mute sample was used in NSMB was actually one of the first things I did after I downloaded the soundfonts, but it's not the same sample.

That sample was already confirmed to come from Akai CD-ROM Sound Library Volume 1 XL, which means that it's not it.

Ah, nice to see some more confirmations of Proteus samples in Chrono Trigger. I had noticed a while back that it used some percussion from the Proteus 3 for the 65,000,000 B.C. world map.
