JoshW: It occured to me later, that the easiest way to do this rename, is to have a method of getting a directory listing (listing *only* file names) as a text file, and then using that to create a BAT file (or similar scripting for Linux, since that's most likely the OS you use, IIRC) to do the renaming "for" me. This would allow me to do the renames from my PC, rather than having to be logged in to do them. It would also be faster for me, as I wouldn't have to individually select each file to rename it.

So, my questions are, "How do I use DAT files?" and, "How can I get a directory listing (specifically of file names), preferably in TXT format, of the files on the server?" With those questions answered, I should be able to, at the very least, provide a BAT file pretty quickly. That way, you could run the script yourself. I wouldn't even need an account. And with it being a renaming script, since Knurek has no intention of continuing the inclusion of the format data, it should be easy to maintain the renaming script, which could then maintain the filenames.

In fact, with that thought in mind, it seems plausible that a program or script could be constructed to use the DAT files to automatically do the renames. Though, doing *that* is beyond my capability. So, as already mentioned, I'm willing to create BAT files (or Linux scripts, if someone told me the commands I need to use for Linux) which you could then run.

Anyway, hopefully a file name listing is easy to generate (it is in DOS, but the only method I've ever used includes file information, dates, attributes, etc., which is a pain to clear out when all you want is file names). I think the format data is extremely useful, and look forward to being able to aid in its inclusion. Mouser X over and out.

I will save you some work and tell you that DAT will only give you file extension. Which doesn't tell you much, really - look at .WAV. It can either be raw PCM, various forms of ADPCM, ATRAC3 or ATRAC3+, Ogg Vorbis and just about any other format out there.

Oh, and some games like to mix and match formats, so a game can have 20 MSFs with PS ADPCM, one or two with PCM and rest with ATRAC3.

The only proper way to have the complete information is to go through the complete set, one track at a time, and note which formats are used.

Which should give you a better understanding as to why I don't really want to do any of this. Way too much work for too small of a return IMO.

Here you go :)

Shouldn't the PCM files be included in the Lunar: Eternal Blue rip on smd.joshw, since they are playable in foobar?

Likewise, if vgstream cannot yet play them (although I think it can), shouldn't that capability be added by now? Or am I missing something on both fronts?
by Knurek at 3:27 AM EDT on March 19, 2013
Can you share the PCM files? I can't upload something I don't have. :)

Did you want the ones that have speech along with the music or only the files with only music? For that matter, what about ambience, like wind blowing, etc.? I'm guessing we're going strictly music, but I don't want to remove anything if we're going for completeness.

No ambience, please. Music with speech depends (if it's a track that repeated elsewhere without speech skip, if not, leave it be). Thanks.

That should be everything, but someone who knows the game better want might to check behind me and make sure I didn't leave out something important.

So, I got a PM on FFShrine, which said this:

"Saw that you had a thread on hcs asking "If it was possible to rip 3DS music" from a while back... It's been two years, do you know if it's possible yet because, I can't find anything new on the topic? I really just want to rip LM2: Dark Moon Dark Moon, you know?"

So, the short question is, what's the current progress on 3DS music? Has there been any almost-successful rips of a single piece of music from a game, or anything at all?

Would we be able to have an archive for Android and iOS game rips? I've extracted music from these two games that are on both platforms, but specifically extracted from the Android versions.
