Extracting A DLS and MIDI from a usf by Dozzyrok at 7:26 PM EDT on July 29, 2013
I have used VGMTrans to extract midis and dls files from ps1 games to get split channels... Is there any way I can get the DLS and MIDI from a usf or miniusf to split channels from a n64 game?

As I recall, as long as the game in question uses the Smashy driver, you can drop the ROM itself into VGMTrans and get your MIDI and DLS that way. N64 support might have expanded to other drivers by now, but I haven't downloaded VGMT in years to tell you reliably.

OK, so I've been perfectly aware of how to rip MIDIs with VGMTrans, but how do you rip the DLS?

Right click "Instrument Set" and convert to DLS. This only works for some PSF/PSF2 sets though. I thought the newer VGMtrans dropped support for N64/USF sets?

I saw no option for DLS on the vgmtrans that opened the n64 game. I know they dropped support for n64... but did they drop support before they changed the ui? because I have a couple versions: one that rips midis from n64 games but not DLS, and another that rips Midi and Dls from PS1 and PS2...

There are a lot of versions of vgmtrans apparently...can't really find the other archives online. I did not know vgmtrans could rip dls from ps1 and ps2 games, thats amazing! Because their discs right? Not cartridges :P lol does that mean this might work for "some" xbox or wii games?

Edit: I don't know if anyone saw this yet but the developer or someone is currently working on updating vgmtrans, the blog is here: http://d.hatena.ne.jp/loveemu/20130717/VGMTrans_hosted_on_GitHub just thought I'd point that out.

It split Cid's Test Course from Choboco Racing almost perfectly ... But if anyone can find me a version that supports n64 games that would be great ;)

@dj4uk6cjm DLS rips from PSF1/2 games only work on certain games. For example, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, but not Parasite Eve.

and no it wouldn't work with the Xbox or Wii. The Xbox is almost all streamed audio (can it even use sequenced audio?) and while the Wii does have sequenced audio, you have to use other methods to get the DLS/MIDI from it.

"Capcom's QSound sequence and instrument formats used in CPS1/CPS2 arcade games
-Squaresoft's PS1 format used in certain PS1 games like Final Fantasy Tactics (smds/dwds)
-Nintendo's Gameboy Advance sequence format
-Rare's SNES sequence format (.spc)"

it would be really cool to see more sound driver support added to it. also, it would seem the newest version of VGMtrans (not published yet) now has support for SF2 exporting.

dissident: Oh I guess that answers my question then lol but yeah I do hope vgmtrans supports more sound formats.

And Dozzy you can get the N64 version of vgmtrans here http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=28236, check out herms link.

I've read the N64 version can only read Rare games, but I'll have to see for myself. thanks for the link.
