Rune Factory 4 uses sequenced music (only the old stuff from Frontier is streamed, it seems) NSMB2 is also streamed.

I can't believe Island Tour is MIDI. After MP8 and 9 you would think they'd go streamed with this, unless it's the MPDS team that just can't let go of the past.

Great work, soneek. However, it's a shame we can't get the music sounding like in-game though, with DSP effects like reverb.

I hear it's because of the Download Play limitations that it's sequenced MIDI.

@starerik
Did you ever consider the idea of adding the reverb manually? It's not hard at all.
by dj4uk6cjm at 3:12 AM EST on November 7, 2014
@The12thGripper I've learned most sounds aren't too good if you add any kind of reverb to them other than the artificial reverb that comes from the engine, which will always be best.
by starerik at 4:31 AM EST on November 7, 2014
Don't ever do that, The12thGripper. dj4uk6cjm knows what's up. You do know that the engine reverb is very different from adding separately in some software? Different algorithms. Also, it's difficult to get it just right even if using the same type of reverb, you'd have to use different amounts and different settings on each channel just like how you compose a stream. But in 3DS's case, I don't know how it's done. Maybe it's one reverb coat over all channels, instead of different for each channel. But I do believe it's the latter if I understood an Iwata Asks article right.

@dj4uk6cjm NSMB2 is also streamed. You should check out 3sf.joshw.info if you ever want to know if something is streamed or not.

What would be better is if we had a list of Wii U and 3ds games that use sequences or are confirmed sequenced music, a thread for this would suffice and help a lot of people. We could even add links to those converted into midi or soundfonts for them, just an idea.
by starerik at 5:26 AM EST on November 7, 2014
@dj4uk6cjm About the soundfonts for ALBW and NSMB2, get a Mac with Logic Pro, and you'll most likely find a big amount of the sounds used in any modern Nintendo game soundtrack.

@soneek

Oh. Couldn't sworn the AAC files sounded better than the rips I made from the brstms I downloaded.

Maybe it's just winamp.

And there doesn't seem to be a windows version of the vgmstream plugin for Audacious.
