Proper Battletoads arcade rip? by dogman91x at 11:10 AM EST on February 24, 2015
Is there a good rip of this soundtrack out there? All I can find are some pretty low quality MP3 files. The music is by Dave Wise and sounds *just* as good as his work on the Donkey Kong Country series IMO; released the same year.

This arcade version is also known by some as "Super Battletoads"

The Battletoads arcade had a pretty crappy DSP (although this shouldn't have been the case in 1994).

I've observed the ROM files, and the music is sequenced (probably the same hex format as David Wise used in DKC). The sounds in turn are 8-bit PCM.

Perhaps someone knows how to pick out the sequences and convert them to MIDI.

That's a shame to hear about the DSP.

By the way, what's the sample rate of the PCM files? I'm logging WAV files for the soundtrack manually through MAME and I'm wondering if using the exact sample rate would be more accurate to the source, rather than using the mame.ini sound options' default (48khz).
It might just be me but it sounds like it's adding treble to the sound that might not have been there.

You can use Bridge M1 to play it straight from the ROM instead of logging it. You can also record while you're listening, but it has to be in real time, unfortunately.

If you want to keep logging though, you could submit it to vgmrips. Your question about sampling rate would probably be best answered at their forum as well.

@dogman91x I'd say the sampling rate is 22 khz.

Wikipedia says it uses BSMT2000, which it claims outputs at 24khz.

Bumping this thread out of desparation.

Just found out about this glorious soundtrack a few days ago, and although BridgeM1 works fine, I'd love to see a proper rip (as BridgeM1 doesn't play the credits or level completed music).
