Download the free version "Synthfont 1.713" from here it's old but I use it and it still works great, I've never upgraded to the 2nd newer version called Synthfont2 which is payed now.

God dammit. They made it sound like you needed a license for both versions (i.e version 1 and 2).

Also, does anyone know why the MIDIs converted from SPCs in a recent version of VGMTrans, has most of the instruments playing OK, however, has the following annoying things:

ALL the drums in Super Mario RPG are replaced with a high pitched instrument.

Some of the instruments in the DKC series are replaced by whatever. For example, the percussion of Bayou Boogie is replaced by the sound of a Kremling being defeated, or the sound of a Klubba screeching.

And most importantly.... there is absolutely NO pitch bending.

Also if you get a nag screen like this about the registration in the older version just click on "I will continue to use the program and evaluate it for free" and there, problem solved! Haha. :D

OK, so I have a question. I know what to do. But it's a matter of how. I'm using the Bayou Boogie MIDI with the Bayou Boogie soundfont. All I need to do is replace a certain program number to another. However, how do you do that? Specifically how do you "replace all events that change the program to #11 to whatever"? And more importantly, how do you know what instrument you're replacing it with, without actually being able to hear it?

EDIT: Never mind.... the lack of pitch bend just makes it worthless. I can't believe they don't even have pitch bending. Yoshi's Story has all the events. Infact, in the tune officially called Come Again Yoshi (known as Yoshi Reggae in the MIDI rip), I used to think that "Wah" effect (it's basically a fluctuating volume pattern) was an actual instrument, but it's simply the volume event going up and down rapidly.

I don't know about the SMRPG midis as I haven't explored those yet but for the DKC midis you'd just have to replace a track from the VGMTrans version with one from a spc2midi version in a DAW like Mixcraft for example and you can remove all the unwanted midi controller parameters from the spc2midi one or copy all the effects from one midi track or whole midi to another midi and paste them in the tracks. Of course there will have to be some tempo changes and movements of the notes because both VGMTrans and spc2midi rip at different speeds but it can be done with time.


Heres a partially fixed midi of the Rockface Rumble theme from DKC3. The midi was ripped with VGMTrans but the midi controller parameters were copied and pasted in track by track from spc2midi thanks to Mixcraft, as you can tell it still needs some work with the note and effect position but this was just a basic demonstration to show my friend punk that it was possible to copy the pitch and everything else from a midi rip into another.


I'm sorry, I wish I could help more but I don't have much experience with snes soundfonts, at least using them by a automatic program basis :P the last time I did something related to that was manually with the spc samples of aquatic ambience from DKC and used the C700 VST in Mixcraft to test it with a midi rip of the same song. The results were less than plausible though...and for Yoshi's Story you're talking about the midi rip from SEQ64 right? Yeah that program is shit to be quite honest. What I noticed is that for example the midi rip of Yoshi On The Beach there are missing notes in the first main steel drums track that are actually in the Super Happy version of the same midi with awful pitch effects, yikes!

The missing notes in the Steel Drums part, aren't missing. They're just played about 3-4 octaves lower.

Your right, it was an octave down, hm that is strange because the last time I loaded it up the song didn't play the extra notes that were an octave down. Thanks for checking though, let me know if you still need help with the pitch bending in Bayou Boogie. My method could work for it.

I can't listen to the Rockface Rumble MIDI. It just plays nothing but piano instruments. I can't even recognize what it's playing. It's definitely not Rockface Rumble.

I've played all samples in the soundfont. The "Unsure" is actually a harpsichord. Has the soundfont creator never heard a harpsichord before? Bro, the harpsichord might be ancient, but it still has some popularity. I mean, have you played Undertale? Have you heard the track "Undyne"? That was in 2015 and it used a harpsichord.
