- I am one of the contributors to the Pokemon Ruby disassembly project, and I'm currently working on dumping the songs to MIDI format, so I modified GBA Mus Riper (source here) to export the MIDIs in a compatible format for the mid2agb tool. All of the MIDI files produced by GBA Mus Riper seem to play just fine in older versions of Windows Media Player like WMP10 on Windows XP, but are completely silent in newer versions such as WMP12 on Windows 10 and also on Winamp. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening, and it's pretty important that I resolve this soon.

- Yeah, I wondered why it was called "riper". I thought it was some typo, but that's kind of cute.
Surely, someone has tried to rip GBA Pokemon MIDIs and play them on Windows 10 and ran into this problem. I'm not an expert on MIDI, but I just need to know what's causing them to be silent so I can fix this.

- Use Foobar2000 and the midi player component. Both from the same site. Its free and works pretty well if I say so myself.

- Yeah, I know that most MIDI programs can play them, but I'm specifically trying to get them working with Windows Media Player 12.

- Windows Media Player has never supported custom SoundFont MIDI playback.

- You need a custom MIDI software synthesizer that interacts with the Windows Mixer/Kernel Mixer, for example CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth.

- That does not support Windows Media Player, or any player for that matter, automatically uploading SoundFonts to the driver.
You'll need something like in_midi or foo_midi, or possibly FalcoSoft MIDI Player.
