Is it possible to make a Sonic CD soundfont? by 20cayers at 1:37 AM EDT on July 31, 2017
I'm not requesting anything here. Just wanted to know if all of the instruments and sounds are rippable, because I haven't seen one soundfont on it, except for a Wacky Workshop Past mini-soundfont.
You probably could extract the past theme instruments since those are SMPS just like the other MD Sonic games, but the present and future themes are all streamed, so no dice there.
I mean any sequenced format that we have tools for are fine. So for example, most GBA games, almost all NDS games, a few assorted GC and Wii games. SNES games sort of work too, but it's pretty shaky at the moment. A lot of N64 games also work. Generally, you should find out if a game is sequenced or streamed first. Pretty much any console game made before the GC will be sequenced, so those will work. GB/GBC don't have "soundfonts" since they literally just produce noise straight from the hardware (squares, waves, white noise, etc), but you can probably find some people who have sampled some presets that certain games used. As stated before, you'll have a good chance of your GBA and NDS games working. 3DS uses a lot of streams, but occasionally some games use sequences, and if that's the case it depends on what format it is. For some formats we can at least extract the raw instrument data, but I don't know if we have anything that lets us extract the proper loop points and ADSR envelope info, so you'd have to make a soundfont out of those by scratch.
